Episode 10: Report Writing (Part 1) is up!

In today’s episode, part 1 of a 2 or more part report writing series, we go over the essential parts of report writing: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. I also discuss the proper way to document descriptions. In the next report writing episode, I’ll go more in depth to report structure, as well as how to describe and document injuries.

I’ve also included an update at the beginning of the episode about the shooting from a few weeks ago where a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed an alleged “security guard” and some new, if few, details.

Well, Episode 7: Throw The Book At 'Em! is out!

This one dives into some basic California Penal Codes as they relate to private security in the state. And really, it depends on what kind of PPO you work for (hands on vs. observe and report only, etc.) as to whether or not this kind of information would be useful. But, I am a firm believer that educating yourself further in your field of work makes you more efficient at your job. A bit of a dry subject, but informational to say the least!

Give it a listen, and let me know what you think! Let me know what you want to hear in future episodes, as well!

https://anchor.fm/guardshackpc/episodes/Episode-7-Throw-The-Book-At-Em-efg4sh

A lot of people get into security, receive the minimal training in regard to law knowledge, and that’s it. I like to educate myself (as well as the guards I lead) in the laws pertinent to our function as security. In this episode, I go over a short list of laws which I believe are important for ev...

Episode 6 is out!

I hope everyone has been staying safe out there.

In this episode, I go over some quick points on officer safety as it relates to civil unrest, especially given the current climate we are seeing in the United States.

Now, more than ever, we must practice and teach officer safety. Multiple law enforcement officers as well as security officers have been injured and killed during this period of civil unrest. We must watch not only our own backs, but those of our coworkers as well.

Episode 5 is done. Had some audio issues with echo which I haven't really had before, which is strange since I've recorded the last 3 episodes in the exact same spot! Hmm. I talk briefly on the current civil unrest throughout the nation (I plan on discussing a full episode soon on the topic in regard to officer safety for security) and then dive into the main topic, which is the Wearing the Uniform. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many people lack some basic skills, either they weren't taught growing up or weren't trained on for work

Like I always say, my goal is to help develop security professionals and improve the overall image of the private security industry, even if it is through simple stuff such as this.

https://anchor.fm/guardshackpc/episodes/Episode-5-Wearing-the-Uniform-eet3bd

Hi Folks- We're in a time of great civil unrest. While I generally have a rule of not talking about controversial social topics on the podcast, I simply cannot not address what has happened with the completely unjustified and avoidable death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25th, 2020. Just so everyone knows, I'm working on Episode 5. I'm a day behind so far. Even though I'm in private security and no longer in law enforcement, what's going on in our nation (and in my local area) is effecting us as well. Episode 5 will probably be a bit different, and I'm hoping to have a special episode where I have one or two guests and we can discuss how Civil Unrest effects the private security industry.

BUT...
I cannot not talk about this matter. In the preliminary autopsy, they stated asphyxiation was not a cause of death but instead it was his combined health issues, possible intoxicants in his system, along with him being restrained.

Well, when I was in the academy, they taught that the way Mr. Floyd was restrained could and would lead to positional asphyxiation. Well, the way he was restrained contributed to his death, and it is safe to come to the conclusion he would not have died if not restrained the way he was, therefore, asphyxiation is why he died (the same as if COVID attributes to the death of someone with health issues who would have more than likely survived if not for COVID).

Anyway, that is a medium length rant, but now there is news an independent autopsy states asphyxiation was the cause!

If you get a chance, consider checking out the Disturbing the Peace podcast, they have some good content, and the episode they released yesterday was on point.

George Floyd's family attorney revealed the first findings of an independent autopsy into his death.

Civil Unrest is among us. These are not protests, they are riots and looting. Burning a nation down and committing theft will resolve NOTHING, only cause more issues. Protest peacefully, but this is completely unnecessary.

In the riots in Oakland, a federal security officer was shot and killed. I've attached the news article to this post.

People, stay safe out there. The ones doing this don't care if you're a cop or a guard. They're looking for uniforms. Practice great situational awareness, and be more vigilant for the potential for ambushes. Call out any and all of your contacts so someone knows where you are and what you're doing.

All 4 officers involved are responsible for George Floyd's death, the 3 standing by doing nothing are responsible as they all had a duty to intervene when it came to an excessive use of force. All 4 officers have been terminated, and the primary officer has been arrested and charged and it is expected the other 3 officers on scene will be arrested and charged as well.

As a former peace officer, I am disgusted by the actions and lack thereof by these 4 officers. They do not represent cops as a whole.

Seems some people in Denver aren't too happy about having security at the shelters, especially with the fact that it is Allied Universal (apparently they have some...history...) Not trying to pick on AUS or anything, they just happened to be in the couple of security news articles I've come across today.

What are your feelings about having security at a homeless shelter? Is it needed? Should they be armed or unarmed?
