Eddie Jones Resigns

So Eddie Jones is gone, thrown under the bus by the person who, without doing any homework, made a 'Captain's Pick' to choose Jones in the first place.

That person is McLennan, the Chairman of Rugby Australia, who should be the first to go.

I, almost alone, because it was unfashionable, warned that this would happen.

The last time Jones was sacked from Australia, he had lost seven in a row.

He was sacked from England for losing seven in a row.

And now his teams, with 11 assistant coaches, have won two matches under this 'new' regime - Portugal and Georgia.

McLennan is the architect of all of this.

Coaching Australia is a prestigious job. It was never advertised.

McLennan has no knowledge of the game and no previous involvement in the game.

Jones going, offers a limited solution while the administration is headed by the person who sacked the previous coach and signed on Jones under rhetorical fanfare that we were going to win everything and poach rugby league players.

Now the excuse is there wasn't enough time to prepare the team for the Rugby World Cup, in spite of expensive camps along the way.

However, England had the same amount of time.

They had to find a coach after Jones was sacked.

Yet after the disarray under Jones of seven consecutive losses, England went within a freak kick by the South African Pollard, almost on full-time, from entering the World Cup Final.

McLennan has to go.

Then, the job of coaching Australia should be advertised and a panel with coaching knowledge should be appointed to review the applicants.

What the rugby family don't know is that the Board of Rugby Australia is almost devoid of rugby knowledge.

McLennan is doing as he likes. We have now seen what that has produced.

We don't have a 'player' problem, we have a massive administrative mess.

Jones is out the door. He should be followed by McLennan and the bulk of the Board.

They own this problem. They signed off on the problem.

Jones is merely the symptom. The rugby disease is right at the top.
