Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime on Thursday when a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a p**n star ahead of the 2016 election.
After deliberations over two days, the 12-member jury announced it had found Trump guilty on all 34 counts he faced. Unanimity was required for any verdict.
Trump watched the jurors dispassionately as they were polled to confirm the guilty verdict.
Justice Juan Merchan set sentencing for July 11, three days before the start of the Republican National Convention expected to formally nominate Trump for president.
Merchan thanked the jurors for their service. “Nobody can make you do anything you don’t want to do. The choice is yours,” Merchan said.
The verdict plunges the United States into unexplored territory ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, when Trump, the Republican candidate, will try to win the White House back from Democratic President Joe Biden.
Trump, 77, has denied wrongdoing and was expected to appeal.
“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt,” Trump told reporters afterwards.
“The real verdict is going to be Nov. 5 by the people,” Trump said, adding: “I am a very innocent man.”
He faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison, though others convicted of that crime often receive shorter sentences, fines or probation. Incarceration would not prevent him from campaigning, or taking office if he were to win.

Red Lobster has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Florida, the company said in a statement.

The company says it intends to use the proceedings to “drive operational improvements, simplify the business through a reduction in locations, and pursue a sale of substantially all of its assets.”

Last week, Red Lobster’s website listed 87 stores listed as “temporarily closed” across 27 states, with some of them having their kitchen equipment up for auction on an online restaurant liquidator.

A helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday, according to Iran’s state media, but has yet to be found by search-and-rescue workers because of heavy fog. The helicopter was also carrying Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran’s foreign minister. Their status is unknown.

Floyd Mayweather was set to rematch Victor Ortiz in an exhibition match on August 24th in Mexico. Previously, the CDMX government had publicly announced that the 50-0 legend would appear. Floyd Mayweather was set to conduct a massive free boxing class and open workout this Thursday, May 16, at the Zocalo in Mexico City. However, the boxer’s no-show has ruined all the plans.

Munguia last lost his bid to snag Canelo Alvarez’s IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO 168-pound straps. The boxing world awaits the next billing of both. Meanwhile, ‘Money’ had an agreement to compete at the Plaza De Toros in an exhibition match. For the time being, organizers do not have a concrete reason for the cancellation of Mayweather’s massive class.

The Biden administration has told key lawmakers it is sending a new package of more than $1 billion in arms and ammunition to Israel, two congressional aides said Tuesday.

It’s the first arms shipment to Israel to be announced by the administration since it put another arms transfer — consisting of 3,500 bombs — on hold earlier in the month. The administration has said it paused that earlier transfer to keep Israel from using the bombs in its growing offensive in the crowded southern Gaza city of Rafah.

The congressional aides spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an arms transfer that has not yet been made public.

The package being sent includes about $700 million for tank ammunition, $500 million in tactical vehicles and $60 million in mortar rounds, the aides said.

President Biden and former president Donald Trump agreed Wednesday to a June 27 debate on CNN and a Sept. 10 debate broadcast by ABC News, hours after Biden announced he would bypass the decades-old tradition of three fall meetings organized by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.

Trump’s campaign team released a statement calling on Biden to agree to two more presidential debates in July and August.

Floyd Mayweather was planning on announcing it himself, but alas! Just the other day, ‘Money’ Mayweather announced he will get back in the ring one more time against an unknown opponent! He also suggested he will reveal the identity on May 15, but ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez seems to have gotten to it first.

Hours ago, Rodriguez hopped on X to announce to the masses that the five division champion will face former rival Víctor Ortizon August 24 at the Plaza de Toros México. Ortiz and Mayweather went toe-to-toe all the way back in September 2011, where Floyd Mayweather knocked out ‘Vicious’ after the latter head butted him in round four.

While honey the color of purple may sound like a fever dream or a fun title for a book, purple honey does exist in the expansive world of honey. Yet purple honey is only found in North Carolina, and though locals have been familiar with the purple-hued sweetener for years, the exact reason for the rare gem-colored honey is unknown.

In the 1970s, a professor of beekeeping and one of the presidents of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association set out to find the mysterious cause for the purple honey. Though honeybees returned to blue-honey hives without blue-colored substances in their stomachs, the bees exiting the hives carried the colored sweetener, leaving researchers to conclude that there is a relationship between the bees’ digestive systems and what is later found in the hives. Dees also reasoned that this purple honey carries a fruity taste due to fruit juices collected by the bees.
Since blooming pants are seasonal in the area, local bees visit places where darker-colored berries like blueberries and blackberries can be found. “My thought is that the bees go to that fruit, chew it up, get the juice, it goes into their honey stomach, which bees have a separate stomach than their digestive stomach,” apiary owner Donald Dees explained to WRAL News.

Though other areas in the world tote unique honey — red mad honey can be found in Turkey and Nepal — the purple honey is distinct to North Carolina.

Rick Ross’ private jet reportedly made a crash landing in Dallas on Friday and the “Hustlin’” rapper is blaming Drake for the ordeal amid their ongoing feud.
“My jet just crashed ; Drake OvO F16 fighter jet just shot us down 🔥🔥,” Ross, 48, wrote via X Friday.
The “Stay Schemin’” rapper then said via his Instagram Stories, “We on the jet and I’m seeing the fighter jet, I see its nose. It’s like Tom Cruise from ‘Top Gun’” before thanking everyone for the prayers.
“I seen its nose. I’m seeing him in the cockpit and I’m like, ‘damn.’ I see its cheeks going back from the G-force,” he further claimed. “And then it happened, I can’t say what happened, but it happened.”

AstraZeneca has denied the allegations, but admitted in documents filed in February that the vaccine can cause a complication called Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), which causes blood clots and low blood platelet counts.
“It is admitted that the AZ vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause TTS. The causal mechanism is not known,” the company said in the filing, per the Telegraph. “Further, TTS can also occur in the absence of the AZ vaccine (or any vaccine). Causation in any individual case will be a matter for expert evidence.”

Family members celebrated the admittance, but said it was a long time coming, because other scientists have found a connection between COVID-19 vaccines and the blood-clotting side effect since 2021. Blood clots from the vaccine are called “vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis,” (VITT) which lawyers claim is a subset of TTS.

A dam collapsed in western Kenya early Monday, killing at least 40 people after a wall of water swept through houses and cut off a major road, police said.

The Old Kijabe Dam, located in the Mai Mahiu area of the Great Rift Valley region that is prone to flash floods, collapsed and water spilled downstream, police official Stephen Kirui told The Associated Press.

Ongoing rains in Kenya have caused flooding that has already killed nearly 100 people and caused the opening of schools to be postponed.

Iraqi social media star Ghufran Sawadi, better known as Umm Fahad, was shot dead outside her home in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, a Baghdad police source told CNN.

The attack was captured on video by a surveillance camera and shared on social media. The video shows a gunman riding a motorcycle shooting and killing Sawadi on the spot. A Baghdad police source confirmed the authenticity of the video to CNN.

The country’s Interior Minister announced that it was “forming a specialized work team to find out the circumstances of the killing of a woman known on social media by unknown assailants.”

Other Iraqi social media personalities have previously been targeted in deadly attacks.

Rapper Young Thug has essentially lived behind bars since his arrest in May 2022. He is driven 20 miles from his jail cell to the courthouse every weekday morning, to bear silent witness to one of the most complex racketeering cases in Georgia’s history.

Thug was one of 28 people arrested. An 88-page indictment lays out the government’s case that they operated as a gang called Young Slime Life — which prosecutors noted bore the same initials as Thug’s music label, Young Stoner Life.

Legal experts told The Post that it is unconventional that Thug and his co-defendants are being prosecuted under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

RICO laws allow prosecutors to dismantle entire criminal organizations, from the street level to the top. But RICO cases are also notoriously massive, complicated and unwieldy, creating opportunity for disruptions and delays — all on ample display during this case’s long windup.

Trump will be entitled to the stock bonus under the terms of the S**C deal once TMTG’s shares stay above $17.50 for 20 trading days following the company’s March 26 listing. They ended trading on Monday at $35.50, and they would have to lose more than half their value on Tuesday for Trump to miss out.
TMTG’s current valuation of approximately $5 billion is equivalent to about 1,220 times the loss-making company’s revenue in 2023 of $4.1 million.

Protesters chanted “Blood on your hands” at Tennessee House Republicans after they passed a bill that would allow some teachers and staff to carry concealed handguns on public school grounds, and bar parents and other teachers from knowing who was armed.

The 68-28 vote in favor of the bill sent it to Republican Gov. Bill Lee for consideration. If he signs it into law, it would be the biggest expansion of gun access in the state since last year’s deadly shooting at a private elementary school in Nashville.

Members of the public who oppose the bill harangued Republican lawmakers after the vote, leading House Speaker Cameron Sexton to order the galleries cleared.

Four House Republicans and all Democrats opposed the bill, which the state Senate previously passed. The measure would bar disclosing which employees are carrying guns beyond school administrators and police, including to students’ parents and even other teachers. A principal, school district and law enforcement agency would have to agree to let staff carry guns.

Congress has passed legislation to ban or force a sale of TikTok, delivering a historic rebuke of the video-sharing platform’s Chinese ownership after years of failed attempts to tackle the app’s alleged national security risks.

The Senate passed the bill, 79-18, as part of a sprawling package offering aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan after the House passed it Saturday. President Biden has endorsed the foreign aid package and said he would sign the TikTok bill, meaning it is expected to soon become law.

Once signed, it would give TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, roughly nine months to sell the app or face a national ban, a deadline Biden could extend by 90 days.

TikTok is expected to challenge the bill, setting up a high-stakes and potentially lengthy legal battle that will test the company’s argument that any such law would violate the free speech rights of millions.

A former cameraman for rap star Megan Thee Stallion is suing her for harassment and for creating a “hostile, abusive work environment,” according to documents obtained by NBC News. Emilio Garcia told NBC that he worked for the star, whose real name is Megan Pete, starting in 2018 through June 2023.
Megan denied the allegations soon after, with her attorney, Alex Spiro, telling Page Six: “This is an employment claim for money — with no s*xual harassment claim filed and with salacious accusations to attempt to embarrass her. We will deal with this in court.”
Garcia alleged that things went downhill for him after he was forced to watch Pete have s*x while trapped inside a moving vehicle with her and an unidentified woman in 2022, after he accompanied the star to Ibiza, Spain.

The Supreme Court is considering whether banning people from sleeping outside when space at shelters is lacking amounts to cruel and unusual punishment. The case is considered the most significant to come before the high court in decades on homelessness.

In California and other Western states, courts have ruled that it’s unconstitutional to fine and arrest people sleeping in homeless encampments if shelter space is lacking. A cross-section of Democratic and Republican officials contend that makes it difficult for them to manage encampments, which can have dangerous and unsanitary living conditions.

But hundreds of advocacy groups argue that allowing cities to punish people who need a place to sleep will criminalize homelessness and ultimately make the crisis worse as the cost of housing increases.

The case comes from the rural Oregon town of Grants Pass, which started fining people $295 for sleeping outside to manage homeless encampments that sprung up in the city’s public parks as the cost of housing escalated.

The pop star’s 11th studio album raked in a stunning 300 million streams in a single day on Friday on Spotify alone, becoming the most-streamed album in a single day in just 12 hours.

Amazon and Apple also said Swift’s album broke records across their respective streaming platforms.

Instagram, owned by Meta, created its reels feature in 2020 to compete with TikTok’s rise in popularity, and now, TikTok appears to be preparing to launch a photo and text app to compete with Instagram.

The news began leaking last month when some TikTok users took to Reddit to share screenshots of notifications they had been receiving on the upcoming launch.

Dexter Reed’s mother remembers the last time she saw her son alive. “Mom, I’m going for a ride,” he told her, before heading out in the car that he had purchased just three days earlier.

Reed, 26, was killed that same day, when tactical-unit police officers fired 96 bullets at him within 41 seconds, according to Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability, or COPA, which investigates allegations of police misconduct and police shootings. “He was just riding around in his car,” Dexter’s mother, Nicole Banks, told Fox 32 Chicago on Tuesday, as she broke down in tears. “They killed him.”

COPA released video footage of the shooting Tuesday and said its investigation of the “officers’ use of deadly force” on March 21 remains ongoing. The Chicago Police Department told CNN that it was cooperating with COPA’s investigation and that it “cannot make a determination on this shooting until all the facts are known and this investigation has concluded.” The department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Washington Post.

Disney will soon change its policies for theme park visitors with disabilities, restricting eligibility for services that help some people avoid waiting in line for rides.

The updates have created a wave of uncertainty among fans, who are left wondering whether they’ll be able to continue using the disability access service known as DAS.

The shift comes as Disney acknowledges that some customers have misused the program. According to Disney, disability access has become the most widely requested service at the parks, with use more than tripling over the past five years.

The changes at the Florida and California theme parks include updates on who is allowed to use DAS, how many people can join them in receiving benefits, how to apply for it and ways they can use it.

Disney warns — as it did before — that there are steep consequences for making false statements to get the disability service.

“The Guest will be permanently barred from entering Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort, and any previously purchased Annual Passes, Magic Key passes, tickets and other park products and services will be forfeited and not refunded,” the website says.

Kendrick Lamar’s long-gestating film project with South Park‘s Trey Parker and Matt Stone now has a theatrical release date at Paramount.

Variety reports that the project by Lamar, Dave Free, Parker and Stone will come to theaters July 4, 2025. Paramount CEO Brian Robbins, who announced the film during CinemaCon, called the script “one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks.”
Plot details originally reported by Shadow and Act in 2022 have been changed in the time between then and now. Now, the film is simply being described by Paramount to Shadow and Act as a “live-action comedy.” Variety also reports an update since their last report, stating that Paramount told them that the film has the “involvement of top-shelf talent.”
Production on the film with its original plotline was originally set to start in the spring of 2022, with Lamar and Free producing via pgLang and Parker and Stone producing via Park County. Robbins also had glowing things to say about the project back in 2022, saying at the time how Paramount and ViacomCBS were excited to usher in “the first theatrical collaboration from these creative visionaries, and galvanizing audiences worldwide around a powerful storytelling experience.”

In a move that officials touted as the most significant increase in American gun regulation in decades, the Justice Department has finalized rules to close a loophole that allowed people to sell fi****ms online, at gun shows and at other informal venues without conducting background checks on those who purchase them.

Vice President Harris and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland celebrated the rules and said they would keep fi****ms out of the hands of potentially violent people who are not legally allowed to own guns.

Many of Biden’s gun-control efforts have been challenged by conservative groups in court. These regulations are likely to face that same opposition, though White House and Justice Department officials said they are confident the rules align with the law and will withstand any legal challenges.

Scientists could be a step closer to solving the mystery of how the surface of the moon got its weathered and cratered appearance, after the discovery of unique minerals in lunar soil samples collected by the Chang’e 5 mission.
Titanium compounds, including Ti2O, which have never been seen in natural samples on Earth, were found on the surface of a tiny glass bead brought back by China’s Chang’e 5 spacecraft in 2020, according to researchers from the Institute of Geochemistry in Guiyang and their colleagues in Guangzhou and Macau.
The minerals had probably formed as a result of intense vaporisation and deposition - the transition of gas into solid without passing through the liquid phase - triggered by the constant, powerful bombardment of micrometeorites from space, the team wrote in the journal Nature Astronomy last week.

Among other celeb billionaires who made the cut – including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas – Swift was ranked at No. 14 with a net worth of $1.1 billion.

Swift made history with her economic achievement. The “Blank Space” singer is the first person to reach billionaire status “based solely on songwriting and performing,” according to Forbes.

A statement, released on Friday, said: “We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combsassaulting a young woman in Los Angeles. We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. “If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted. “As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services.” The incident allegedly took place in 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel in the Century City area of Los Angeles. WSB-TV reports the incident happened in December 2023 when a Greenville police officer stopped 30-year-old Corriyon Bray for speeding. The bodycam footage shows the officer handing Bray the traffic citation and a pen to sign. After Bray signs the ticket, he keeps the pen and drives off. The officer is heard yelling after Bray to give him his pen back. “That mother (expletive). He stole my (expletive) pen!” the officer shouted in the video obtained by WSB-TV. The officer, alongside a Meriwether County sheriff’s deputy, followed Bray to his home and met Bray outside where the officer demanded the pen. “Give me my pen, then you’re going to jail,” the officer tells Bray. “I don’t have your pen,” Bray shouts back. “Give it to me, or I’m going to Tase you,” the officer says on camera. The officer unholsters his Taser and points it at Bray. Moments later, the officer Tasers Bray while a deputy forces him to the ground. “I can’t feel my leg bro,” Bray said as the deputy pinned him down. Bray was arrested and taken into custody. Police charged him with obstruction and theft by taking. “If he had complied, none of this would have happened,” Greenville Police Chief Wayne Frazier said. “Our SOP says verbal, hands-on, less lethal, and lethal, and he followed protocol.” When Frazier was asked whether the cop should have tasered Bray, Frazier said, “Well I can’t answer that because I wasn’t there.” Bray told WSB-TV that his leg was broken in two places during the encounter and he’s still experiencing pain nearly five months after the night of that traffic stop. “I think it was about trying to show authority.
