Turkish crypto boss, brothers bag 11,196 years in prison for fraud, others

A 'disgraced' Turkish crypto founder who fled to Albania and his two brothers have been sentenced to 11,196 years in jail each, the Anadolu state news agency reported on Friday.

Prosecutors had asked for Thodex boss Faruk Fatih Ozer, 29, to be sentenced to 40,562 years in prison for money laundering, fraud and establishing a criminal organisation.

“If I were to establish a criminal organisation, I would not have acted so amateurishly,” Anadolu quoted Ozer as telling the court.

His two brothers, Serap and Guven, received the same sentence, which was issued late Thursday after a brief trial, Turkish media reports said.

Turkey is known for issuing massive prison sentences, which became more common after it abolished the death penalty in 2004 to help its efforts to join the European Union.

Ozer was initially reported to have fled Turkey in April 2021 with $2 billion in investor assets, although that figure has since been disputed.

Prosecutors said Ozer had transferred 250 million liras in user assets (worth about $30 million at the time) to three secret accounts when he fled Turkey in April 2021, with much of the money ending up in a Malta bank.

The indictment said the Ozer brothers had caused 356 million liras of damage to clients in all.

The case grabbed local headlines because it coincided with a Turkish crypto boom that has since largely subsided due to heavier government regulation.

Turks began turning to various cryptocurrencies as a defence against a deep slide in the value of the lira that began more than two years ago.

Ozer gained further celebrity status after being pictured meeting with ultranationalist pro-government figures.
He was arrested last year in Albania on an international arrest warrant from Interpol.

Three Children Of Same Parents Found Dead Inside Landlord’s Jeep In Lagos 😭😭😭😭😭

Three children of the same parents have been found dead inside their landlord’s Toyota RAV4 in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The victims, Uche (three), Marvelous (five) and Lazarus (eight), all children of one Mr Osondu, were said to be playing inside the compound when they entered the jeep and suffocated.

A witness said the children were playing with their cousin, identified as Blessing (11), around 11am on Tuesday inside the compound before they entered the RAV4.

He said nobody could tell why Blessing, who was the most senior, did not enter the car and also failed to raise alarm when she discovered that her cousins had been trapped inside the car.

Some neighbours said Blessing failed to raise alarm out of fear of being flogged for venturing into the area.

It was learnt that a mob descended on the landlord and beat him until he was rescued by policemen.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said that the Officer in Charge (O/C) Police Family Support Unit (FSU) got a distress call from anonymous callers of a suspected Sudden and Unnatural Death (SUD) by suffocation of under-aged children.

He said a patrol team and FSU personnel moved to the scene where they met a crowd that besieged the residence of one Moses in Ikorodu.

He further said, “The father of the deceased children said he was from Izii community in Ebonyi State and a tenant at the aforementioned address. The children were playing with their cousin, one Blessing Hyacinth, a girl of about 11 years, a foster daughter to Mr Osondu, at about 11am inside the landlord’s RAV4 SUV parked in a fenced and gated compound.

“One of them inadvertently pressed the central lock button of the vehicle and it ended up locking the trio till they got suffocated. The three children were taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by medics and their corpses deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy in the presence of their father.

“The landlord was brought to the station for protective custody and the RAV4 SUV was taken to the station for safekeeping too.’’

Chinmark's Spiritual Pastor, Timothy Benedict Who Helped Lauder Victims Money Arrested by Police.

Pastor Timothy Benedict, Chimark’s spiritual mentor, has been arrested by men of the Nigerian police.

He was arrested yesterday.

He is currently in custody after a petition written by Chinmark victims was received by our law enforcement agency.

Victims' money was traced to his bank accounts, and he was alleged to have helped Chimark launder victims' money as well.

He will be charged to court soon.

2) The surety that stood as a guarantor for Chinmark when he was arrested earlier this year was also picked up at the same time.

He is currently singing like a canary bird, telling the crack detectives about what he knew about Chimark’s heist.

3) The Queen of Ponzi scheme, Amanda Chisom, was at the Interpol office last week where she was questioned again on what she knew about the Chinmark heist with the fresh allegations that she was all over the place discouraging victims from pursuing forensic investigation via the security agencies, especially the Interpol, alleging that they are compromised and corrupt.

All in a bid from distracting the victims from pursing the money traced to her.

4) The people behind this arrest and the travails of Chimark’s spiritual mentor' are the same people who orchestrated the arrest of Amanda Chisom earlier this year.

We can accuse them of so many things, but one thing we can’t accuse them of is the fact that they are short on courage.

In my many interactions with them, especially the figurehead of the group, one thing stands out for me:

They are not ready to rest on their oars till they recover their money, taken from them by Chinmark.

Till justice is done in this matter.

This is the promise they made to themselves.

JUST IN: Court Stops Banks From Releasing Funds Linked To Chinmark Group

The Lagos State High Court sitting in Osborne, Ikoyi has granted an order of Mareva injunction restraining all commercial banks in the country from releasing or dealing in any manner with any money or assets due to Chinmark Group Limited and three others.

The court granted the order up to the amount of N246,610,000 (two hundred and forty-six million, six hundred and ten thousand naira) being the outstanding investments and return on investments accruing to the applicants from the defendants as of the December 30, 2021.

The claimants/applicants in the suit are Stephanie Ohuche, Okonkwo Blessing, Oliver Njoku and Livinus Chinamere who are suing on behalf of themselves and 76 other investors of Chinmark Group Ltd.

They had dragged the defendants, Chinmark Group Ltd, FinAfrica Invest Ltd (the company peddled as the investment arm of Chinmark Group), the chief executive officer of both companies, Ijiomah Marksman Chinedu and his wife, Marksman Uhunoma Trinity before the Lagos High Court sitting in Osborne, Ikoyi over allegations of a failed Ponzi scheme.

The claimants accused Ijiomah and the other three defendants of using the investment scheme to dupe thousands of Nigerians of their hard-earned money to the tune of over N20 billion naira without any intention to restitute or pay the same back.

Justice Kudirat Jose listened to the exparte application of the counsel for the claimants, Adetunji Adedoyin-Adeniyi, and restrained the affected banks from releasing or dealing with any monies and/or assets due to the defendants from any account maintained by all the affected banks.

The affected banks are Guaranty Trust Bank Limited, Access Bank Plc, Citi Bank Nigeria Limited, Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, First Bank Of Nigeria Limited, First City Monument Bank Plc, Globus Bank, Heritage Bank Limited, Jaiz Bank, Keystone Bank Limited, Polaris Bank Limited, Providus Bank, Stanbic Ibtc Bank Nigeria Limited, Standard Chartered Bank, Stering Bank Plc, Union Bank Of Nigeria Plc, United Bank For Africa Plc, Unity Bank Plc, Wema Bank Plc And Zenith Bank Plc.

The court also ordered the banks who are holding the funds or assets of all the defendants to file an affidavit before the court to show the balance of the 1st , 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants accounts.

For Banks who are not holding any of the defendants’ accounts, the court held that it shall suffice if they send in a letter to the court and the claimant’s counsel saying that they are not holding any such funds or assets.

The court also granted leave to the claimants to serve their Originating Summons and other relevant documents with accompanying exhibits, the Motion on Notice for Mareva injunction; and all other processes that may be issued in the suit on the 3rd and 4th Defendants by way of substituted service; which entails pasting same on the 3rd and 4th Defendants’ last known address in the Ogba area of Ikeja Lagos.

Justice Jose however refused to grant an order restraining the defendants from selling, transferring, assigning and or dealing with any property that can be traced and located by the claimants during the pendency of the suit. The court held that no particular property was mentioned by the claimants.
