Fear not
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’” – Luke 2:10

These beautiful words were spoken to the shepherds on that first
Christmas morning. A wonderful announcement that the Savior of the world had finally been born.

In John 15, Jesus says “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” This Christmas, let’s put aside our quest for happiness and allow the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts to bring the joy that he intended for us and the angels promised.

When love calls
“If we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” – 1 John 4:12

This is the love we celebrate in the Advent season. The exact love demonstrated when God took on human skin and the angels announced the good news so long ago.
That same resurrected Jesus is still transforming people’s lives and fills them with a love that continues to lead to “How did I get here?” moments.

I pray you experience that love in a new and real way this Advent season.

That first Christmas, Jesus, the promised Messiah (John 1:14), enters the scene clothed in brilliant light, dispelling darkness as the light that leads to life (John 8:12). Hope had come for all people.
Whatever darkness you face in your life today, in Jesus, you will find hope because he is hope. Wherever darkness exists in your life, invite Jesus into that place with you and declare with trustworthy confidence, “Hope shines here!

Heirs of eternal life
“So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” –Titus 3:7

To be sure, there are many joys in our journey through life as well as hardships and losses. Some of these are no more than simple inconveniences. Others cause us deep grief and pain. Yet, the reminder that we are heirs of eternal life gives us perspective.
In our joy it reminds us there is a greater joy awaiting us. In our grief and hardship it reminds us this is not how the story ends.

As we await the arrival of Christmas, may our hearts fully trust Christ and his gift of making us heirs of eternal life.
