MISS UNIVERSE PHILIPPINES 2022 FINAL HOWPICKS ✨

I scored the candidates' presentations and based upon their preliminary performances, here are the women who are on my Top 15 list.

1. PASAY Celeste Cortesi.

If there is one thing I am going to clock about Celeste is her communication skills, but not in a bad way. Celeste's commskills have improved, not only she speaks English better, she makes more sense now. She is also very relatable whenever she starts opening her mouth. Her pasarela walk, SUPERB. Her presence, FELT. She's very commanding and I think if nerves do not get in her way come finals, she would be unstoppable.

2. DAVAO DEL NORTE Nicci Orcena

She reminds me so much of Chella Falconer from last year's batch. Very endearing. A strong performer. She can definitely go head to head with the frontrunners.

3. ILOILO PROVINCE Vanessa Caro

As a dancer, she gives a very clean and on point performance. In terms of CommSkills, undeniably great. I just hope to see better styling during finals. If she penetrates the Top 5, hold that mic and just converse, the crown will be back in Iloilo.

4. BAGUIO Ghenesis Latugat

The face? The Body? The walk? The presence? Hello universe??!?!?! She's undeniably one of the girls who are great great great performers. Her commskills are not that bad, she just needs more conviction.

5. BOHOL Pauline Amelincx

She really showed up. I have to be very honest , she has to be more confident with her pasarela walk. I still have to see that coronation glow from Pauline. Nevertheless, great preliminary performance from her. STRONG PRELIM INTERVIEW AT THAT.

6-10. Girls that need to be more consistent;

Albay - styling and pacing.
Cebu City - nerves during Q and A as she gets lost.
Taguig - command cause quite hesitant, tentative performances
Palawan - commskills
Misamis Oriental - that gown. Conciseness should be observed and use simpler words.

11-15.

Makati - Need to be more present on stage. Gives okay answers but has the tendency to get lost in the trail. Should organize thoughts better.

Iloilo City - needs to work on her conviction; especially stage presence.

Lucena - coasting.

Cebu Province - Depth with her answers.

Aklan - Needs stronger performance.

PROBABLY FINAL REVIEW FOR MISS UNIVERSE 2021

1. Still problematic to stage the competition in a place which commits ethnic cleansing to the owner of the land.

2. No amount of humanizing or singing of "Hallelujah" can cover up for the crimes that the Israeli Govt commits against Palestinians.

3. I still don't understand the selection of some contestant who advanced but their performances on live stage might be different from what we see on screen.

4. Thank God Bea showed a very solid performance. Definitely deserving of her inclusion until Top 5. To be fair to her, in a country where COVID-19 Response is slow, you can't quickly think of an answer that involves policies. The time pressure and the lack of reference definitely hindered her to answer clearly. What's good though is we know where she's going with her answer.

5. Objectively speaking, Miss Paraguay's inclusion in Top 3 is questionable as she did not answer the question and even gave a lackluster answer. With this, arguably, Miss Colombia was rigged of that top 3 position.

6. Miss South Africa's Top 5 Answer was problematic as she supports cancel culture (as we know that culture in itself is toxic) and just covered it with a "Redemption Culture". The direction is there but I hope it was worded better. I honestly think tho while some deserve getting cancelled esp when they display arrogance, I still believe that she should've focused more on why people must address cancel culture and things how to avoid it.

7. MISS INDIA WAS JUST THERE TO CLAIM HER CROWN. From the get go, we know she's a winner. She also learned how the camera works and took her time in every appearance. VERY VERY SMART. Also her wisdom...girl. She's definitely the clear winner.

On Ashtie Nights' MUPh Final Leg Analysis:

The interview overall was fair until the ashties became off with their choice of words, they came overboard with the terms used on some parts of the interview.

Implying as though girls should look a certain way, act a certain way is problematic and putting the girls in a box - compartmentalizing women. We get that this is a beauty pageant, but where do beauty pageants stand today? Inclusion of different kinds of women who bring something different and new to the table.

While it's true that the girls have to be on their A game, some of them are on the experimental stage, the team they work with of course experiment some looks to know what suits for that woman and what makes that woman feel best. On that note, I hope we become lenient to the people who work behind the scenes given that not each team has resources that others have - also there's a pandemic going on, I can only say that it's difficult to pull out resources. It's easier said than done. They can exhaust all the means right but we are facing an uncertain time.

On the other circulating clips with two of the Ashties and a runner-up, the criticism/opinion were valid UNTIL one of them resorted to ableism.

There's nothing wrong with giving criticism as long as those criticisms do not attack a person's physical appearance, invalidating how they express themselves when it's not a problem naman but more an asset.

Question: So when do we put the line? When we do more harm than good. When we resort to invalidating their efforts instead of cutting some slack.

I sure love to hear criticisms for these ladies until the demoralizing choice of words spewed from these critiques. I hope we choose better words, educating ourselves what's right from wrong.

This message is not only for the Ashtie's but for everyone in the pageant community who have huge platforms, to stop with their hypocrisy as well - you know giving unsolicited advice to these ladies and putting them in a box like we're in the 18th century.

On Miss Universe being held in Israel:

Filipino pageant fans are celebrating because it will be held in Israel, where an Indonesian candidate in particular may not be able to participate in. Some Filipino pageant fans celebrate because merese on the ID fans for all the bullying the did to our candidates. I do not think it's right to celebrate the non-inclusion of an Indonesian candidate because their country does not have a good relationship with Israel. I think that's just whack. It's Petty. Personally, I do not want our future MUPh to even compete their and “celebrate” the “culture” that Israel stole from Palestine.

On top of that, choosing Israel as a venue is disappointing to begin with. Idk what happened with Miss Universe. What do they intend to do? Humanize the country? Won't the organization stand up for Palestine? Stand up against the crimes Israel did to Palestinians? Celebrate the apartheid? The bombings of US-backed Israel govt to the Palestinians?

Anyway, and Miss Universe , you can still change your mind.
