The Platypus was first believed to be a hoax when discovered by British scientists in the late 18th century, the first specimen was sent back from its very own native Australia and Zoologist George Shaw wrote; “It naturally excites the idea of some deceptive preparation by artificial means”.
This egg-laying, duck-billed marsupial with poisonous barbs and a beak must clearly have been concocted in some mad ruse and surely couldn’t be real. He further proclaimed “Of all the Mammalia yet known it seems the most extraordinary in its conformation; exhibiting the perfect resemblance of the beak of a Duck engrafted on the head of a quadruped.” Indeed the Platypus was extraordinary in that it held up a perfect mirror to human stupidity. It was not only real but abundant and stood in complete defiance of humanity's ignorance towards the beauty, variety, and wonder of nature.
Fast forward to the 21st Century and The Platypus has watched on as its home planet has been ravaged and pillaged by humans, its native Australia rages on fire and its fellow animal and plant species are suffering under a sixth extinction. But fear not! The Platypus has risen and like any good activist has entered the world of online journalism in a bid to showcase the natural world in a different light and become the voice of nature. He is prepared to go where no other journalist will go and stands on the precipice ready to dive into the dark heart of humanity and uncover The Truth about what is happening to our beautiful blue planet.
The Platypus has set out to change the way people see the natural world through tireless gonzo journalism, spoof, comedy, parody, satire and general animalistic tomfoolery The Platypus wants to get some of those humans neurons firing (that humans go on about SO MUCH) and make you stop and think (or laugh).
