Carlton & United Breweries is again throwing its support behind Australia’s live music scene to the tune of around $100,000 by organising a stellar line up to play at Aussie pubs and clubs next month.

CUB LIV LOUD 2024 will see about 40 venues across Australia receive cash grants from CUB to host artists on off-peak days through Ausmusic month in November.

Grinspoon, The Rubens, The Rions and even ex-Red Wiggle Murray Cook’s band The Soul Movers are among the acts in this year’s lineup.

CUB will also donate funds directly to charity Support Act to help fund their mission to deliver crisis relief, mental health programs and more for live music industry workers.

Murray Cook said: “The Soul Movers are super excited to be playing at the Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour on Sunday 17 November as part of this fantastic initiative, LIV LOUD. Support Act's work is so important to our industry and we are happy to be able to contribute alongside many great acts across so many venues.

“As someone who grew up in regional NSW, I am delighted that the initiative is taking music to regional areas. So get along to some shows, wear a band shirt for Ausmusic T-shirt Day and support Aussie Musicians through Support Act.”

CUB Marketing Manager Sarah Wilcox said: “CUB has supported Aussie pubs for many years and we’re thrilled to continue this tradition with LIV LOUD.

“Venues use their grants from CUB to pay for putting on their shows – from paying the performers to hiring extra staff so punters can enjoy a great night out. Formats will vary from live music to DJs and trivia so that there is something for everyone.

“LIV LOUD 2024 will drive foot traffic through the door on off-peak nights and support venues when they need it. Our first LIV LOUD program last year was so well-received we had to do it again and it’s terrific we can help Support Act as part of it.”

Ausmusic T-Shirt Day, scheduled for November 28 this year, is coordinated by Support Act annually to raise urgently-needed funds for music workers in crisis. Aussies can show their support by buying an Aussie music t-shirt throughout November, making a donation to Support Act or setting up a team to fundraise.

Support Act’s CEO Clive Miller said: “We are delighted that CUB will be presenting its LIV LOUD program in support of Ausmusic T-Shirt Day and live music venues once again this year. Last year’s program was a fantastic success, bringing music events into venues across the country throughout November to celebrate Australian music and raise funds for Support Act. As our tagline says, Life’s better with Australian music and we thank CUB for their generous support for the campaign and for their help in keeping the music playing for everyone who works in Australian music.”

Kicking off The Vinyl Tour Continued earlier this month, today prolific Aussie rockers Cog are pleased to announce an extra live show for 2024, with a performance locked and loaded on Saturday 30 November at Brisbane's revived live music venue: Crowbar.

Following the recent news that Brisbane live music institute The Zoo would be taken over by Crowbar, the beloved indie venue known for championing all things alternative, punk and heavy, the announcement was music to the ears of heavy fans and bands alike; and Cog will help kick-start this exciting new era onstage at Brisbane's Crowbar on Saturday 30 November, joined by special guests HAMMERS and The Sea Benz.

Currently on the road visiting largely regional parts of Australia as part of The Vinyl Tour Continued, Cog recently ticked off shows in Bunurong/Frankston, Wadawurrung/Torquay, and Arakwal/Byron Bay, with the latter two shows entirely sold out. The band will be heading next to Goomburrup/Bunbury on Thursday 31 October and Wadandi Boodja/Margaret River on Friday 1 November, supported by Yomi Ship, as well as Walyalup/Fremantle on Saturday 2 November supported by Yomi Ship and Primrose Path. Tickets are selling fast, so don't delay!

And before heading up to the Sunshine State for their freshly announced Crowbar Brisbane extravaganza as the final stop on The Vinyl Tour Continued, Cog will also jump up on the hallowed stage of Crowbar Sydney on Friday 29 November for the venue's inaugural birthday celebrations, also joined by HAMMERS and The Sea Benz, with the event sold out months in advance; and the night set to be one for the ages.

Renowned as one of the country's consummate live acts, this tour sees Cog continue the festivities surrounding the long-awaited release of their seminal albums The New Normal (2005) and Sharing Space (2008) on vinyl for the first time ever, as well as the first pressing of their compilation record Just Visiting (2008).

Iconic synth-pop pioneers, New Order have today announced an Australian tour for March 2025. The tour will see them perform all the biggest hits from their impressive four-decade, 10-album career on stages across Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in March 2025.

Their first Australian tour since 2020, New Order will transform some of the country’s most beloved live music venues into synth-pop laser wonderlands. They hit RAC Arena (Perth) on March 5, Sidney Myer Music Bowl (Melbourne) on March 8, Riverstage (Brisbane) on March 11, and finishing up with two shows on the spectacular Sydney Opera House Forecourt on March 14 and 15.

There will be a fan presale live from 11:00am (local time) Monday 28 October until 9am (local time) Thursday 31 October, with general public tickets on sale from 10am (local time) Thursday 31 October. Tickets available from teglive.com.au.

Thrilled to be returning to Australian shores, the band shared, “It’s an honour to be coming back to perform in one of our favourite places. We sadly had to cancel a Melbourne show in March 2020, as a consequence of Covid and are so happy we can come back to play again. We’ve always loved playing in Australia and are excited to be returning for a run of very special shows in 2025. Good things come to those who wait!”

From the ashes of the legendary band Joy Division, New Order has triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of all time. Last year, they celebrated 40 years of their hit Blue Monday and shared a reissued edition of their classic compilation Substance 1987, the band’s biggest selling album to date. With mountains of awards under their belt and over 3.5 million albums sold worldwide, New Order have proven they are a force within the industry, and are as relevant as ever, having won over fans of all ages, even headlining Barcelona’s Primavera Sound last year.

The band first visited Australia in 1982, shortly after the release of their debut album, Movement. Over the years, they have returned multiple times, captivating Australian audiences with their unique blend of post-punk and electronic music, and they’ll be back in 2025 to play through all their hits - Blue Monday, Temptation, Bizarre Love Triangle - just to reel off a few.

Tickets go on sale from teglive.com.au on Thursday 31 October at 10am local time.

Review for Serial Music Magazine by Stephanie Jewell

John 5
American guitarist John 5 is John William Lowery, a musician who has been playing guitar since he was old enough to hold one. He was opening up for Steel Panther at Metro City tonight, backed by a drummer and a range of loop effects pedals, 6 string, bass and a strange little electric ukulele type instrument. John 5’s set began with a recording playing overhead of Gene Wilder singing ‘come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of pure imagination’ as he took to the stage and the anticipating crowd went wild. He is an insanely talented guitarist, previously playing with musical acts like David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, his own band Loser and more recently playing with Motley Crue to replace Mick Mars since 2022. This is in addition to his own successful and lengthy solo career. John 5 has a huge style range to his guitar playing, as we were about to witness. A lot of his blues and rock guitar training and Jimi Hendrix influences shone through on stage as he tore through his set list before ripping through a medley of Motley Crue’s hottest tracks. John 5 would have to be one of the best guitar players I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live! He was able to layer complex riffs, shredding solos, and bass lines to effectively create an intricate atmospheric soundscape that the drums bounced off of, while the audience sang the words to the songs for him. Shout out to his guitar tech constantly running instruments out to John 5 as he played and created these amazing loops against a backdrop of thunderous drumming before jumping on bass themselves and joining John 5 on stage. It was an engaging and interactive set, and the way he brought the crowd on stage (metaphorically) with him by asking them to sing the lyrics back to him was phenomenal. I would say he is one of the guitar masters of this time. His set was full of crazy intricate finger picking, slides and weird bends, and layered riffs! It was rock and metal, but it was also a psychadelic jazz fusion, intricately . It was insane! If you haven’t seen John 5 play, definitely do if you get the chance, he is easily hailed as one of the greatest metal guitarists of our time.
Setlist: 666 Pickers, Que Pasa, Crank It, LA Express, I Am John 5, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (cover) The Black Grass Plague, Strung Out, Season Of The Witch, Motley Crue Medley: Livewire, Too Fast For Love, Shout At The Devil, Looks That Kill, Home Sweet Home, Wild Side, Girls Girls Girls, Same Old Situation, Dr Feelgood, Kickstart My Heart

Steel Panther
It wasn’t long before some of the tightest buns in rock and roll came prancing out, the brightly coloured spandex clad comedic glam sleaze hair metal band Steel Panther took to the stage, with Starr telling the crowd ‘hold onto your vaginas, you fu***ng pussies!’ as he thrust his junk, to the crowd’s cheers. They launched into Eyes of a Panther before switching to Let Me Cum In, as the crowd clapped and cheered, singing the lyrics straight back to the band over shredding guitars, juicy bass and hard hitting drums. Starr has a voice that can easily rival Vince Neil of Motley Crue. To paint the scene on stage, singer Michael Starr was wearing a ‘Straight Outta Your Mum’ tank and leather tie up pants with studs all over them. The guitarist Satchel was wearing red and black striped spandex pants and a beer o’clock tank. Bass player Spyder was wearing purple and black glittering studded spandex pants and a denim vest, and drummer Stix Zadinia was wearing purple patterned spandex pants with a strategically cut tank that said ‘two seater’ and had an arrow pointing up towards his mouth and an arrow pointing down towards his dick. They were all wearing bandanas and boots to really look the glam-sleaze-hair metal part!

Their banter with the crowd was absolutely off-chops phenomenal! From the ‘f**k yeah, mother fu**er, yeah, f**k yeah’ repetition chanting, through to the numerous ‘show us your ti***es’ calls, of which some of the crowd obliged, through to the ‘tell that guy in the crowd to wipe the s***m off his face’, the crowd loved every minute of it! Starr continued the hilarious banter, telling the crowd that he loves Perth ‘because the women are beautiful and easy to f**k here’ and that he feels so high ‘like he is a kid at a Diddy party’ before telling the crowd ‘lets turn this into a t***y party’. The rest of the band were joining in the banter, often making jokes about each other.

Stix did an impersonation of Rick Allen from Def Leppard when he pulled one of his arms into his shirt, drumming through a little solo. The band joked ‘you know what they say about the Def Leppard Drummer? He always gets left out’ and followed that up with ‘Nah, I’ve met him, and they say hes all right’ in a hilarious nod to losing his left arm. By this point the crowd were in absolute stitches, as Asian Ho**er started, and Steel Panther continued to jump around and thrust their junk at the crowd shaking their b***y in between strategically coordinated spins and headbanging dance moves. The banter continued, with ‘make some noise for friendship, nothing gross about having sex
with 4 guys at the same time’ before Friends With Benefits cranked out their guitars and Starr dazzled the crowds. Satchel had absolutely phenomenal guitar work, ripping into a wicked solo that the crowd absolutely loved. The banter continued with Starr and the guys talking about cu***ng in girls asses, then cu***ng in guys asses – ‘but its okay because they’re gay’.

Steel Panther launched into their next song, 1987, talking about Kip Winger’s excellent facial hair, White Snake’s album, White Snake, and finding out that Poison were all dudes. The crowd sang along, and ate up the insanely awesome crowd interaction and banter before another wicked guitar solo by Satchel. They pulled a girl out of the audience, Electra, who was more than happy to flash her ti***es to the crowd below. They each took turns writing her a song then and there, with lyrics including ‘I wanna get you to jack me off in my mum’s minivan’ by Starr and ‘I wanna stick my hand inside you and tickle your fallopian tubes’ by Satchel, and ‘I only got one wish, I really wanna see your chocolate star fish’. It was comedic gold and the crowd, as well as Electra, loved every second of it!

The set was nearing its end as Steel Panther played Girl from Oklahoma and then did a rendition of Take It Easy by The Eagles, with new lyrics ‘come on pretty baby, suck my balls all night’ included. The band pulled more girls out of the crowd, with an open invitation to any girls who wanna come up on stage. They launched into 17 Girls In A Row, as Starr sang and hugged each of the girls who were excitedly dancing on stage. They sang Community Property as the girls were singing along having a great time and the crowd watched as new friendships formed between excited dancing girls on stage. Steel Panther ended their set with Party All Day, doing a fake exit before coming back for an encore of Glory Hole to the crowds absolute delight. The crowd screamed every word back to the band ‘I’m gonna blow my load at the glory hole!” They threw a hat between themselves as the crowd cheered on to end the night, thanking Perth. Steel Panther are absolute rock stars with an incredible stage presence. For a start of their On The Prowl tour they chose the best city to start it in.
Setlist: Eyes of a Panther, Let Me Cum In, Asian Ho**er, Fat Girl, Friends With Benefits, Death To All But Metal, 1987, Girl From Oklahoma, Take It Easy (cover), 17 Girls In A Row, Community Property, Party All Day, Gloryhole

The music and counterculture experience will hit the East coast of Australia starting on Friday, February 28th at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, then heads to Brisbane on Sunday, March 2nd at Brisbane Showground before wrapping up in Sydney on Saturday, March 8th at Centennial Park.

Headlined by SLIPKNOT, the 2025 festival line-up also includes A DAY TO REMEMBER, BABYMETAL, SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL, POLARIS, WITHIN TEMPTATION, ENTER SHIKARI, HATEBREED, IN HEARTS WAKE, HEALTH, MISS MAY I, VENDED and SUNAMI.

Following their monumental performances launching Australia’s first ever KNOTFEST in 2023, SLIPKNOT will return down under in 2025 to headline proceedings for this not-to-be-missed rock and heavy music festival.

As always, attendees can expect a performance unlike any other, from a band who only get more thrilling, exciting and cathartic as time goes on. Having released a new record in 2022, The End, So Far (crowned at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart; their fourth consecutive album to do so), SLIPKNOT refuse to rest on past glories and continue to innovate, with fan favourites including as many new songs as older. Between enduring fan-revered singles like Duality, Psychosocial and Wait and Bleed, as well as deeper cuts and newer material over the years, SLIPKNOT’s drive and creativity bleeds through their jaw-dropping live performances.

In 2012, the journey to creating a platform of their own in KNOTFEST, was born out of SLIPKNOT’s dedication to creating a memorable live experience for audiences around the world. Headline slots at some of the world’s biggest festivals including Download, Wacken, Rock In Rio, Hellfest and more perfectly set SLIPKNOT up with the ambition to take things further; building their own festival that not only championed new waves of incredible talent, but enshrined their own status as one of the best bands to do it.”

No strangers to Australian shores, Florida-hailing quartet A DAY TO REMEMBER head to Australia for the first time since 2019. Wielding an irresistible melting pot of metalcore, pop-punk and post-hardcore, A DAY TO REMEMBER have remained one of the most versatile and vigorous acts to emerge from the early 2000s, with the group remaining an active force from the halcyon days of Myspace and physical media through to the modern era of TikTok and streaming. In command of hundreds of millions of Spotify streams and YouTube views, seven studio albums, including two certified Gold records, entirely sold out tours in their wake, and their own curated Self Help Festival.

Electrifying purveyors of kawaii metal, BABYMETAL, will bring their kaleidoscopic infusion of J-pop-meets-heavy-metal wizardry. BABYMETAL have taken the heavy world by storm since first forming in 2010. Between their exclusive global fanbase, THE ONE, ongoing chart success, including the rare feat as becoming the first Asian act to storm to the top of the Billboard Rock Albums chart, avant-garde creative aesthetics and direction, and a legion of celebrity fans, including Corey Taylor, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Deftones and Limp Bizkit, BABYMETAL unleashed their fourth studio album The Other One in 2023 and sold out their first Australian headline tour in 2023. The group also recently teamed up with German metal partystarters Electric Callboy on the hyper and heaving track RATATATA.

After obliterating Aussie crowds with their debut Australian performance as part of Good Things Festival in 2023, Russian deathcore behemoths SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL led by the formidable frontman, Alex Terrible, bring a ferocious blend of deathcore and blackened metal sonic onslaught that leaves no survivors. Their relentless pursuit of metal domination has led them to conquer stages across the globe, and their relentless dedication to their craft and their unwavering stance against violence, they have the ability to captivate audiences with their brutal yet melodic compositions.

Earning a reputation as one of the most formidable Australian heavy bands of their generation, Sydney’s POLARIS weld a gripping blend of melodic metalcore, electronica, lush post rock and heartfelt lyricism, with their most recent album, 2023’s Fatalism, earning the group their first ever #1 ARIA Albums Chart debut, winning AIR’s Best Independent Heavy Album award as well as securing their third ARIA Music Award nomination following nods for 2017’s The Mortal Coil and 2020’s The Death of Me. Along with their laundry list of accolades are sold-out headline tours of Australia and tours across the globe as well as appearing at multiple international festivals.

Pioneers of dark and anthemic music, WITHIN TEMPTATION, has captivated audiences for over 20 years and the Dutch powerhouse modern rockers will head to Australia for the very first time in 2025. Their career spans eight studio albums, over four million records sold and dominating the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts, WITHIN TEMPTATION are renowned for their powerful live performances.

British rockers ENTER SHIKARI exploded onto the scene in 2023 and their 2007 debut album Take to the Skies generated significant chart success and certified Gold status. A band who wield an exhilarating amalgamation of alt rock, and electronica along with drum and bass, dubstep and beyond, ENTER SHIKARI also delve into societal and personal themes, seen most recently on 2023’s A Kiss for the Whole World, which debuted #1 on the UK album charts. They have garnered multiple award wins and nominations over the years, including for their unforgettable onstage prowess.

American heavy metal hardcore icons HATEBREED are set to detonate their monstrous live show down under, celebrating 30 years as a band. Commemorating three decades in existence that has spanned eight studio albums, multiple Billboard 200 appearances and global fanbase, HATEBREED are also primed to salute their seminal sophomore album, 2002’s Perseverance, with Australian audiences. Perseverance paved the way for the fusion of hardcore and metal and received worldwide recognition hailing HATEBREED as forefronts of the genre.

Hailing from Byron Bay, Australian metalcore giants, IN HEARTS WAKE, are fresh off the release of their sixth studio album, Incarnation and national Australian headline tour. IN HEARTS WAKE fuse themes of social and environmental justice into their palpitating brand of metalcore, with millions of streams and a dedicated fanbase across the globe flourishing alongside the band's environmental endeavours.

Adding to the brutality is Los Angeles industrial cult-faves HEALTH following their entirely sold out down under headline run earlier this year. An addictive and transcendent force to be reckoned with, HEALTH’s industrial-cum metal wiles lurch under your skin while balancing nihilism and mesmerising textures, witnessed most vividly on their 2023 full length album RAT WARS. All the way from Ohio, metal mavericks MISS MAY I will lend their trademark sonic fury to the KNOTFEST experience, following the recent unveiling of their entirely re-recorded 15th anniversary version of their beloved 2009 debut album Apologies Are for the Weak.

Hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, VENDED has been pushing the limits of combustible energy and raw aggression since their 2018 inception. Their bold, honest, passionate take on heavy music raises the flag for a new generation. Revolver heralded them as one of 10 Bands Leading the New Wave of NĂŒ-Metal and they have shared stages supporting Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, and Knocked Loose and headliners/festivals in North America, Europe and South America.

San Fran bay area hardcore group SUNAMI formed in 2019. Originally intended as a short-lived joke band however after gaining notoriety for their violent debut live performance, the band continued past their planned time frame with the release of three EP’s and their self-titled debut album in 2023. Revolver credited them as "in the upper echelon of bands dominating the hardcore zeitgeist.”

KNOTFEST Australia 2025 will see the elevated return of the fan-favourite KNOTFEST MUSEUM. The enhanced museum will unveil iconic items throughout SLIPKNOT’s 25 year defining career including new activations, photo op, and more that immerse you into SLIPKNOT history/lore. This can’t miss event will bring the globally loved attraction back to Australia. As this event sold out last time, tickets are strictly limited in each city.

Early bird pre-sale tickets are on sale at 11am local time on Monday 21st October here and general public tickets go on sale at 3pm local time on Wednesday 23rd October here.

They Might Be Giants - Live at the Astor Theatre Perth (October 13th 2024)

Perth’s iconic Astor Theatre played host to They Might Be Giants on October 13th, and what a night it was! The sold-out crowd packed into the art-deco venue for an evening that celebrated the band’s beloved Flood album alongside a few deeper cuts and hits from their 40+ year career. As expected, TMBG delivered a quirky, memorable, and musically impressive show that left no fan unsatisfied.

The performance was divided into two sets, with a particularly inventive twist marking the end of the first. "Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love" closed the set, played sonically in reverse. In a stroke of genius, the performance was filmed, then immediately beamed onto the big screen, played forward to kick off the second set, a wonderfully eccentric touch that encapsulates the band’s unique creativity.

Both Johns, Flansburgh and Linnell, took turns leading songs, their chemistry on full display as they traded off vocals and harmonized effortlessly. Their stellar harmonies are a testament to more than 40 years of playing together, and the joy they share in performing was palpable. The duo peppered the show with humorous stories, including amusing tales of their frequent tours of Germany and a tongue-in-cheek claim that they were responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall, complete with offers of "sweaty salami." The playful banter added a layer of intimacy, making the show feel more like a gathering of old friends than a typical concert.

The horn section was another standout of the night, with each member given solo moments that showcased the depth of talent within the band. Their contributions added a rich layer to the already dynamic sound, particularly during the Flood tracks, which brimmed with energy.

The second set built to a euphoric conclusion, with some of TMBG’s biggest hits igniting the crowd. "Birdhouse in Your Soul" was as delightful as ever, while "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" and "Doctor Worm" had the audience singing along enthusiastically. The energy in the room was undeniable, and even though it was a school night, the fans' dedication was unwavering, proving that TMBG still boasts one of the most loyal and fervent fanbases in rock.

By the end of the night, it was clear that They Might Be Giants are not only masters of their craft but also master entertainers, delivering a show packed with wit, warmth, and musical brilliance. If this performance is any indication, they’ll continue delighting audiences for many years to come.

Parkway Drive’s performance at RAC Arena on September 30, 2024, was nothing short of a metal spectacle, leaving fans awestruck and cementing it as the best metal show of the year. With a stellar lineup featuring support from I Prevail, The Ghost Inside, and Void of Vision, the night was packed with energy, intense performances, and a jaw-dropping production.

Parkway Drive were truly at their peak, delivering a show that demonstrated their dominance in the metal scene. The band didn't just bring their music—they brought a full-scale production that would rival any major arena act. The use of three distinct stage setups added layers of depth to the performance, each more immersive than the last. From their intimate opening on a small platform in the middle of the arena to the grand, industrial main stage adorned with dancers, the transitions kept fans on their toes. One of the standout moments was when they unleashed pyrotechnics and flame effects that were as explosive as their music. The intense lighting, smoke, and pyro during tracks like Crushed and Bottom Feeder were synced perfectly with the pounding breakdowns, making it a visceral experience.

I Prevail, delivered a high-energy performance, kicking off circle pits and and giving the crowd hits like "Bow Down" and "Hurricane." Their signature blend of post-hardcore and metalcore was amplified by eerie background visuals and fierce crowd interaction. The Ghost Inside and Void of Vision also delivered equally powerful sets, with each band given the space and sound quality to shine—something Parkway Drive was generous with throughout the night.

The highlight of the evening, however, was Parkway Drive’s ability to blend their raw sound with a theatrical performance. From Winston McCall’s commanding presence to Jeff Ling’s guitar heroics on a raised platform, the band’s synergy with their audience was palpable. The emotional gravity of tracks like Darker Still, enhanced by a starry backdrop of phone lights, contrasted beautifully with the chaos of older tracks like Boneyards.
