For the past 15 months, CHAT and BTT have been working in partnership with Visit The USA, the tourism marketing agency for the United States, responsible for driving inbound travelers to U.S. destinations. The case was made for Black-owned businesses, that provide cultural heritage tourism experiences, to be included in its international marketing efforts. Unlike Miami, Tampa and a few others, more than 600 destination marketing organizations (DMOs) in the U.S. do not have multicultural tourism departments responsible for amplifying Black and Brown local cultural heritage assets. Therefore, this segment of minority-owned businesses are not actively participating nor profiting from the global tourism industry. Read the full opinion story:

South Florida hosts some of America’s most popular tourist destinations. Yes, COVID-19 battered them. But, now, the party is picking up again. Over the years, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties have received global recognition and a steady stream of tourism dollars.

This week we welcome Brooke Walis to the Miami View Women family! Chime in with your questions during this live conversation.

About Brooke:
Brooke is a native of Boston but finds herself most comfortable in foreign lands. After leaving Corporate America, she moved to Bogotá, Colombia to teach in an under-resourced community through an international education non-profit based out of Harvard University. She has since settled in Miami, Florida where she focuses on her local community’s startup ecosystem and plays the role of connector between universities, non-profits, entrepreneurs and investors at the Cambridge Innovation Center. A proud feminist, she's grateful for the ability to have built a platform where many female entrepreneurs have been able to have their stories amplified and strengthened. Brooke spends her free time balancing her desire to travel the world while still spending time with family.

About Ana:
I am from Honduras but raised in Miami. I connect businesses with our high school students for internships.

Since 1958, the Academic Year Internship Program at Miami-Dade County Public Schools has helped hundreds of businesses provide their time and talent to our juniors and seniors for the entire school year to prepare students to enter the workforce after graduation. Some of the reputable businesses who joined the program this year are Kennedys International Law, our local Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court judges, veterinary clinics, and small businesses, etc.
