A direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the turbulent flow around a square cylinder at Reynolds number 22000 (based on the diameter of the cylinder, D, and the inflow velocity, U). The dimensions of the computational domain are 30.5D 54Dx piD in the stream-wise, cross-stream and span-wise direction, respectively. The upstream face of the cylinder is located at 10D from the inflow and centered in the cross-stream direction. The origin of coordinates in placed at the center of the cylinder. At the inflow, a constant velocity profile, U, is prescribed and convective boundary condition are used at the outflow. The Neumann boundary condition is adopted at the cross-stream direction. Periodic boundary conditions are imposed in the span-wise direction. Finally, non-slip boundary conditions are imposed at the surface of the cylinder.

Meet new Chief Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath --

In Oct, 1994, the much awaited launch of the PSLV was delayed due to an issue in the rocket. Then, a young engineer at ISRO joined his seniors to resolve the problem. With his help, the rocket went on to perform exceedingly well. This was the first successful launch of the PSLV and that young engineer was our new chairman, Dr. Somanath.

Somanath realised his interest in space while pursuing engineering from Kerala University. His father, a hindi teacher, stood with his son in the journey with constant support.

He obtained Masters in engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, specializing in Structures, Dynamics, and Control with a . He joined VSSC in 1985 and was a team leader for the Integration of PSLV during the early phases.

His contributions in PSLV and GSLV MkIII were in their overall architecture, propulsion stages design, structural and structural dynamics designs, separation systems, vehicle integration, and integration procedures development.

India's upcoming HAL Tejas Mk-2 fighter to feature Composite radome and frontal radar signature even smaller than the Tejas Mk-1A....

Mk-2 will be a Canard-featuring Medium weight fighter with 500 kg more payload capability than the Gripen-E. Apart from sharing the delta wing design with Tejas Mk-1, Mk-2 will be totally different fighter with canards, repositioned intakes, DSI to improve stealth, a larger more powerful mission computer and 11 hardpoints compared to 10 of Gripen-E and 8 of Gripen C and Tejas Mk-1/1A enabling Mk-2 to carry more weapons. Due to the level of difference between the Mk-1/1A and Mk-2, India may even assign a unique name to the fighter instead of naming it Tejas Mk-2.

Composite Radome will help Mk-2 maintain low observability to the enemy and according to ADA, Tejas Mk2 will feature 10% smaller Radome despite incorporating an advanced Infrared search and track (IRST) system when compared to the dimensions of nose cone seen on the Tejas Mk1/1A.

A Smaller Radome on Mk2 will also help in reducing drag by >20% that in turn, will also reduce the frontal Radar cross-section of the aircraft. ADA claims that the frontal RCS of the Tejas Mk2 will be smaller than that of the Tejas Mk1A due to the optimally designed frontal fuselage and reduced nose cone in the aircraft. Mk2 will be using upgraded Uttam AESA Fire Control Radar with 992 arrays of TR modules, that is more than 780 arrays of TR modules that will be packed on the Uttam AESA version on Tejas Mk1A.

ADA confirms that the organization is working to fabricate and demonstrate a locally made Quartz Radome Nose cone for the Tejas Mk1A program also.

to the father of Indian nuclear program

"I know quite clearly what I want out of my life. Life and my emotions are the only things I am conscious of. I love the consciousness of life and I want as much of it as I can get. But the span of one's life is limited. What comes after death no one knows. Nor do I care. Since, therefore, I cannot increase the content of life by increasing its duration, I will increase it by increasing its intensity. Art, music, poetry and everything else that consciousness I do have this one purpose - increasing the intensity of my consciousness of life".

Seeing mach diamonds is pretty awesome, and looks very cool, but the reason they exist in the first place is because a pressure mismatch from nozzle exit to atmospheric pressure. This means that the nozzle expansion is inappropriately sized for delivering maximum thrust/efficiency at that pressure (altitude). This does not mean it’s not well engineered, as it does test the motor design, but maximum thrust/efficiency is not achieved. Sometimes this is actually designed in a rocket nozzle so maximum efficiency is reached at a certain altitude/pressure.

Rocket motors create a choked flow (at local sonic mach 1), and then expands the flow, but because the mass flow rate must remain constant the exhaust is accelerated to supersonic speeds. The greatest transfer of kinetic energy occurs when the exhaust pressure is equal to the atmospheric pressure (kind of, dumbing down a little seehttp://www.nakka-rocketry.net/th_nozz.html). This changes based on altitude, hence why vacuum nozzles are so much larger.

The MiG-29UPG "Baaz" [Fulcrum] was India's first fighter aircraft to feature a self protection jammer embedded in its integrated Electronic Warfare suite. ELT-568 solid state ECM pod, developed by Italian firm Elettronica, provides full-fledged protection to the platform from variety of threats in hostile environment and specially against radar guided missiles and air defence systems.

It was also the only aircraft in IAF to sport the characteristic till the introduction of SPECTRA equipped Rafale F3R(I) in 2020. Even today, except these two, all the fighter platforms in the organisation, like Mirage 2000, Su-30MKI, Tejas, MiG-21 and Jaguar carry self protection (high band/low band) jammers on external hardpoints.
