Army War College Honours NYSC Members, Others

In an emotional and heartfelt ceremony, the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) bid farewell to four military personnel and five Corps members, marking the successful conclusion of their respective tenures. The event held on 29 January 2024 at the College Lounge AWCN Asokoro Abuja was attended by high-ranking faculty members. This was a testament to the significant contributions made by these individuals during their service at the prestigious institution.

The Commandant AWCN, Major General Ishaya Buba Maina, represented by the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, expressed deep gratitude for the untiring commitment and dedication exhibited by the departing officers and Corps members. General Umar highlighted the valuable contributions of the nine, acknowledging their role in enhancing the institution’s mission statement. General Umar charged the departing staff to be exemplary ambassadors of the values instilled at AWCN. He emphasized the importance of carrying forward the knowledge, skills, and ethos imbibed during their tenure, urging them to make positive impacts in their future endeavors.

The National Youth Service Corps has announced that 10 corps members will travel to India on Sunday, to participate in a Youth Exchange Programme organised by the Indian National Cadet Corps.

The annual programme is held to commemorate the Independence Anniversary of the Republic of India, drawing participants from Europe, Asia, Africa and other continents.

This was contained in a statement signed by NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, on Saturday.

During a pre-departure briefing held at the Indian High Commission in Abuja, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, expressed appreciation for the invitation extended to the scheme to participate in the programme.

NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE AUTHORITY IS AN AVENUE TO ACCESS FREE HEALTH CARE SERVICES – NHIA COORDINATOR, EDO

The Edo State Coordinator of the National Health Insurance Authority; Ambassador Ehannire Theodore Osas, has assured Corps Members that the NHIA/NYSC Programme is a Collaborative avenue for them to access free healthcare services during the service year.

He made the assertion today while sensitizing Corps Members deployed to Edo State for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream II Orientation Course, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area.

Amb. Ehannire further noted that the Federal Government had made provisions for the automatic enrollment of all Corps Members into the NHIA programme right from their call up for National Service, regardless of their location during the Orientation, post Orientation up to three(3) weeks after the national service.

Another resource person from NHIA; Dr. Olubunmi E., took Corps Members through the process of online registration, biometric screening and accessing free medical care on the NHIA platform at no cost.

NYSC OVIA NORTH-EAST, Edo State initiates and executes THE BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT TARGETING 7 SCHOOLS IN OKADA, OVIA
NORTH EAST LGA, EDO STATE

The Back to School Project which was initiated by Education Development CDS Group is a COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE PROJECT targeted at schools on resumption from holiday.

The project is a collaborative effort by all the CDS groups in Ovia North East LGA, aimed at Inspiring, Educating, Empowering and Motivating the school
children to be the best and better than they were in the previous academic session(s).

The project started on the14th September and ended on the 5th October, 2023.

School visited are:

1) 14th September, 2023:
Academic Excel Group of Schools Iguomon

2) 21st September, 2023:
Igbinedion University Staff School Okada

3) Eminent Group of Schools Okada 21st Sept 2023

4) 28th September, 2023:
AL-Wahab Academy Okada (Islamic School)

5) Okada Grammar School Okada 28th Sept. 2023

6) 5th October, 2023:
Regina Mundi Academy Okada (Catholic school)

7) Starlight Academy Okada 5th October 2023.

Over 5,000 school children were impacted.

Note books, instructional materials, school uniforms, were distributed to students who had good results from the last exams. Waste bins donated to all schools visited.

Sensitisation on topical issues such as
Academic Excellence, Hygiene, Dental Care, and Safety to daily usage of chemicals formed part of the Back to School project

Additionally, Religious group discussions enlightened the children about their
Faith in God.
