A child’s footprint on a California beach; She had the time to line the footsteps deliberately. When can a child in Gaza do the same? The beaches witness it all. Do the beaches of the west comfort those in the east? I know the earth supplicates for the Palestinians. How can it not when it spreads its whole being to receive our bowing in prayer and their dead? All the while it marvels at Palestinians’ resilience: laughter, care for one another, love, hope, faith and trust in Allah all while also carrying unbearable pain.
Because all the earth can do is plead daily to Allah for permission to swallow the oppressors into its depth. And it must rumble with the unmet desire but breaks its ego for its creator. It must find comfort in the knowledge that itself is a pale reflection of its heavenly counterpart who receives these angles and takes them from a world that cannot contain their light to one full of light and comfort.
