associate head coach/cornerbacks coach James Colzie III has been promoted to interim head coach.

Colzie joined the coaching staff in 2022. He previously served as the HC at Saint Mary’s University (Canada) from 2016-21. His overall record was 23-19. Saint Mary’s played for two AUS Championships (2018, and 2019) and posted a conference best 7-1 record during the 2018 season.

His college football playing days were at Florida State from 1993-97. He was earned a national championship in 1993.

Willie Simmons holds the record for the most appearances on Rattler Review podcast. The running joke we shared was that we lost count of the official number. We estimate between 95-100 since the show’s debut in August 2018.

Through all our conversations - on and off the record - we rarely posed for pictures together. I went digging in the crates and found these from 2018. I came to Tallahassee in June 2018. Just weeks into knowing one another, he invited my wife Lequita Warrior Sharrock and I to his hometown of Quincy to attend his church. The second photo was at The Moon in September 2018 celebrating the 1978 national championship team.

Simmons was a great source of information. We are also friends. We’ve talked about life, marriage, music, politics, history and so much more. Cheers to “Shotgun” on his new endeavor as the RB coach at Duke. Stay tuned for our next conversation on his decision to leave and his legacy with the program on a special episode of Rattler Review.
