This is a superb article and well worth a read. Discussing how important it is to listen to new music and why we tend to go for the familiar sounds/songs/patterns to release that dopamine in our brains, yet when we discover NEW sounds/songs/patterns it can be more rewarding and exciting yet can potentially also be disturbing and uncomfortable!
Music makers/listeners alike should give it a read…. Perfect Sunday morning reading!

Our brains reward us for seeking out what we already know. So why should we reach to listen to something we don’t?

This interesting photo was taken in 1974 at the exact moment 5-year-old Harold Whittles, who was born deaf, hears sound for the first time.

The image was captured by photographer Jack Bradley and was published in the February 1974 edition of Reader’s Digest. The shocked expression on Harold’s face isn’t surprising. Imagine being transported from a silent world into a world of sound in an instant…

This was achieved thanks to the advancement of technology and an electronic hearing aid. Originally made from animal horns, the arrival of the telephone allowed electrical hearing aids to become a reality. People with hearing loss reported better conversations with telephones since the receiver could be held to their ear. Inventors took note of this, including Thomas Edison who had hearing loss himself.

Right then folks, I will be streaming a series of live tutorials from the 14th to 17th of July, themed as an introduction to Ableton. I'll be covering some of the basics, so it is aimed at people that are new to Ableton or just trying to find their way around with it, but could also be useful to the more seasoned user too. I'll be attempting to answer questions as we go along but shall also schedule in a dedicated Q&A session if there are loads of questions coming through and I end up with steam coming out of my ears!!

If you want a 303 emulation for acid squelchiness and want to keep it ‘in the box’, I.e software based, look no further than this. Even though I use two hardware boxes for this task, if I am out and about and just using my MacBook, this is unbeatable.
