It is gulf, and situated in the Arabian Sea. In the northwest, it links with the Red Sea through the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, which is nearly 20 miles broad. It parts its name with the port city of Aden in Yemen, which constitutes the northern coast of the gulf. Historically the Gulf of Aden was familiar as “The Gulf of Berbera”, named after the old Somali port city of Berbera on the south side of the gulf.
