After relentless campaigning, the new Pectus pathway on the NHS is available if you need it.

Here is the current pathway for NHS England patients seeking advice and treatment about pectus deformities.

In this document, you’ll find the current treatments available on NHS England as well as the current eligibility criteria for accessing surgical care.

Presently, patients who meet the criteria will be considered for surgical treatment at one of three centres:
St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London
James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough
Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool

We would advise that when visiting your GP about your/the patient’s pectus deformity, you print off a copy of the Interim Clinical Commissioning Urgent Policy Statement, as evidence of recent changes to policy regarding pectus patients.

We were thrilled to see policy change last year, after NHS England removed funding for pectus surgery in 2019. This document is a great starting point but still leaves so many unable to access the treatment they want and need. As a charity, we are committed to expanding the range of treatments available and making high-quality care accessible to all patients.

Specialist NHS surgery to correct a condition causing the front of the chest to be sunken has returned to Teesside – with the first patient to receive it claiming it will “change her life”.

The return of the operation at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for people suffering from pectus excavatum (funnel chest) makes the trust one of only two in the country to perform the procedure.

Surgery to treat the condition, caused when the ribs and breastbone grow inwards and form a dent in the chest, stopped being carried out as a funded procedure by NHS England four years ago.

Since then, cardiothoracic surgeon Joel Dunning has worked hard to bring it back – with the first one being performed at The James Cook University Hospital this month.

The trust is now proud to be seen as the NHS pectus centre for the north with patients from all over the country set to have their operations performed at the Middlesbrough hospital.

Yes, I braved the hottest day of the year so I could finally pick up some goodies from

I’d have bought more if I wasn’t packing the flat up. But we eyes up some pieces for when we move to make the place feel like home.

Notebook .meiying : To celebrate any new job, but let’s be honest, I love a bit of stationery so I didn’t need a reason. And it has dogs on it 🥰

Lip balm : something that’s always in my bag, and the flavour birthday cake, raspberry marshmallow, called out to me

Fridge magnet : I like to get magnets for the places we’ve been together, and was also the first place I saw theatre since moving to the East Mids.

Heading home for a cold drink and to try anything to not turn the oven on.

When you’re given a birthday present early and have to wear to wear it instantly 💕🦙

It’s been a long process, and ‘s book, and podcast and webinars, have been a massive help along the way. Lost this a fair few times, so was thinking of getting the audiobook as well at one point ☺️
