We had the pleasure of spending some time with the 8-time Kusko 300 champ and 2019 Iditarod winner - Pete Kaiser. He's raced the last 15 Iditarod's, coming out of Bethel, Alaska - where he was born and raised. His hometown in southwest Alaska is hundreds of miles from the main road system. Hope y'all enjoy our talk with Pete because we had a blast!

We were privileged enough to have Iditarod veteran Ben Good sit down with us for over an hour. Ben was the only 2024 rookie who had completed the thousand mile Yukon Quest. He talks about the differenmces of those two expeditions and did a start to finish recap of his first trip to Nome. Good Alaska Mushing is based out of North Pole, Alaska - enjoy!

Our first episode post Iditarod with a guest - and this time there's two guests: our intro includes coverage of the Kobuk 440 and with Sean out on a week long adventure, we got Joseph O'Keefe to join Brendan for a breakdown of the Kobuk.

As for our interview, Brendan and Sean get back on track with a guest on the show. Sean Williams is from Chugiak, AK - a small community between Anchorage and the Mat-Su valley. Sean participated in 2 of the last 3 Iditarods and is a multi-time finisher of the Copper Basin 300 and other mid distance races in Alaska, some of which aren't around anymore. He also created a new website for the mushing community called sleddogtalk.com. This episode might be a two (or more) parter folks, enjoy!

Enjoy this picture from Sean's perspective working with the Iditarod Insider. Here he snapped a picture of Paige Drobny from Squid Acres Kennel in Nulato feeding her team snacks. She came into the checkpoint in the Top 5 with one of the fastest run times. The dogs enjoyed a luxurious nap in the sun. Congrats to Paige and her team!

🎥 Exciting News! 🎥 Join us live on Saturday at 9AM Alaska/1PM EST!

Our next YouTube live guest is none other than Josh McNeal, a 2-time Iditarod veteran who unfortunately had a season-ending shoulder injury. Despite missing this year's Iditarod, Josh found a silver lining by having musher Wally Robinson run his dogs while he recovers. We had a blast with Josh on our podcast earlier this season, and we can't wait to welcome him back. 🐾

Sean and I just finished our first "live" for the 2024 Iditarod. We didn't promote it because it was our first live in almost a year, so it was more of a dry run. Nevertheless, check us out as we cover pre-race logistics, rules, route, weather, and a few other topics. Watch all of it, watch some of it, or watch none of it - but here it is!

This week we had Mats Pettersson on to talk about all his years running the Iditarod and coming all the way from Sweden with his 16 dog team each time. He compared and contrasted the races in Scandinavia with the mushing scene here. Mats lives hundreds of kilometers above the arctic circle and has been a big part of the sled dog world for about two decades. We had a great time chatting with him and hope you all enjoy!

This is our last episode until after the Iditarod finishes. Our Iditarod coverage will be on YouTube, make sure you are following us there!

🐾 Exciting News for Iditarod Fans! 🐾

As the Iditarod approaches, we have a special announcement to make! This year Sean will be working closely with the "Iditarod Insider," which means he'll be busy behind the scenes and unable to provide his usual race analysis on our podcast.

But not to worry - to ensure you don't miss out on any of the thrilling Iditarod action, Brendan will be hosting a daily live YouTube analysis and breakdown of the race! In Sean's absence, we're thrilled to announce that we'll be inviting Iditarod veterans to join Brendan in dissecting all the excitement and drama of the Last Great Race on Earth.

Get ready for in-depth insights, expert analysis, and engaging discussions as we bring you closer to the heart of the Iditarod. Stay tuned for more updates, make sure you are subscribed to us on YouTube and mark your calendars for our daily live YouTube sessions during the race!

Josi Thyr (pronounced TEAR, like teardrop) from There & Back Again Sleddogs has made a big splash in the Alaska mid distance mushing scene this winter with competitive finishes in 2 of Alaska's toughest 300 mile races. Josi, however, has been involved with the sled dog life for a couple of decades since she was a kid living in Northern Idaho. Along the way, she has worked for some great Iditarod mushers with amazing dogs and learned more than a thing or two. Now, with her own 26 dog kennel in Fairbanks, and finishing 7th in this year's Copper Basin 300 and 3rd two weeks later in the Yukon Quest Alaska, Thyr has prepared ~1500 pounds of food and gear to be flown out to the Iditarod trail in order to take on a thousand mile expedition across Alaska - she definitely seems ready, ENJOY!

Our guest this week is the owner of Mushing Malarkey kennel, Joe Taylor. He is a veteran of Iditarod, Kuskokwim 300, Copper Basin 300, Quest 300, and finished 2nd in the Two Rivers 200 and still super humble. Racing is just part of what he does with his relatively small yet diverse group of sled dogs. Joe talks about his trips in the arctic, exploring the Brooks Range in the "spring" with his team and much more.

In the intro, Sean complains to Brendan (who has a wife and kid and full time job) about feeling a bit "tired" and then ironically goes on to talk about the Yukon Quests, where it was in the -40's for most of the Alaska race. They also talk about some of the latest updates in the mushing Alaska scene, enjoy!

This week a lot was packed into our intro. We share our Kusko 300 reactions - the Bethel sled dog race had a lot of storylines in it. Also, we talked about the Yukon Quest races starting in Fairbanks and Whitehorse.

This week's guest is Jason Severs - he has been involved with the Copper Basin 300 sled dog race for 12 years and has been a race judge for the Quest 300, Willow 300, and Iditarod. He talks about moving up here from North Carolina and why he has volunteered so much of his time to the sled dog world, enjoy!

This week we got to speak with the 2024 Knik 200 Champion Emily Robinson. It was also her first 200 mile event and she's 16. That should be enough of a good reason to give this episode a listen. We honestly had a rad time talking with her and Emily and the Robinson family deserve all the success that has come their way. We also previewed this year's Kusko 300 sled dog race and it's a cold one this year, Enjoy!
