Mayor and Hero, Vicki Jellie, shares the story of how she met her late husband, Peter Jellie, and his loss to cancer she found his plans to raise money to help bring cancer treatment to the Warrnambool area.
By beginning Peter's Project, Vicki and other locals banded together to raise money through many functions and initiatives and were amazed at how the Warrnambool and surrounding community got on board to create their own fundraisers.
From there, they lobbied with local and state government for funding and in the end end, raised and built a $30 million dollar centre, the South West Cancer Centre, located in Warrnambool.
This is a story of determination, community and love and it is with tremendous gratitude that we have recorded this incredible triumph for prosperity so that future generations know how this incredible service came to be in Warrnambool.
It is no wonder that Vicki Jellie became the Mayor of Warrnambool years later as she is a trusted public figure, an approachable leader and a down to earth woman who is thankful for her beloved community.
