Long time no post. Sorry all. Been super busy.
Jo here from VIDIOTIC podcast. Just had to post and share the sad, sad news of the passing of Kevin Conroy. He was THE voice of Batman for 30+ years throughout countless media. Most notably, his turn in Batman: The Animated Series is one for all time. It meant a lot to me growing up, seeing what a costumed hero could be and how one as ridiculous as “Batman” truthfully sounds, can be a force for good. Kevin made him more than the previous iterations. His iconic voice pushed Batman out from the sillier iterations of both comic and tv (both MASSIVELY loved by me, let there be NO shade) and into a more important stage than ever before. More importantly, he taught what a person should be through actions in his real life. He never put himself on a pedestal above any person he worked with, and most definitely never above his fans. Always arriving to any convention, always signing his signature, and always posing for countless pictures with the people who helped push him to where he was. Truly a humble person and the fact he pushed through cancer for years to do so is extraordinary. He saw what Batman was to people, what it meant to those who wanted to strive for more, wanted to do more, wanted to BE more. He saw and experienced what his turn as the Caped Crusader helped do for the medium of television, comics & voice acting. Granted, my article here might make it seem like he did this singlehandedly, but that is not the case. I just want to point out all the work that he helped be a part of. And, also on a personal note, what part of his work that helped, inspired and pushed ME.
They say don’t meet your heroes. But I met one of mine back in 2018 and it will honestly be one of the best experiences if my life. RIP to Vengeance, the Night and my hero.
