Doing something slightly out of my comfort zone, but the actions we’re are seeing coming out of the #okleg; has led me to start a series @TheBlackTimesOK called #WTFOK. Here's a preview.
I'm diving into these attacks on protected rights because it's wrong to pretend this path is not dangerous.
If you know anyone engaged in the #OKC #TA community doing great work, tag them. I want to know & see how we can help elevate that work.
Full EP:
Over the weekend hundreds of people gathered at the Oklahoma state Capitol, to listen to several speakers discuss the importance of reproductive freedom.
The unconstitutional assaults on fundamental rights, violate the protections granted to citizens to avoid government overreach, such as “the inherent right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, which is mentioned in article II section two of Oklahoma's state constitution.
In April, Stitt signed SB 612 which legally bans healthcare providers from performing abortions. The consequences for violating the ban is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and a fine of $100,000.
On Sunday, he appeared on Fox News to discuss the abortion bans. He was asked about a report published by The Frontier regarding polling data for public opinion on abortion.
The report cites a 2014 Pew Research Study, which reports “51% of 391 Oklahoma Respondents believed abortion should be legal in all or most cases.”, the host continued, “so within the last few years your state was pretty evenly split on this issue.”
Stitt then says, “Well…some of those different facts, or those newspaper that you’re quoting…are not what we find with the people in Oklahoma, so I totally disagree with those numbers.”
This country has a dark and neglectful history of making decisions about an individual's body in the name of the law.
Stitt and many of our state's lawmakers are testing how far over the line they can go, and whether the people will use what they fear most, their voice and vote.

Let’s send Americans stimulus checks to combat the nation’s high ass gas prices.

NEWS: Today during the Okc City Council meeting @nmcafee read the documented names of the people killed by OCPD from 2018 to 2021.
“We know this list is incomplete as it doesn't include folks who died later from injury and the impacts on broader family & the community.”
Nicole continues,
“So I ask you today to not just receive, but approve these recs, not because they're adequate, but because I'm unwilling to wait until OCPD kills yet another resident...take meaningful steps towards disrupting & divesting the institution of policing.”
The City Council later voted (8-1) to receive the 21CP recommendations.
Abby Broyles has admitted to attending the sleepover, but doesn't remember anything aside from vomiting in a clothing hamper.

Food for thought ✏️ 📚📚🏫.
Nikki Giovanni,
“They say why should a writer be free to write what he wants? One says a teacher is not free to teach what he wants”
James Baldwin,
“A teacher who is not free to teach is not a teacher…to teach is a revolutionary act.”

James Baldwin,
“A teacher who is not free to teach is not a teacher…to teach in the situation in which Black people in America have found themselves in, really to teach is a revolutionary act.”

This was not a #halftimeshow for a football game. This was a Mary J. Blige concert. We shall tell future generations nothing more, nothing less.
Today a person was arrested while trying to present a banner during Governor Kevin Stitt’s #SOTS address. The individual was immediately arrested and the banner was confiscated.
We’re not sure what will happen to them, but are searching for answers.
