Inside the most expensive primary school in Nigeria

School fee — N42million (per annum)

Registration/admission fee — N2million
(Day and boarding)

Location: Ogombo Road, Ogombo, Lekki, Lagos

Charterhouse is a UK public school founded 413 years ago.

On why they charge 42 million per annum, let’s hear the school as they explain

“Charterhouse is not just like every other school anywhere globally but a prestigious and value-driven world-class educational institution that parents, who love quality and second to none education will always want their children to be.”

Reportedly speaking further, “Some parents are here in Nigeria and some based abroad. And they know the quality of education we will give to their children. It is about value and not whether the fees is high or not.

“They know it will cost them more if they are to send their children abroad and get the same quality and value we will give them here in Nigeria. The foreign exchange and the associated costs as well as nearness.

“Even though, we are yet to commence academic activities and we have not also done with our construction works, no school in Nigeria has the facilities we have already put in place.

“And it is not all about physical structures in Charterhouse, but also about quality, both academic and extra-curriculum, and value for our learners.

“Schooling in Charterhouse Lagos will be the same as in Charterhouse UK or any other high-profile UK-based school. The only difference is that the Chaterhouse here will be immersed in the Nigerian culture thereby giving our students the best of British education in a multicultural environment.

“So, we are not just any other school, and many prominent Nigerians, who are either products of Charterhouse or have any of their children or relations attended the school in the UK are very glad that Charterhouse is now here in Lagos Nigeria.

“Even here in Lagos, there are some schools, for example, that charge in millions of Naira per annum while some in hundreds of thousands and yet some others charge something lesser.

“So, it is now left for parents to decide which one to enrol their children based on the value they want and their purse.

“We are building on 70 hectares of land in Lekki and it will cost us over $150 million at completion and that is why we are very sure that by the time we are done, people will appreciate us better.”

✍️

Ahebi Ugbabe was a pr******te and businesswoman from Enugu-Ezike who later became the only female king in British-Nigeria.

Ugbabe, who was the first and last king of Enugu-Ezike, ruled her people for 30 years until her death in 1948. She was 68.

King Ahebi Ugbabe could speak Igbo, Igala, Nupe, and Pidgin English. Thus, she held court cases in her palace while making money from the services. Women who had also been abused by their husbands escaped to Ugbabe’s palace, who then became their female husband.

Ahebi Ugbabe married wives for herself...by paying their bride price. She then looked for men who had in*******se with these wives and claimed the paternity of the children they bore. She assumed the role of a man and named the children after herself.

With the fear that her people might not accord her a rightful burial, Ahebi Ugbabe performed her own funeral rites in 1946, two years before her death.

"The Absent Father Effect on Daughters" by Susan E. Schwartz delves into the profound impact that the absence of a father can have on a daughter's development, identity, and emotional well-being. Through a psychological lens, Schwartz explores how this absence—whether physical, emotional, or both—affects daughters and shapes their adult lives.

Here are several key lessons from the book

1. Understanding the Impact of Absence: The book highlights the importance of recognizing the depth and breadth of the impact an absent father can have on a daughter's psyche. This absence can manifest in various aspects of life, including issues with self-esteem, difficulties in forming healthy relationships, and challenges in understanding one's identity.

2. The Role of Recognition and Acknowledgment: A vital step in addressing the effects of an absent father is the acknowledgment of his absence and its impact. Recognizing these effects allows for the beginning of healing and provides a framework for understanding behaviors and emotions that may have been confusing or painful.

3. Navigating the Path to Healing: Schwartz offers insights into the healing process, emphasizing that while the journey is personal and can be challenging, it is also filled with opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Healing may involve therapy, creating supportive relationships, and engaging in self-care practices.

4. The Importance of External Support Systems: The book suggests that building a strong support system is crucial for daughters dealing with the absence of a father. This support can come from other family members, friends, mentors, or professional counselors who can provide understanding, validation, and guidance.

5. Exploring One's Identity Beyond Absence: One of the lessons is the encouragement for daughters to explore and define their identity independently of the father's absence. This exploration can lead to a more robust sense of self and a reclamation of power over one's life narrative.

6. Developing Healthy Relationships: Schwartz discusses the impact of an absent father on a daughter's relationships, particularly in choosing partners and establishing boundaries. The book offers strategies for understanding and breaking patterns that may lead to unhealthy relationship choices.

7. The Power of Narrative: There's a focus on the power of personal narrative and storytelling in healing. By reframing their stories, daughters can find meaning in their experiences and move towards a more empowered and self-aware future.

8. The Role of Forgiveness: The concept of forgiveness, both of oneself and the absent father, is explored as a potential component of healing. Forgiveness is presented not as an obligation but as a choice that can lead to emotional freedom.

9. Empowerment through Understanding: Gaining insight into the ways in which an absent father has influenced one's life can be incredibly empowering. It allows for a reclaiming of control over one's emotional well-being and life decisions.

10. The Continuum of Absence: Schwartz acknowledges that absence can vary in degree and type, affecting daughters in uniquely individual ways. Understanding this spectrum is crucial in addressing and healing from its effects personally and sensitively.

"The Absent Father Effect on Daughters" is a comprehensive guide to understanding and healing from the complex dynamics of growing up without a father's presence. It provides valuable insights and practical advice for those looking to navigate the challenges and find a path toward healing and fulfillment.

"My marriage is slipping away from me " Ay accept .
.....
Many people believe that staying silent simply means that one is incapable of dealing with issues. Projecting a negative narrative against someone who is not struggling to defend himself doesn't mean he is weak. Some of us are just logical enough to understand the difference between opinions, values, beliefs, and facts.

The personality and ability that I possess simply confirm that i have reached that stage in my life where I can not be entertaining the public with deep personal family issues. They just might be too much to handle concerning the individuals involved. Not even when I have a grown-up daughter who has access to social media. Her mental health needs to be protected from seeing things she can not be proud of online.

Yes! Without compromising my family, i have found myself doing some things that i am not proud of today. It is one thing to watch my friendship/ marriage of 20 years slip off my hands, but it's another thing for the parties involved to understand how to appropriate the blames in a space that is designed for most women to always play the victims and win. I can tell you for free that no one is completely INNOCENT enough to cast stones.

Presently, i am loving the way that lies about me in all these blogs are traveling faster than the truth. But my painful truth will eventually b£at away all the lies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you're a lady doing well for yourself, some men will come to you just so they can trade in on your wealth, connections or social capital.

They want to use you to make themselves popular and/or wealthy. So they attach themselves to you, profess love, treat you right, say they don't want to hide you, etc.
You agree and start posting them and small small online and like play, the nobody turns into a somebody because of you and your connections.

If you have more influence offline, you introduce them to people and they start trading in on the goodwill people have for you. Doors that would otherwise be shut start opening nwayo nwayo for them.

We see it happen to celebs. These nonentities attach themselves to popular women and become celebs by attachment. Who knew Mr Korra, Mr Nkechi Blessing, Mr Churchill before they attached themselves to these women?

The women in a bid to beef up their partners' image start lying about how much of a great guy he is. They start giving the men credit for things they didn't do. They start buying cars, houses, plane tickets and saying the man did it.

But don't think this happens only to popular celebs.
NO!

Even on this our Facebook it happens. It also happens in real life where the woman isn't necessarily a celeb or uber rich. She's just comfortable in her right. She could be a school teacher or banker, it doesn't matter.

Men below their economic status will find them and date them just so they can cash in on the woman's connections or influence.

What do you do then?

1. Protect your brand, your image, your personal life. If your influence or popularity is online, don't be tricked into posting the person because they said "I want the world to know I love you. I don't want to hide our love".
Upeketem.
The more posts you make about him, the more you're putting your brand on the line for his brand. You're acting like a guarantor for a loan you're not yet sure he'll pay.
If your popularity/influence is offline, be wary of the businesses, families, friends, colleagues you introduce him to.

2. Also, know when you're about to be used. NBS said her ex would ask her to go to her colleagues to ask for money for his foundation. That she should ask them to do free videos for his business. Videos that these celebs charge for.
See what I said about using your social capital? He fit no collect 1 naira directly from you but he'll indirectly collect things worth millions. Know when you're about to be used and say no.
Like when Churchill made Tonto pay for her own bride price, her entire wedding and even their asoebi with "I'm in Ghana, once I come into Nigeria I'll settle you". Till today what happened?
This also applies to normal relationships. I had a friend whose bf kept on pressurising her to ask me to make an ad post for his business. He knew I charged for it but didn't want to pay. He knew I'd do it for free if my friend asked me. "Babe ask her na. She'll post it if you ask her".
Know when you're about to be used.

3. Be sure he does something tangible for a living. This one is hard cos these men come with badass packaging that you won't know he has nothing till you're 10 feet in.
They present themselves as well-to-do or comfortable but you won't know they aren't all that till you've fallen for them. By that time you find out, you are gingered to "help". AKA start fending for a grown man.
So be sure he's doing something. But Tonto and NBS said they didn't know what their men do for a living. The guys are jobless. Before you judge them, that your own bf that told you he works offshore, you don follow am go office? How sure are you that it's not yahoo e dey do. People lie. You won't know till you enter.

4. In your bid to make people like him or whatever, never ever give these men glory for something you did yourself. I will never understand ladies that do something for themselves and run to tell the world a man did it for them. Why?
What was the reason?👏👏👏👏👏

And it's only women that do this. No matter how much a man loves you, he'll never buy a car for himself and rush to the gram to say his girl did it for him. Never.
When NBS lost her mum, she posted he paid for her flight abroad so she'd come "cry on his shoulder". As dem don breakup, she's saying she paid for it. Her house, gifts, plenty things she led people to believe were from him. Tonto too.

See eh, don't do it.

5. If you fall mugu, don't keep on staying cos of world people. Or cos your late mama or late grandpa asked you to stay before they died. Run. Run for the hills.
A lot of the women mocking NBS and Tonto are in it themselves but shame no go gree them leave. I have aunts like that. I know plenty marriages like that. But na dem go mock Tonto pass.
If you fall, learn your mistakes and leave immediately.

Shout out to NBS, Korra, Tonto and all the women who left instead of staying and doing patchy patchy. E better make dem laugh you for SM than you live a life of depression and horror.

Two women got engaged.

One party, Uju Anya, said she was asked to be the wife, and she said yes.

Wife to who?

A fellow woman

How did they even decide who among them was the man and the other person was the wife?

I thought they both have vaginas and breasts, so how come?

I just dusted my biology text book to read about gender again.

Maybe my old biology teacher at DMGS made a mistake.

I’m confused by the onslaught of liberals and woke people assaulting our civilization and how they are forcing us to accept this abnormality.

How do we arrive at the conclusion that it is normal for a woman to propose to a woman?

Regardless, congratulations to Prof. Uju Anya and her husband.

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗔 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝟮.𝟮/𝟯𝗥𝗗 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦/𝗛𝗡𝗗

In US Universities, it is possible to win fully funded scholarships via GTA/GRA/GA with your low CGPA or Higher National Diploma (HND). In 2022, Ms Islamiyat Adenike Ojelade, an HND holder who got 7 fully-funded PhD offers 7 top US universities.
While it is possible to achieve a similar feat with your HND or low CGPA the following are the six things you should do.

1. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.
To stand a chance with your HND result in the US, you need the following;
- WES evaluation: This evaluates your HND to find it's equivalence in the US grading System.
- TOEFL - A language Test
- GRE - A requirement for PG Programmes in the US

𝟮.𝟬. 𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁
Your HND in Chemistry, Physics, Accounting, Engineering is not what gets you a consideration in PG school but your particular area of interest. Take Chemistry for instance, the following are possible research interest, Organic and Medicinal Chemistry, Petroleum chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry etc. You need to find this interest, read up a number of literatures about it and get fully aware of its potential, prospect and application in the society. Note that in the course of making your applications, your vast knowledge of your research interest will be an advantage.

𝟯.𝟬. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁
Using Twitter, LinkedIn, Google etc find professors in the US with a similar research interest as yours. Search out their official E-mail, save them and get to Google Scholar or ResearchGate to read up some of their published works. You should note some very specific ones that aptly captures your fancy. The key to doing this right is to look out for Assistant Professors and Associates with a Laboratory for research work.

𝟰.𝟬. 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
The following are documents you need to gather up in seeking a PhD position with HND;
- Academic CV
- Unofficial Transcript
- Recommendation Letters
- Statement of Purpose/ Personal Statement
- Research Statement

𝟱.𝟬. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗹
With the E-mail of the Professors you gathered in 3.0 above, send out cold mails. You cold mail should state categorically what you seek, your strength, interest and willingness to join the Professors research group. You will necessarily attached your CV, Transcript and Research Statement (as one PDF) to your cold mail.

If this mail hit the right targets, you will get replies directing you to apply for the PhD programme in the Professor's University. In most cases, the Professor will ask you to mention you've contacted him/her prior to submitting an application.

Do well to share this to Scholarship Hopefuls who are in dilemma of what to do with their CGPAs
