7 ft male genitalia landmark in Bavaria, Germany disappears

A local 7 feet phallus landmark strangely disappeared, according to reports of the neighborhood police in the countryside located in Bavaria, Germany.

According to a local German newspaper, Allgäuer Zeitung, the mysterious landmark appeared to have been "chopped down" over the weekend, and all that was left was a pile of sawdust.

However, nobody knows who has done it since the German police are currently investigating the situation, and it is not sure whether a crime has been committed or not.

Furthermore, the male genitalia landmark likewise gained ‘celebrity status’ in which hikers made it as a destination to hike to, even using it as a photo opportunity and is also a trend on social media.

The said landmark bafflingly appeared on the Grünten mountain in Bavaria years ago.

Locals said that it was a ‘birthday prank’ present for a man, but his family did not admire the said gift. Thus, the unwanted present was brought up to the mountain and was left there.

Constant raining causes flooding in Tuburan town

High levels of floodwaters batter Tuburan town, northwestern Cebu, following non-stop rain since Tuesday night on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.

Lapu-Lapu lights up Christmas 'Tree of Hope'

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan, together with the city council, successfully conducted a Christmas tree lighting event held at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall Grounds on December 1, 2020, at 6 p.m.

Pasko sa Lapu-Lapu 2020 Christmas Lighting is a remarkable way to start Christmas in the town despite the pandemic.

The grounds of City Hall are overflowing with beautiful colored lights and festive music that makes every Oponganon feel the breeze of the real Christmas air.

The 30 feet (ft) Christmas tree, which carries a glimmer of hope, is jointly created by inmates from the Lapu-Lapu City Jail.

It reminds the Oponganons of the excitement that most of them hoped to feel during the past months they were under quarantine as everyone wishes to survive this pandemic and recover from the lost livelihoods.

The Oponganon's "Tree of Hope" can be viewed and visited in front of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall Grounds, where taking pictures is free of charge.

"ML Tree of Hope" ignites Cebuano Christmas spirit as December starts

Filipinos are known for marking the ber months as the start of Christmastime in the Philippines.

They celebrate the longest Christmas season in the world, such that Jose Mari Chan's "Christmas in our hearts" starts playing as soon as the first September comes into view.

One of the symbolic non-living creatures in this holiday season is Christmas trees.

Every year, the lighting up of M Lhuillier Financial Services, Inc. tree within Fuente Osmeña Circle is what most Cebuanos await.

It has been 20 years since this annual celebration has started, and this year's Christmas is called the "ML Tree of Hope."

The 23rd Christmas tree of MLhuillier has been lit tonight at Fuente Osmena, Cebu City.

Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella, together with Vice Mayor Mike Rama and Mr. Michael Lhuillier (President and CEO Mlhuillier Financial Services Nationwide), headed the lighting ceremony on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

The "ML Tree of Hope" is 120 feet (ft), featuring 22 life-sized angels, complimented by their shiny instruments of saxophones, violins, and trumpets.

Furthermore, a replica of Magellan's Cross sits at the tree's foot in honor of the 500 Years of Christianity in the region.

EDITORIAL | Resiliency: the aftermath fallacy

While Filipinos have repeatedly been touted for having a water-proof spirit when struck with any man-made and natural calamities, the obvious gap in the country’s disaster preparedness is still not bridged. There will come a time when this much-abused spirit of ‘resiliency’ can no longer save those vulnerable people who bear the most devastating impact of disasters.

Resilience may be an essential trait in overcoming and adapting to whatever test life brings, but this is also often misused to excuse accountability and liability from people supposedly tasked with preventing distressing outcomes from happening.

In the middle of a pandemic crisis, three consecutive typhoons made landfall in the country - Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. Each came barrelling across Metro Manila, other Luzon Provinces, and some Urban areas, leaving behind destroyed houses, fallen trees, broken electricity lines, flooded roads, floating bodies, and disheartened Filipino people.

Considering that our tectonic location is within the Pacific Ring of Fire, It is a given that the Philippines is a country most prone to natural hazards, having an average of 20 tropical cyclones passing every year, according to the Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC).

Knowing these regular threats to our people and land, why do Filipinos always seem to share the same narrative about resilience every after disasters?

During the height of Ulysses’ fury, Marikina City was one of the worst-affected areas, such that the Marikina River’s water level reached 22 meters on Thursday, November 12 - a number higher than typhoon Ondoy’s 21. 5-meter level.

According to Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Assistant Secretary Casiano Monilla, the government “were actually not caught flatfooted in this event,” but the “residents do not comply” immediately to what is warned of them.

Per contra, it was already the fourth typhoon in November, meaning the residents were already flooded with past warnings, making these new set of cautions sound less alarming. They should have delivered a more detailed advisory to make sure the people understand the message they are trying to portray.

Even UP Resilience Institute head Mahar Lagmay said there should have been “area-specific, hazard-focused, and time-bound warnings” in the disaster-prone areas.

Back when Project NOAH by Lagmay was funded by the government, it uses disaster maps to foresee and identify areas at risk of floods, at what speed and height do the water rise in the rivers, and where landslides might occur. This helped in bridging gaps of information and communication during that time, but it was defunded due to budget deterrents in 2017.

Apart from this, one of the main reasons for the flooding in Cagayan, Isabela, Bulacan, and Pampanga is the release of water dams during the height of Ulysses.

According to Lagmay, this damage could have been avoided using weather maps to predict rainfall before a typhoon occurs for the dam to release water in advance.

Why does the government continue to overlook the significance of disaster prevention and mitigation?

It has been 10 years ever since the implementing rules and regulations were released for Republic Act (RA) 10121, also known as the Philippine DRRM Act of 2010, and yet the government continues to set aside this kind of problems on the back burner until they become so big it requires much more wrenching change to try to deal with them.

In this era of global warming, people may never absolutely prevent the damages brought by certain extreme weather disturbances. No one can stop a typhoon or storm surge, but it’s possible to save communities from the brunt of nature’s fury. Lives, property, and livelihoods have better chances of surviving with a competent government.

Filipino resilience has always been here. When will the government care for the people at risk? When will they give the service every Filipino people deserve?

FEATURE | 9 tipbits to have passing grades without 'passing out'

Would you die for the love of passing grades? Well, you don’t really have to.

With the emergence of COVID-19, the transition of physical classes to online classes has brought heavy baggage to some students who were already greatly affected by the pandemic.

As it was announced that another semester is to be held online, a lot was discouraged and unmotivated, stressed out about another set of massive workloads to befall on their shoulders.

Given that many learners have struggled to adapt to the new learning environment, here are some tips to pass your subjects without passing out.

This may help you resolve some mostly encountered problems in online classes:

1. Prioritize your mental health

Brains are the most useful creatures in learning and studying, so it is vital to keep them healthy. During the pandemic, a lot of Individuals have been devastated by the situations in their surroundings, giving way to anxiety and negative thoughts. When you find yourself overthinking about personal or school-related stuff, take a step back and view the situation afar.

Do not get drowned in assignments, projects, and Zoom meetings to the point where your mental health is at the bottom of your priority list. Make a conscious effort to prioritize what your mind feels. Despite the busy world, never minimize the value of taking time to take care of yourself. Remember, you’re the most important key to success in online classes.

2. Make a personal schedule

The feeling of losing time is one of the worst sentiments anyone can feel. Everyone faces different time challenges, but generally, you and your classmates have the same desire: To make the best use of the time left and to accomplish the things that are truly important. In order to stay mentally focused and organized with all pending and incoming activities assigned by your professors, a personal schedule like a to-do list may come in handy. It separates your priorities and serves as a guide on where you are on your academic map. You are the anchor of your time, so control your schedule before it controls you.

3. Reach out to teachers/professors for help when needed

Believe it or not, although professors seem to constantly give out endless video lectures, assignments, and activities, they too have an idea of the situation you are in. Try to take the first move to reach out whenever you’re having a hard time in particular lessons because they might be able to give you assistance and genuine pieces of advice.

Furthermore, technical issues are bound to happen in an online-only environment - most of you may be struggling with a low internet connection and device capacity. By informing your professors about your situation, they may understand and be flexible about it, perhaps even record class sessions as a backup for everyone else experiencing the same predicament.

4. Avoid distractions during study time

Hold that Netflix movie! Stop scrolling down your Facebook feed! It is time to focus and study. Distractions are your number one enemy when studying, and you should have the right weapon to fight them. One way to avoid distractions is that you need to let go of your social media accounts for a while and hit that silent or airplane mode on your smartphones to stay focused on the assignment or activity you need to accomplish during that time. Whenever tempted, think of the sleepless nights and multitasking you need to undergo for that unaccomplished task just because you let yourself get carried away by a Korean drama.

5. Do not procrastinate

-Some students tend to pass their projects and activities just an hour before the deadline and some of you might be cramming intensively as well. If you think you’ve done this, then what you’re doing is called procrastination. Learn to follow your schedule and do the tasks before the deadline. Encourage yourself to do what you can do today, don’t take tomorrow for granted. Tomorrow is another day and another day might have another set of tasks.

6. Take one day at a time

Modules, school works, and video lectures can be so draining emotionally and physically. Make sure you’re giving yourself some time to rest, relax and refocus.⁣⁣ It’s okay to be not as productive as you would like to be right now. You are not a robot. Resting and giving yourself space is productive.⁣⁣ Even if you’ve found yourself with more free time than usual, you don’t need to force yourself too much. ⁣⁣In this uncertain time, it’s also important to cut yourself some slack. Give yourself some grace and don’t feel guilty about it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Rest, relax, refocus.

7. STOP and START

- Learn to pause when in a situation where you know you cannot think straight. When you are stressed, it is difficult to be productive. It’s hard to get your work done when all you can think about is how far behind you are. However, most of your stress may be self-imposed because of that goal of having straight A’s. Once you recharged, you’ll be surprised at how productive you can be with the right state of mind and body. Put things in perspective and don’t let your emotions derail your day. You know yourself the most, and it is only you who knows when to start and when to stop.

8. Create a good learning space

Another important way to beat stress from online classes is to make sure that your learning environment is supportive of learning. Go and look for a place where it’s quiet and you can focus. The area must be well-lit, comfortable - a place which feels like school. Try to set up your surroundings in a way that fits your learning habits.

9. Take charge, give all

Always remember to do your best in every activity that your professors assign you. Trust in yourself and trust the process. If you know that you did what you can do, it will reflect on how you respond to your scores. With faith and determination to continue, you’ll know that you can make it and achieve your goals. Not everyone is privileged, but those who always give their 100% are more than privileged. After all, learning is the most important in studying, isn’t it?

COVID-19 has given us lots of challenges already in many aspects of life, but humans as we are, we continue to face these challenges head-on and move forward.

The key is to surf the tide of the ‘new normal’ to get through your studies. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, and rest when needed.

Remember, this too shall pass.

CNU opens student portal; grades can now be accessed online

Cebu Normal University (CNU) takes another step towards the 'new normal' as the institution launches its official student portal, providing the undergraduate and graduate students a digital front door to access grades online, among others.

Over the past year, CNU's Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO) has been working to build a website that improves navigation for students as it "was conceptualized before the pandemic and was fully functional last September this year."

Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the first or current semester of S.Y. 2020-2021 from all campuses can now sign-in to the student portal, including the students who have already registered in the student kiosk before the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

Days after its launch, the CNU Student Portal already received some positive reviews from the student consumers.

Kristel Anne G. Alivio, a third-year student, taking up Bachelor in Elementary Education major in General Education from Cebu Normal University-Balamban Campus, described the portal as convenient and timely.

"It is a great way for the students to know their grades easily online, especially now that it's pandemic... I do not need to go to the main campus para magkuha sa grade slips," Alivio stated in an interview with Mantalinaw.

(It is a great way for the students to know their grades easily online, especially now that it's pandemic...I don't need to go to the main campus to get the grade slips.)

In a separate interview, Ruelyn Barro, a second-year student taking up Bachelor in Secondary Education major in English in Medellin campus, mentions the portal's functionality where it "allows students to check their grades without disturbing the tranquility state of a teacher."

As of the moment, the student portal only provides viewing of grades and faculty evaluations, which was made obligatory for students to answer before having complete access to their academic results.

According to CNU Data Protection Officer Mr. Omar Roma, the Management information system (MIS) is still working on online enrollment, hoping to add the feature to the student portal next year.

All bonafide students of the institution can now log in to the student portal found at the official CNU website at cnu.edu.ph.

Bea Alonzo drops gifts to orphans while riding ‘rocket ship’

Filipina actress Bea Alonzo delivered laptops and other essentials to abandoned children of the SOS Children’s Villages Philippines through a real-life Filipino version of the 'Over the Moon' rocket ship.

Alonzo's charity organization, I Am Hope, and the streaming giant Netflix, partnered to give early Christmas treats to the orphans in SOS Children’s Villages Philippines - an organization that cares for children who are abandoned and are in need, last week.

With this, the children were ecstatic for the chance to learn and experience a good education.

The actress said in her Instagram post that after watching the animated Netflix film, "Over The Moon," she got "inspired by its message of dreaming big and following your dream no matter what circumstances."

Also, Alonzo expressed her awareness about the importance of surviving in these trying times and not losing hope.

“...Survival must come first, especially in these trying times, but I pray that we will not lose hope.” She stated in her IG post.

Furthermore, the "rocket ship" as described looked like a mash-up of the Filipino jeepney and a vessel inspired by the animated movie.

Alonzo gave an inside tour on the said rocket ship jeepney and had an interview with Raymond Rimando, the village director of the SOS Philippines, regarding their organization, which can be streamed on her Youtube vlog uploaded last Saturday.

Face-to-face classes may soon resume in Cebu Province

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) is to decide whether to agree to the upholding of limited face-to-face classes in some areas in Cebu Province, which was requested by the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Visayas on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020.

Dr. Salustiano Jimenez, DepEd 7 Director, says the department is targeting low-risk islands and barangays with zero cases of COVID-19, given that the relatively smaller population made it easier to enforce health protocols set by the IATF.

"We will implement it gradually in our region. Possibly we’ll start in the hinterland schools and island schools." Jimenez stated.

"Gamay ra ug mga bata, so we can easily implement the protocol set by the Department of Health and the IATF." He added.

According to the said proposal, there will be a two-day class week in public schools, allowing only 50 percent of the student population to attend per session.

Two days will be spent on the face-to-face classes, while the remaining days of the week can be spent on answering modules or on attending online classes.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia supports the department's decision and is willing to release funds to ensure that all students can attend the classes after complaints from parents and teachers about the ineffectiveness of distance learning stormed the office.

Jimenez said the DepEd is already conducting mass testing of DepEd employees in compliance with their agreement with the Department of Health (DOH) Region 7.

Some areas in Cabagan, Isabela still flooded after typhoon 'Ulysses'

A few days after Typhoon Ulysses struck Luzon, the floods in Barangay Ngarag in the province of Cabagan, Isabela, are still within reach, and other residents have not yet returned to their homes.

The typhoon also affected the cornfield in the barangay. According to residents, the probability of their crops to survive is unpredictable since they do not know when the flood will subside.

Farmers are trying to dry wet crops such as rice and corn to preserve it for further consumption.

Meanwhile, residents are calling for assistance to provide a floodwater absorption machine, given that there is no drainage in the area.

TRIGGER WARNING//

trended on Twitter, Facebook after thousand residents still trapped on flood in search of immediate aid

Netizens on Friday appealed to the government, media, and Filipino citizens to aid the flood victims living in Cagayan province and the whole Cagayan Valley, which is currently in deep floods caused by typhoon Ulysses.

Social media platforms are overwhelmed with hashtags , , , and by concerned netizens who sought for well-meaning people to send immediate help to the residents suffering in the said regions.

Several posts claimed that many people are asking to be rescued as they are already on their rooftops.

Furthermore, most of the posts said that "residents are drowning while kids are crying for help," as rescuers have not yet arrived due to the lack of manpower for the rescue operation.

According to Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, the intense flooding was caused by the release of excess water in Magat Dam following the typhoon Ulysses.

Col. Ascio Macalan of Cagayan Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said that thousands of heavily affected residents are still in need of urgent rescue.
