PH raises over P100M sales leads in ASEAN tourism forum
MANILA – The Philippine delegation has raised over PHP100 million worth of sales leads during the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from Feb. 2 to 5.

In a statement Monday, Tourism Promotions Board chief operating officer Maria Margarita Montemayor-Nograles said the country was represented by 16 local exhibitors from the airline industry, tour operators, and accommodations that engaged with 115 international buyers.

“Over and above our impressive turnout in the number of sales leads, I am in much awe of how the participation and performance of the Philippines depicted the excellence and heart of the Filipino brand which truly brought the best of the country to the ASEAN region,” Montemayor-Nograles said.

THE Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Sunday said the 82-man Philippine contingent sent to earthquake-devastated Turkey to help in search and rescue operations had found five survivors under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

The team also checked nine buildings and treated 14 outpatients during the last three days, OCD Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro said.

The Philippines and the United States have agreed to designate four new sites in strategic areas of the country with the aim of accelerating the full implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

According to the Department of National Defense (DND) on Thursday, these new EDCA locations will allow more rapid support for humanitarian and climate-related disasters in the Philippines, and respond to other shared challenges.

“Today, the Philippines and the United States are proud to announce their plans to accelerate the full implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the full agreement to designate four (4) new Agreed Locations in strategic areas of the country and the substantial completion of the projects in the existing five Agreed Locations,” the DND said in a statement.

At a joint press conference shortly after his meeting with visiting US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III, DND chief Carlito Galvez Jr. said he cannot name yet the locations of the four new EDCA sites because of ongoing negotiations with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, local government units, and communities.

Local oil companies are expected to implement a big rollback in the prices of petroleum products next week, an industry source said.

The source said pump prices of diesel may go down by P2.40 to P2.70 per liter and gasoline, by P1.90 to P2.20 per liter. The price of kerosene is also expected to decline by about P2 a liter.

Kahapon, Enero 30 ay nagkaroon ng Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing sa pagitan ng LGU ng Mariveles at Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB). Ito ay kaugnay ng pagkakaroon ng Mariveles-AFAB Partnership Steering Committee. Layunin nito na mas mapaganda ang samahan at magkaroon ng mabungang diyalogo para sa usapin ng trabaho, ekonomiya, turismo, kapayapaan at seguridad, kapakanang panlipunan at iba pang sektor sa Mariveles.

Pursuant to IRR, Rule 4, Section 26 of Republic Act No. 10742 otherwise known as SK Reform Act of 2015, the Local Youth Development Office shall facilitates the registration, verification and validity of local youth organizations in line to the revitalized policy guidelines of the Youth Organization Registration Program (YORP) of the National Youth Commission.

Through this, in order to revitalize and localize the youth accreditation program, the Municipality of Mariveles will be implementing local youth accreditation program as mandate to ensure facilitation in the registration and verification of local youth organizations.

Requirements for Accreditation:
Organizations applying for accreditation shall submit two (2) copies of the following requirements:

a. Letter of Application.

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 37 volunteers of the 279th US Peace Corps arrived in the Philippines for community development work and assistance across Luzon and Visayas, the United States Embassy in Manila said Tuesday.

According to the US Embassy in a statement, the 37 volunteers arrived on Jan. 30 at the invitation of the Philippine government to fulfill roles which include co-teaching the English language in public elementary and secondary schools, serving as youth development facilitators in the Department of Social Welfare and Development-accredited organizations, and supporting local governments in establishing marine protected areas and implementing coastal resource management plans.

MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has commended the United Nations-World Food Programme (UN-WFP) for its unwavering support as a key partner in providing logistical assistance and delivery of relief items to local government units (LGUs) affected by various weather disturbances in the last couple of weeks.

Data from the DSWD’s National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) showed that the UN body assisted in delivering about 27,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs), 8,500 hygiene kits, 2,500 kitchen kits, 25,000 pieces of regular slotted cartons and 40,000 pieces of 3-kilo rice bags to victims of floods in Region 9.

The UN-WFD also delivered 8,500 boxes of FFPs, 86 kitchen kits, and 1,000 sleeping kits in the Caraga region.

For Region 10, the UN-WFD also helped in delivering 15,300 FFPs, 3,000 hygiene kits, 2,000 kitchen kits, 280 family tents and 2,000 sleeping kits.

The DSWD also extended gratitude to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) under the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) for immediately mobilizing assets and personnel to ensure that all areas affected by heavy rains due to low pressure area could immediately receive relief items. The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Wednesday confirmed that one of its SIAI-Marchetti SF-260TP trainer/light attack turboprop aircraft went down in Bataan as its two pilots were conducting "recurrency training."

In a message to reporters, PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said the plane crashed in Barangay Del Rosario in Pilar town at about 10:34 a.m.

"We confirm that it is one of our Air Force aircraft, the SF-260TP aircraft (was) from Sangley (Cavite), it was on a 'recurrency training' and that there were two pilots involved. Unfortunately, we cannot give details more than that, the investigation is ongoing," she said in a message to reporters.

“Recurrency training" refers to the training given to aircrew members or pilots to be proficient in a particular aircraft.

Castillo said the ill-fated aircraft was assigned to the 15th Strike Wing, which is based at the Major Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point, Cavite.

Two of the 15 remote areas in Central Luzon have finished the SIM (subscriber identity module) registration, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) regional office here confirmed on Friday, Jan. 27.
A total of 781 residents in the coastal town of Calumpit in Bulacan province successfully registered their SIM cards on Thursday, NTC regional director Azor Dalmacio Sitchon said.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has deferred the extension of the P250 suggested retail price for onions because of the expected lower price range of the agricultural commodity after the harvest season, Malacañang said yesterday.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil quoted the DA as saying that onion prices may decrease to P100-P150 per kilo with the entry of more than 5,000 metric tons (MT) of imported onions.

Two Philippine air force aviators were killed in a crash Wednesday, while rescuers were searching for another plane that went missing the previous day with six people on board, authorities said.
During a training, the military's SF260 Marchetti plane plummeted onto a rice paddy in Pilar town near Manila, killing the pilot and another aviator, Bataan province's Police Chief Colonel Romell Velasco told AFP.

A 35-year-old overseas Filipino worker based in Kuwait was found murdered in the said country and the Philippines is working with Kuwaiti authorities on getting justice for the victim.
The burnt body of Jullebee Ranara, who was working there as a domestic helper, was found in the desert over the weekend, according to reports of local media.
