Mission Shift: A podcast where we explore the changing face of global missions. The world has changed drastically in the last few decades.

The success of the missions endeavor has turned past missionary fields into powerful missionary forces. Doors that are closing to Westerners are opening to those from the Majority World. In some places, globalization is yielding to nationalism. There is growing concern in the West about possible negative impacts of our going on those we go to. The pandemic has drastically altered travel and virtua

l engagement. In the face of these–and more–changes, how does the American church fit into global missions? What is our best contribution now? And what is the role of those in congregations across the US? Over the course of eight episodes, we will talk to thought leaders, missiologists, and ministry practitioners from five continents to learn how they are experiencing these shifts, and what challenges and opportunities we face in contributing to the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

Hello from the Mission Shift team! Hope you enjoyed Season 1 of our journey together in learning. If you haven't listened to all the episodes, hope you get a chance over the summer.

We so enjoyed having Cas Monaco on the podcast for several episodes along with all of our guests. Cas gave us such great insight with her wisdom and experience along our learning road together.

Look for new bonus episodes in the coming weeks as we release more extended interview content with many of our Mission Shift guests.

It's here... the final episode of Season 1 of Mission Shift! Carita and Josh bring it all together as they look back on this first season.

As we wrap up, today we hear from so many of our amazing guests: Paul Borthwick (USA), Lazarus Phiri (Zambia), Derek Seipp (USA), Steve Addison (Australia), Adegbite Olanihum (Nigeria), Marek Wyrzykowski (Poland), Greg Huguley (USA), Ron & Star Nelson (USA), and Cas Monaco (USA). We'll look back on where we’ve traveled so far, reflect on what we’ve learned, and discuss what some possible next steps might be.

This is our last episode for now. If you started listening part way through the season, we strongly encourage you to start with Episode 1 and catch up to where you started. Over the coming weeks and months we will release fuller versions of the interviews we drew on for this season, as well as the occasional special episode, right here on the podcast channel.

Ron & Star Nelson are the founders and directors of Sowing Seeds of Joy, which exists to be a bridge to the nations for Black, African American, and People of Color communities through cross-cultural missions training, discipleship, and spiritual formation for the work of advancing God’s Kingdom.

Episode 7, Part 2 released yesterday. In this second part of "New Era, New Approach" we focus on how full-time missionaries are engaging with a new approach to missions.

David & Susan Rice have served as missionaries with Cru both in the US and in Europe for several decades. From Europe, David led a movement to start campus ministries in locations all around the world. They currently live in Liverpool, England, where they serve and contribute to the efforts of immigrant churches to raise up laborers to take the gospel back to their home country.

Today we hear from Dela Adadevoh (Ghana), Ron & Star Nelson (USA), David & Susan Rice (USA) and Adrian de Visser (Sri Lanka). This is the second of a two-part episode in which we explore a new approach for engaging in global missions in this new era.

Today’s episode focuses on how full-time missionaries are engaging with a new approach; last week’s episode focused on opportunities for everyday followers of Jesus to make global contributions in this new era.

Jeff Reams is the Missions Pastor at Dunwoody Baptist Church in Dunwoody, GA. Jeff works to see his congregation involved in global missions in ways that reflect the new era of missions–both through formal missions opportunities and organic participation and partnership.

Marek Wyrzykowski is one of the latest experts to join us on Mission Shift with episode 6 released today.

Marek is a member of the Agape Europe Regional Team, Cru’s European ministry consisting of 40+ national movements engaging students, families, leaders, and those in need. Marek is passionate about helping people develop to the full potential of who God made them to be. In his career he has served as the national leader of Poland and Area leader of Eastern Europe.

Our conversation with all these leaders centers on the reality that though the center of gravity of Christianity has shifted out of the west, the center of power has not. What does that mean for engaging together in God’s global mission?

Adegbite Olanihun has been involved in missions mobilization, research, teaching/training, disciple-making and missions administration after working on a cross-cultural mission field. He is a Network Catalyst and Missions Consultant. He currently serves as the Head of Finance and Administration at the Nigeria Evangelical Missions Association (NEMA) (www.nemanigeriamissions.org), a missions network association of over 150 missions organizations and missional churches with over 15,000 Nigerian missionaries scattered all over the world.

Professor Dela Adadevoh joins us once again on Episode 5! Dela currently serves as the Vice President of Global Leadership for Cru. Previously, he served in a variety of national-level and regional-level positions with Cru throughout Africa and the Middle East, he has overseen global ministries that are part of the Cru family, and now leads in the area of Leadership Development for the entire global organization. Dela has authored several books, including "Leading Transformation in Africa", "Transforming Africa Inside-Out", and "Empowering Leadership".

Dr. Lazarus Phiri joined us this week for Episode 3 with some wonderful insight in how God is working in Zambia.

Dr. Phiri is the Vice Chancellor of Evangelical University in Zambia, Missiologist-at-Large with Pioneers, and frequent contributor for Missio Nexus. Through these roles, Dr. Phiri both prepares Zambian’s to participate in the global mission force, and invites the Western church to partner well with the Majority World church.

Pastor Adrian is the Vice President for Partnership Development at Asian Access, and founder of a missionary church planting movement in Sri Lanka–which now has a presence in several other Asian countries. Pastor Adrian is an advocate for partnership and mutuality between those in the West and in the Majority World.
