Some facts about Great Ningo; ORIGINS OF GREAT NINGO?

Some facts about Great Ningo.

“THE Kingdom of Ningo ( which by the French, is called Lempi, or Lampi; and by the English, Lampa, or Alampo) borders West on Labadde and Great Akkra Egwira, East on Soko, and South on the Sea of Guinea; extending about thirteen Leagues along the Coast, from Labadde Lay, or Alempi.

THE Prince of Ningo bears the Title of King of Ladingkour, though he and his subjects are dependent on the King of Aquambo, who rules them arbitrarily, punishing the slightest Faults with Death.”

The town of Old Ningo, one of the oldest European settlements in Ghana, is situated along the Gulf of Guinea coast, in the Greater Accra Region. Built in Old Ningo in 1734, the Danish Fort Fredensborg was once a fairly important slave trading station. However, with the abolition of the slave trade, it soon decayed such that by 1835 only one man was stationed in the fort ‘to maintain the flag’ .

Fredensborg was already in a state of ruin when it was handed over to the British on 8th March 1850, along with other Danish possessions.

'THE EUROJET JOURNEY' (PART ONE):
...FROM CONCEPTUALIZATION, CONSTRUCTION, COMPLETION AND COMMISSIONING ('THE 4 Cs').

This would not be the first time I am seeking to set the records straight on the Eurojet Hospitals Project(s) envisioned and initiated by the Government of Ghana (GoG) per the Kufuor Administration (NPP 2 Administration) in the year 2008. I had the opportunity to do somthing similar two years ago(2020).

Inspite of the abundance of material of evidential value underscoring the genesis and trajectory of the Project under reference, it appears there's still some controversy relative to who did what, when, where and how to actualise and sustain the evolution of the Project to date.

Honestly, but for the tendency of "political elements" across the political divide, who are prone to claim "exclusive credit" relative to this and other projects, methinks the controversy is needless and unwarranted. However, in an enviroment of competitive partisan politics, it is virtually impossible to impose an "injunction" on this "sub-culture". Hence my decision to set the records striaght via "The 4 Cs methodology"; (Conceptualization, Construction, Completion and Commissioning).

Indeed, evidence of this "methodology" was best articulated by President Akufo-Addo when he commissioned one of the Nine Eurojet Hospitals; the Upper West Regional Hospital(Wa) on 18th. August, 2019.

Hear him: " This project has passed through the hands of four successive Presidents of Ghana. It was initiated and begun under the 2nd. President of the 4th. Republic, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor; it was continued by His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills; and his successor; His Excellency John Dramani Mahama; and it has been commissioned by me; the 5th. President of the 4th. Republic. This is a good statement about our our country, of our institutions and of our governance".

As I indicated eslewhere recently, and two years ago, the above presidential observation tells the factual and truthful story relative to "the 4 Cs" of the EUROJET HOSPITALS PROJECT(s).

Beginning with this instalment(1st), I shall reproduce authentic official documentation showing the trajectory of events; MoUs; Cabinet and Parliamentary Approvals and Memoranda: Credit/Financing Aggrements; Contract Agreements and their Addenda; Value For Money Audit Negotiations and Minutes and CAGD and BoG records relative to the funding of the projects among other relevant pieces of evidential value which could help dymystify the needless "exclusivist credit-taking" debate/controversy over the Project under reference.

I start with President Kufuor's grant of Executive Approval for "PROJECT FINANCING AND SUPPLY OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FOR 500 BED MILITARY HOSPITAL WITH RESIDENTIAL STAFF HOUSING FOR THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE IN KUMASI" dated 19th. July, 2008, and signed by the then Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr. Frank Mpare.

PS: The STANDING ORDERS of 'This HOUSE' which I deliberately relaxed yesterday, have been elevated to its original status, and would be strictly observed. The usual "Intruders" and "Gate Crashers" and their "ugly noises" , innuendos and insinuations would be IGNORED!

Stay tuned for more......

GHANA ARMED FORCES RECEIVE MORE SUPPORT FROM PREZ AKUFO-ADDO
President Akufo-Addo earlier today presented 40 Jeep J8 vehicles, 6 Toyota Hi-ace mini buses, and 14 Toyota Hilux pick-ups, to the Armed Forces, which will help contain the security threats posed by extremist groups operating along our northern borders, and also help the Army deal better with internal security challenges.

He also inspected work on the Ghana Military Academy Infrastructure Upgrade project site, whose sod he cut on 4th July 2019. The Cadet Mess, the Square and lecture rooms are completed. The Administration Block is some ninety-five (95%) complete, and the contractor is in the final stages of completing the external works. The two hundred and forty-six (246) capacity Cadet Hostel and Platoon Commander’s Block are some sixty-five percent (65%) complete.

Again, He inspected on-going construction of the seven-storey Army Headquarters Office Complex, which is also progressing steadily. This project is costing the taxpayer some GH¢33 million. He also cut the sod for the commencement of work on the US$24.8 million housing project for the troops. Forty (40) half compound houses will be built here at Burma Camp, ten (10) each at the Naval Base in Sekondi, the Airforce Base in Tamale, the 4th Infantry Battalion in Kumasi, and the 3rd Infantry Battalion in Sunyani. When completed, a total of three hundred and twenty (320) units would be added to the housing stock of the Armed Forces

Okomfo Anokye was born in Ghana around 1655. According to Akuapem tradition, he was son of Ano and Yaa Anubea, both from Awukugua in the Nifa Division of the Okere state. He was named Anokye because It is said that when Okomfo Anokye was born in Awukugua he was already holding in his right hand a short white tail of a cow (Podua); and he had so firmly clenched the fist of the other hand that no one could open it. The woman who went to deliver the labouring mother tried to open it because she suspected there was something in it. The father was called in to assist... Okomfo Anokye opened his eyes and, staring at the father, quickly opened the mysterious hand, showing it to the father and saying "Ano....Kye" (Guan language) meaning "Ano...see" and gave to the father what was in it. It is alleged that it was a talisman. From this incident Kwame Agyei got his name "Anokye". Okomfo Anokye, his original name Kwame Anokye Frimpon Kotobre.

When Osei Kofi Tutu I succeeded to the throne of the Kumaseman State between c.1680 and c.1695 (exact year unknown; although he was definitely Kumasehene by 1695) to the leadership of the small group of Akan forest states around the city of Kumasi, which were already grouped in a loose military alliance, Anokye was his adviser and chief priest. Tutu and Anokye, who must be considered together, carried out the expansionist policy of their predecessors, defeating two powerful enemies, the Akan Doma to the northwest and the Denkyera empire to the south.

It was and still is said by the historians of Ashanti that the Asante people are descended from the peoples of the ancient Ghana Empire (thus the current name that Kwame Nkrumah gave the country), which is said to supplant their martial valour. The Ashanti conquered large parts of Ghana during the 17th century by overthrowing their powerful overlords, the Denkyira. Okomfo Anokye was essentially a powerful cleric who served to rally the people to the cause of his friend the king. Anokye is also said to have placed a dagger in the middle of the Ashanti region, which the Europeans have not been able to take out with any type of technology for over 500 years. Ashanti was one of the few countries in West Africa to achieve victories against the British in battle.

After Osei Tutu's death in 1717, Anokye is said to have returned to Akuapim and died at town called Kyirapatre in Kumase between 1717 and 1719 (aged between 62 and 64). The real cause of his death is not known and it is said that he was going to bring the key to death - and so no one should cry; if anyone is heard crying he will never return. After a couple of days he still was not back and so the women cried, and he never returned.

This is Kwame Nkrumah Interchange (formerly Kwame Nkrumah Circle. It’s a 3-tier interchange which was constructed to replace the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the centre of the city of Accra, Ghana. The interchange is named after the first President of the Republic of Ghana.

The interchange (circle) used to be called the National Liberation Circle, after the National Liberation Council which overthrew the government of Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.

he Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has developed a logo signifying a protector with strength keeping watch over the country. The logo is a heraldic symbol of an eagle in flight in a swoop down inclined with an outstretched full wingspan and around its neck hangs a black star medallion suspended from a ribbon of the national colours.
Much has not been seen of the office since it’s creation till the resignation of Martin Amidu, the first Special Prosecutor (SP).
The new SP appears to be branding the office with the release of this logo today. Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng was sworn into office this month.
