Pet parents get a pass - you don’t know what you don’t know. This one’s for the “pros.” I am so tired of seeing “trainers” say things like this, because if you’re taking on training clients, you should know better. Prong collars work because they are aversive. No dogs enjoy aversive tools, or else they wouldn’t work. The dog may get excited to see the collar because they understand that the collar is a cue that they get to go outside, and they like going outside. If you are telling clients that prong collars are not aversive and that dogs are excited to wear them, you’re not properly educating your clients and are doing them a disservice. ⠀⠀And if you’re a pet parent who believes your dog loves their prong collar, I am sorry that you’ve been misled and I’m happy to send you resources to learn more. ⠀⠀Signed, ⠀A pet parent sick of misinformation⠀⠀Sound credit: big.meech_ (clock app)⠀⠀⠀#Accessibility:⠀Video Text: “I know lots of dogs who love their prong collar!”⠀Video Transcript: mmm no you don’t.
