POD REUNION

Bumped into Sam (my co-host/co-cousin from Listen Now Podcast) in a field today (it was a family re-union, I swear there was lots of other family there behind the camera). We chatted about the pod and have committed to finally finishing the second season that was interrupted by COVID back in 2020 lol

How good is this!? Big Shed Brewing in Adelaide has a beer that's an homage to Cold Chisel - look closely and you can see the signatures of Maple Syrup Moss and the band! Longtime Chisel harmonica player David Blight is a regular at the brewery too, awesome spot for a drink! Cheers to Cindy for showing us around!

It doesn't stretch from Sydney to the silver city, and there are no flame trees present, but a street in Adelaide now bears the name of one of Australia's most famous rock bands.

If you’ve listened to this week’s ep you’ll know that the song ‘Mediate’ was very divisive between Matt & Sam - were interested to know how y’all feel! Do you appreciate the art or are you embarrassed by the simple rhymes?

GDAY YOU ABSOLUTE LEGENDS!! Huge apologies for the unplanned and lengthy break between pods. The old ‘rone cooked us a bit, as did some technical difficulties as we tried to record from home. BUT, now that Melbourne is a little freer, and I (Sam) have finished uni, we’re jumping back in the studio tomorrow, and will have a new ep for y’all early next week!
Thanks for your patience ya bloody Circus Animals đŸ€˜đŸ–€

In the meantime, catch up on our last ep where we talked about some classic punk - The Clash’s ‘Combat Rock’!

And don’t forget to email us at [email protected] with your thoughts, feelings, emotions - tell us your thoughts about the pod, an album, a story, or just a cheeky ramble about life đŸ€  cheers, Sam

Here's my second pick for great live songs - Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark. I haven't been lucky enough to see them live, but you can tell how bloody good it would be. This song in particular is built for live shows. Hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I hear tens of thousands of people singing along to the guitar riff.

Hey mates! Apologies for the delay on the latest episode, we've been having technical difficulties recording remotely!

I'm taking over the socials this week with some of my favourite live performances for over the years. This first one is English band IDLES playing on live British television. I saw them not too long after this in Melbourne and it was a cracking show. I like how they all look like they're all doing their own thing but somehow it all comes together... this is a great live sing a long tune too (I'll be picking a lot of these over the week).

-Matt

What are some of your favourite songs to hear live?

Last of today’s trio is a bit different to the first, and it is Kings of Leon. My high school mates introduced me to these Tennesseans between their third and fourth albums, so I can be a w**k and say ‘I knew them (about 35 seconds) before they were famous’

Now don’t get me wrong, Only By The Night was a cracking album, but the radio play of S*x On Fire every second song burnt the album in the worst way 💔

Luckily for me, not being aware of them during the actual release of their first three albums meant I could flog them to my heart’s content!

Youth And Young Manhood (2003)
- Red Morning Light
- Happy Alone
- Wasted Time
- California Waiting
- Spiral Staircase
- Holy Roller Novocaine

Aha Shake Heartbreak (2005)
- Slow Night, So Long
- King Of The Rodeo
- Taper Jean Girl
- Pistol Of Fire
- Milk
- The Bucket
- Four Kicks
Special shoutout to ASH which got me thru sleeping on planes, trains and buses during my 2014 euro trip!

Because Of The Times (2007)
- Knocked Up
- Charmer
- On Call
- Fans
- Camero
- Arizona

Last pic is the Peugeot’s heater, aka a Spider-Man lap blanket, the origins of which are still unknown. Also unknown is it’s fate that that I think about it đŸ€”

Today will be a three-parter again, with today having a link! All three of these bands have multiple albums that would be stacked in the Peug together. This meant that for me, I am not really able to tell which songs come from which album cos they were all getting played at the same time đŸ€Ș

Band #1 for the day - The Kooks. I had their first three playing over and over getting ready for Splendour 20something, I already forgot which year it was, and LOVED them.

My ex at the time used to get annoyed when I sang along cos I used ‘Kooks’ voice, similar to how you can only sing Tom Delonge style when listening to blink-182.

I’m gonna give you a general list of favourite songs from these first three albums rather than songs off one:

Inside In / Outside Out (2006) - Seaside, See The World, Sofa Song, Eddie’s Gun, Ooh La, You Don’t Love Me, and probably their most recognisable hit, Naive

Konk (2008) - See The Sun, Always Where I Need To Be, Do You Wanna, Stormy Weather, Sway, Down To The Market

Junk Of The Heart (2011) - Junk Of The Heart (Happy), Rosie, F**k The World Off, Is It Me, Killing Me
