Legalism is an enemy of the Gospel.

It often misapplies scripture and convinces people that they must earn their salvation.

We touched on legalism in our latest podcast. Check it out here:

New podcast just dropped!

Today, we explore the sensitive and controversial topic of the Billy Graham Rule, a principle where men, particularly in Christian circles, avoid spending time alone with women who are not their wives.

The conversation unpacks the heated debate sparked by a tweet about the rule's negative implications for women, discussing feelings of degradation and limitation in both professional and personal realms.

We also address the necessity of boundaries and the challenge of maintaining meaningful interactions across genders, reflecting on the rule's origin as a protective measure for Billy Graham and its modern-day application.

Don't get it twisted...

Christianity is not about us conforming God to our will.

Rather, it is about surrendering and dying to ourselves as we walk in the Spirit in obedience to Christ.

We must understand God's Word if we want to apply it to our lives.

In a world where many people seek to twist the truth, we must be diligent to understand scripture correctly.

This week, I was honored to have Dr. Peter Goeman of Shepherds Theological Seminary on the podcast to talk about homosexuality in the Old Testament.

We covered culture's attempt to skirt scripture's clear teaching by claiming that the word "homosexuality" it not in the Bible. We also talked about claims of God's apathy toward polygamy and a host of other topics!

We are over half done with our 5 week ministry trip across the Midwest and east coast! It's been a packed schedule with speaking at churches, meeting with people, and travel. We've forged new partnerships and made new friends. We've laughed, cried, and shared hope. We've had sweet moments and great meals with friends and family. My wife is a saint for managing all this with the kids!

I've always believed that when you are in ministry, you are in ministry as a family. And I'm so blessed that we can do this together.

Great article by our friends at Stand to Reason .

Aside from denying and twisting the clear passages of Scripture that prohibit homosexuality, pro-gay theology has another problem: A same-sex couple can’t practice Christian marriage as described in Scripture.

Many roots of our sin problems are similar.

Often times, they come from selfishness and self Idolatry.

We all need one solution and that is to turn to the savior, Christ Jesus!

PRO TIP!

Don't be like this guy. I'm sure he doesn't have any gay friends to invite them to their wedding anyway, because he has pushed them away long before now. Instead of making a social media pronouncement like this, here are some better steps for when you get an invite to a gay wedding:

1) Pray! Pray for the couple. Pray that God would intervene in their life.

2) Pray for yourself. Pray that you would be humbled by God's grace in your life. Pray that you would know deep down that you are nothing but a sinner saved by grace, and just as undeserving of God's grace.

3) Pray for your response: instead of blasting them on social media, try to get together face to face. When you tell them that your convictions won't allow you to attend, communicate with them that you love them. Tell them that they have a savior who is crazy about them. Call out some greatness in them. Offer to pray for them. Take interest in the life of their future spouse.

4) Pray without ceasing.

Will they take this well? Maybe, maybe not. Will they maintain a relationship with you? Maybe, maybe not.

But I think this route gives a much higher probability of Jesus being proclaimed and a person's heart being softened, then the alternative in the sceeenshot.

I once heard it said, "you can tell how healthy a church is by how loudly the men sing."

There is obviously much more to a healthy church than that, and there are many different styles and preferences of music. But, I've found that anecdote to be packed with truth.

It's easy to find a church full of women serving. But this weekend I had the privilege of seeing a church that had men serving in so many ways. Volunteering. Serving food. Teaching. Leading their families. Praying with one another. Investing in other men. Giving their time and resources to make disciples. I saw a passion for Christ in the hearts of the men that is rare.

And every time we gathered in the sanctuary, the room was filled with the sound of men singing praises to their God.

"I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High." Psalm 9:2

Families can unknowingly create cultures that influence kids to take on false identities.

One thing many non-Christians don't understand about Christianity is discipleship.

We are called to make disciples and invest in fellow believers--to walk alongside them in their struggles, hang-ups, hardships, and victories.

This involves a deeper relationship than shaking hands in a pew on Sunday mornings.

"To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us."
