Over the top pull cuts to draws. Here is how ⬇️
This player initially started off hitting a lot of over the top low pulls or hard cuts/slices. He has a ton of speed (able to hit 7 iron up to 190 yards) but couldn’t control it. These are the changes we made.
Slide 2: Spine position at set up, he was too upright without any tilt away from the target. This lead too…
Slide 3: His shoulder turn would work very steep and arms would lift. This put him in a position where he had limited hand depth which is a recipe for coming over the top. By adding spinal tilt and flattening the shoulder turn this improved his depth which…
Slide 4: allowed the hands and the club to stay more behind him rather than over the top. He would still have a tendency to get steep despite the improved backswing so this is where we go to the face on views.
Slide 5: even though the backswing was better he had a tendency to get the chest spinning open too quickly. This resulted in the upper body getting ahead and him pulling the hands in front. To mitigate this he worked on feeling like the hips worked forward in transition to stay in front of the upper body.
Slide 6: you can see a huge difference in hip/spine position. On the right side the hips are leading the way, upper body remains tilted away from the target, and the upper body is more closed.
This all shifted his path from 6-7 degree left to 2-4 degrees right 👌🏼. These changes occurred over two lessons.
