In case you thought people at my current job were treated equal, let me assure you, we are not. Here is a picture of my cubicle. Small, just some metal cabinets, nothing fancy. Then here is a photo of the desk directly next to my cubicle. Before you ask, no this person is not a supervisor, or manager. This person is not above me and doesn’t hold a position of authority. They just simply work in a department that obviously values their employees, and I work for someone who literally told me the other day “I can’t help you, I don’t know how to do your job.”

Story time!

This morning I went to pick up business cards for the podcast and the poor kid working the counter realized that whoever printed the cards, forgot to cut them. So although my order was supposed to be ready Thursday morning, and I was picking them up Saturday morning, the cards were not ready yet. Understanding that sometimes things happen, I agreed to wait while he cut the cards for me. He apologized the entire time, and even though I was a little annoyed I patiently waited and told him it was okay. At the end of the transaction he once again apologized and I told him that I used to work in retail so I was understanding of the situation. He was so relieved, he even went on to tell me about how rude some customers can be, and how angry some get when their 2x3 photos blown up to 8x10 come out blurry 😂. Customers suck sometimes! That’s why season 3 will be focus on the people at work that are customers. If you’ve worked in a retail, food service, or general customer service position and have a good story to share about a horrible customer, please share them and it may be featured on season 3 of People at Work!

As you can see this rain was BAD and there’s no way we could’ve gotten any work done, yet Michael was fired, I guess you can’t have fun at work.

Here is the photo that goes along with the story I shared in Michael’s episode of People at Work. Despite being treated terribly and receiving no tip, this server still kindly helped their customer crack open their crab legs and treated them with the utmost respect. Of course the customer still found a way to complain by writing “unacceptable meal” at the bottom of the receipt. Sometimes you just have to kill people with kindness. Thanks for the story and photo Jaye Behr.

Today I tried to scan invoices while working so I didn’t have to stay late just to scan, unfortunately while paying attention to my actual work I failed to notice the scanner was just throwing papers out like crazy. I walked back over to the scanner to find my coworker frantically trying to catch the papers and stop them from flying all over the place. Sometimes you just have to laugh!

Story time!

The other day I was listening to a podcast at my cubicle with headphones in. My boss came over to talk to me so I pulled my headphone out and paused the podcast on my phone. My boss said “I really wish you wouldn’t watch tv at work.” Confused I looked at her and said “oh no, I’m just listening to a podcast.” She looked at me like I was stupid and said “I know you watch tv on your phone, I’ve caught you several times, it’s unprofessional, just stop doing it.” Shocked I sat there thinking to myself ummm ok????? So as soon as she was done talking to me I went up to my coworker to tell him what my boss just said to me and as I walk up to him he pauses a YouTube video on his phone and pulls a headphone out of his ear.... I can’t make this stuff!
