Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story - This Netflix series version of Dahmer is turning out to be one of the most interesting serial killer depictions on TV. It maintains this level of normalcy and complete disgusting absurdity at the same time. Seeing Jeff Dahmer with a father, a mother, trying to be normal and seek a place in life makes him seem so human with these horrific dark secrets.

The series has received a lot of criticism. Namely from Dahmers real victims, who were not contacted about the series making or release. And also the gay community, who see this is a disturbing and unnecessary point of view in the story. And I can personally see how this series something that could negatively effect the LGBTQ+ community. Showing off a serial killer, one of the most notorious of all time, as gay, brings a dishonoring message about the community as a whole. Which is something we don’t need when we’re fighting so hard to work towards fair representation on TV and in film but also fairness in life. I will say that I think the script does show plenty of realistic discrimination, and how some of his victims could have been saved by police if they had only lessened their bias and followed through with the police work they were meant to.

In an interview with NME “Now, in a new featurette for Netflix, Peters has revealed that he watched Dahmer’s famous 1994 interview with American reporter Stone Phillips to help him get into character…” and goes on to say “Peters said he was “very scared” about exploring Dahmer’s crimes, admitting that it was one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do in his acting career.”
