Pet custody battles are growing in Canada. Since animals are considered personal property, there’s no current law in Canada that supports the idea of shared custody. When it comes to a court-ordered division of property during a split with a spouse or a significant other, animals generally end up with the person who bought them. What do you think?

“I disagreed with a program he proposed and it infuriated him. He would tell me that a meeting was on Wednesday when it was really on Tuesday. He would ask me to come out to the plant for a meeting with a given executive and when I got there no such meeting had been scheduled. Eventually, he began to suggest that I had early onset dementia” read the full story with a lawyer’s opinion : http://bit.ly/lc-gas

“BE COMPLIANT WITH COURT ORDERS AND CUSTODY AGREEMENTS.

As much as possible, try to avoid reinventing the wheel despite the unusual circumstances. The custody agreement or court order exists to prevent endless haggling over the details of timesharing. In some jurisdictions there are even standing orders mandating that, if schools are closed, custody agreements should remain in force as though school were still in session.”

With post-secondary students having switched to online classes in light of Covid-19, many students are not learning as well and are fighting for their tuition to be returned.

Universities aren’t refunding students because they feel that online classes are a perfect substitution for the real thing. Even though the stipulations the students signed off on were that they knew how the classes were to be delivered, in-class. Students are disagreeing that the (maybe) 90 minutes of online time is not the same thing and they are left to suffer the consequences, averaging lower GPA’s and money wasted.

What can be done for these young people struggling with these new “classroom settings”? How should the school systems be helping?

49% of employees who experience bullying in the workplace become clinically depressed and 30% of those people targeted will suffer from PTSD.

As many companies have moved to working from home during COVID-19, many colleagues are finding that they are less stressed and that their performance level has increased without having their superior breathing down their neck, criticizing them constantly.

How many people were being scrutinized and harassed at work without realizing this was a form of bullying? What are your thoughts?

Please share and help thank our frontline workers for their hard work.

We are so proud of all our front-line workers. We want to pay tribute to all of the hard-working folks getting us through this rough time. There are no words to describe how much we appreciate everything you are doing for us. With a big thank you to Diana Kemp for putting it into words for us with this beautiful poem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The son of a front-line nurse is a retail worker. Their employer recalls all of its staff after a temporary lay-off, but decides to terminate that worker because the employer is concerned that the worker may be at higher risk of contracting COVID-19 due to the fact their parent is a health care worker;

An employer is making the decision of which employees to keep on payroll while working from home, and which employees will be issued a temporary lay-off notice. The brother of a physician, who lives with that physician, is selected as one who will be given a temporary lay-off. When asked why, the employer says “because you live with your brother who is at the hospital all day, you’ll probably going to get the virus anyways”;

The common law partner of a Respiratory Therapist is working on an essential construction project. The foreman of the project is aware that her partner is a Respiratory Therapist, and sends her home while keeping the rest of the crew at work. The common law partner believes she was the only one sent home because the foreman perceives her to be a high risk of contracting coronavirus through her Respiratory Therapist partner.

Employers will not explicitly state the reason they are choosing an employee to be terminated or laid-off.

Employment Lawyers at Taylor Janis Workplace Law are accommodating laid off workers with a telephone or video conference to discuss their matters.

As front line workers are expected to have more exposure to the Covid-19 virus, should co-parenting be limited for that frontline parent to ensure the child’s safety, what are your opinions?

It might be helpful to consult with a family lawyer to understand your unique custody situation during this pandemic. Family lawyers at Spectrum Family Law are offering online video consultations to assist with this matter.
