Mathkru Massacre
The Matikhrü Massacre, took place on September 6, 1960, when forces of the 16th Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army committed an act of mass murder against the village of Matikhrü.

On September 6, 1960, the 16th Punjab Regiment posted at Kangjang village reached Matikhrü village at around 10:00 a.m. and surrounded the village in three rings to prevent any from escaping. All the villagers were then ordered to gather in one place with men folk were separated from women and children. The soldiers then started to hit the villagers with their gun butts demanding where the undergrounds are hiding and where the arms and ammunitions were kept.

Then the men were made to continuously jump and do sit-ups for more than five hours in the blistering sun. Wooden logs were rolled on their bodies and boiling water were poured on them. By late afternoon all women and children were threatened to leave. Then the Indian Army dragged all the men inside the house of the village chief where nine of them were butchered and beheaded to death.

Thah, the chief in his last words shouted to his men:

“It is a man's pride to sacrifice for his birth right, and I shall never surrender nor compromise. I am ready to sacrifice my life for the future generation of the Nagas.”

🥰🥰🥰India's reluctance to recognize the Naga Flag and Constitution is ridiculous. And I will tell you why. I urge the Naga younger generation to forebear the social media warrior ecosystem and be prepared for the challenging future as you are the cornerstone of the Nagas. 🥰🥰🥰

Through its Amsterdam Declaration in 2002, India officially recognized the unique history of the Nagas, and that the Naga nation has never signed any documents of accession with India during the process of the formation of the Indian Union.

These historical facts were given a personal stamp of approval by the then Deputy Prime Minister of India LK Advani. Thus, there is hardly any dispute with regard to the established status of the Nagas as a 'People' and the same has also been recognized by other sovereign nations including International bodies such as Unrepresented Nations and People's Organization (UNPO).

This official recognition of India affirms the reality that the Nagas were never part of India and that the Nagas are not Indian.

In the Framework Agreement of 2015, India has agreed to share sovereign power for an enduring inclusive new relationship of peaceful co-existence of the two entities.

After all these, the Indian government continues to indulge in 'political escapism' on Naga issue. The Central government is still pretentiously acting stubborn on the Naga flag and Constitution. In fact, India has no basis to occupy and colonize Nagalim any longer.

The reason why former Naga interlocuter, R.N. Ravi, doctored the Framework Agreement, by removing the word "New," is that the phrase, “New relationship,” strongly indicates outside the purview of the Indian Constitution. When the word “new” is removed, there is room for misinterpreting it as under Indian Constitution.

The Naga political issue is not a case of secessionist insurgency. The Naga political issue is a case of alien domination, subjugation, and exploitation. The Indian Army has been terrorizing the Naga people since they invaded the Naga Hills in 1954. Over the past 70 years, the Nagas have taken a continued stand for their independence. The Nagas are a unique people, different from India, with their own language, culture, and religion. 🥰🥰🥰

Naga Club Memo to Simon Commission 1929

To

The Indian Statutory Commission,
Camp India,

Memorandum of the Naga Hills
January 10, 1929

[Original letter dated 26.3.28/March 26, 1928]

Sir,

We, the undersigned Nagas of the Naga Club at Kohima who are the only person at present who can voice for our people have heard with great regret that our Hills included within the Reformed Scheme of India without our knowledge, but as the administration of our Hills continued to be in the hands of the British Officers we did not consider it necessary to raise any protest in the past. Now learn that you come to India as representatives to the British Government to enquire into the working of the system of Government and the growth of the education and we beg to submit below our view with the prayer that our Hills may be withdrawn from the Reformed Scheme and placed outside the Reforms but directly under British Government. We never asked any reforms and we do not wish for any reforms.

Before the British Govt. conquered our country in 1879-1880, we were living in a state of intermittent warefare with the Assamese of the Assam valley to the North and West of our country and Manipuries in the South. They never conquered us, nor were we ever subjected to their rule. On the under other hand, we were always a terror to these people. Our country within the administered area consists of more than Eight tribes, quite different from one another with quite different languages which cannot be understood by each other, and there are more tribes outside the administered area which are not known at present. We have no unity among us and it is realy the British Government that is holding us together now.

Our education at present is poor, the occupation of our country by the British Government being so recent as 1880, we have had no chances or opportunity to improve in education and though we can boast of two or three graduates of an Indian University in our country, we have not got on yet who is able to represent all our different tribes or master our language much less one to represent us in any council of province, Moreover, our population numbering 1,02,000 is very small in comparison with the population of the plains districts in the province, and any representation that may be allotted to be in the council will be negligible and will have no weight whatever. Our language is quite different from those of the plains and we have no social affinities with Hindus or Muslims. We are looked down upon by one of our ‘Beef’ and the other for our ‘Pork’ and both for our want in education which is not due to any fault of ours.

Our Country is poor and it does not pay for its administration. The reforms, if it is continued to be made placed under the Reformed Scheme we are afraid that new heavy taxes will have to be imposed on us and when we cannot pay them all our land will have to be sold and in the long run we shall have no share in the land of our birth and life will not be worth living them. Though our land at present is within the British territory, Government have always recognized our private rights in it. But if we are forced to enter the council of the majority all these rights may be extinguished by unsympathetic council the majority of whose number is sure to belong to the Plain District. We also have much fear the introduction of foreign laws and customs to supersed our customary laws which are now enjoy.

For the above reasons, We pray that the British Government will continue to safeguard our rights against all encroachments from other people who are more advance than us by withdrawing our country from the reformed scheme and placing it directly under its own protection. If the British Government however, wants to throw us away, we pray that we should not be thrust to the mercy of the people who could never subjugate us, but to leave us alone to determine for ourselves as in the ancient times. We claim (not only the numbers of the Naga Club) to represent all these tribes to which we belong: Angami, Kacha-Nagas, Kukis, Semas, Lotha and Rengmas.

Amsterdam Declaration: India recognizes uniqueness of Naga case

A historic breakthrough was made by the NSCN and the Government of India. The representative of the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland met in Amsterdam from 9 July - 11 July, 2002 for peace talks. It was mutually decided that there is clear evidence reflecting the uniqueness of the Naga’s case.

Over the past 50 years the Naga’s have taken a continued stand for their independence. At the time of India’s declaration of independence from the British Throne a Naga delegation met with Mahatma Gandhi with a request for their independence from India.
Gandhi agreed to this and stated that “ the Nagas have every right to be independent.” However with the coming into power of Jawalal Nehru, this agreement made with Gandhi was no longer honored.

Although the nine point agreement entitled the Nagas administrative authority over themselves, Nehru never complied to this and the agreement was completely ignored.

This was the beginning of years of struggle for the Naga’s right to self-determination and independence from India, a recognized independence, for the truth is that Nagaland has never been a part of India.

In 1950, when the Union of the Republic of India was formed, almost all joined under Gandhi’s terms; however, the Naga’s refused to join, they were not a part of India and they wished it to remain so.

The Nagas are a unique people, different from India, with their own language, culture and religion. India used harsh measures to weaken the resolve of the Naga people, but to no avail. Although their villages were burned, some up to twenty times, and they were driven into the jungle, they still remained firm in their stance to be recognized as separate from India.

After years of this, finally, in 1994 India came forward and stated that a military solution was no longer possible. At this point the Government of India asked the Nagas to come forward for peace talks.

These talks were mostly treated as law and order issues, with no real recognition of the Naga’s right to independence that was clearly given them by Mahatma Gandhi.

The Nagas demanded that the talks be unconditional and would not settle for terms within the frame of the Indian Constitution. The Nagas stated: We will honor your word, we will certainly honor it, yet we must make our position quite clear, the Nagas will never accept the forced occupation of their land by Indian forces, we will have a negotiated settlement only.”

Three points have remained a foundation for the structure of these negotiations. The people of Nagaland will not relinquish their right as a people, their faith in God nor their Social Democratic form of Government.

The fact that the Naga’s have never been a part of India and that they were given their independence by the Father of India, Mahatma Gandhi, was recalled at the peace negotiations in Amsterdam.

For the first time in the history of the Naga’s struggle for independence the Indian Government has acknowledged these facts. The Naga political issue is a case of alien domination, subjugation, and exploitation.

The Naga nation has never signed any documents of accession with India during the process of the formation of the Indian Union. Naga issue is not a case of secessionist insurgency.

In a joint communiqué signed in Amsterdam 11 July, 2002 between The General Secretary of the NSCN, Th. Muivah, and The Representative of the Government of India, K. Padmanabhaiah, the Government of India formally recognized the unique history and situation of the Naga people.

It was agreed that talks should continue in an accommodative and forward-looking manner so that a lasting and honorable solution can be arrived at.

Prime Minister Vajpayee has invited the Chairman and the General Secretary of the NSCN to come to India to continue peace dialogues at their earliest convenience.

Both parties are encouraged to proceed in this direction. It was mutually decided to extend the cease-fire for another year beginning from 1 August, 2002.

Does the Indian Army need the Armed Forces Special Power Act, AFSPA in short, to combat the Naga Army? Why did the Indian Army murder 14 Naga civilians? What is the need for such an act of terrorism?

For those who are baffled and dumbfounded by this barbaric terrorist activist of the Indian Army, be prepared to hear the hard truth.

It is not a new thing for the Naga people. The Indian Army has been terrorizing the Naga people since they invaded the Naga Hills in 1954.

The Indian government and the Indian media is hiding facts about the history of the Nagas. The Naga political issue is a case of foreign domination and subjugation. And the Nagas are defying the oppressor with an aspiration for self-determinism.

The Naga political issue began long before India got its independence in 1947. It is unthinkable that India invaded the Naga Hills in 1954. India should know the best about freedom. After all, they suffered from the British's 200+ years of subjugation.

Mahatma Gandhi famously stated that "Nagas have every right to be independence," and upon this assurance, the Nagas declared their independence on 14 August 1947. The United Nations acknowledged the receipt of this communique but did not act on it.

The Naga plebiscite of 1951, in which 99.9% of the people voted for an independent Naga state, is an affirmation of the Naga Declaration of independence on 14 August 1947 from all alien domination, subjugation, and exploitation.

The Nagas then boycotted the first-ever Indian general elections in 1952. All these collective truths demonstrate the moral and political consensus of the Naga struggle for self-determination and reiterate the uniqueness of Naga history and situation.

In 2002, the Government of India through its Amsterdam Declaration officially recognized the ‘unique history of the Nagas,' and that the “Naga nation has never signed any documents of accession with India during the process of the formation of the Indian Union."

Naga issue is not a case of secessionist insurgency.

Prof. R.K. Roy Burman, an Indian social scientist, stated that "the Naga people undoubtedly constitute a nation. Historically, they are not Indian."

General F.A Vyas of the Indian Army said "Naga insurgents never adopted terror tactics." Murkot Ramuny, the notorious Indian Security Commissioner who created a reign of terror in Naga areas for many years, stated in his writing, "the Nagas do not kill civilians."

But why are the Indian Army killing Naga civilians? What the Indian Army is doing is against internationally recognized human rights including the Geneva Convention.

On 31 March 2012, the UN asked India to revoke AFSPA saying it had no place in Indian democracy.

Does the Indian Army need AFSPA to combat the Naga Army?
No, they don't need AFSPA to combat the Naga Army.

The Indian Army can locate the Naga Army, their bases in the jungle, and attack them anytime. The Naga people don't have any problem with that. Two armed men fighting is the way of the warrior.

But that is not what the Indian Army wants to do; they want to harass and kill Naga civilians. But why? To kill their spirit and aspiration.

To the world, Nagaland may look like a part of India. The reality is something else. The reason why it's so easy for the Indian Army to kill Naga people is that they don't consider the Nagas as Indian but as Chinese.

For more than 70 years, the Indian Army has been sending this message: If the Naga Army attacks us, we kill the Naga civilians. And that's what happened recently at Oting village.

The Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, his family, and four Quick Reaction Team personnel were killed in an ambush by militants in Churachandpur district of Manipur.

The Indian Army wanted to take revenge for this. But the Indian military's lack of courage, discipline, and combat preparedness to fight the Naga Army led to the murder of 14 Naga civilians.

They then tried to change the deceased person's clothes with military outfits to prove that those killed were Naga Army.

What we must not forget here is: The Para 21 Special Forces of the Indian Army are based in Jorhat, Assam. They would have had to be brought into Eastern Nagaland for this operation. And to do this, they need clearance from the highest level of security establishment in India.

The Nagas are rising against this controversial Indian law called the Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958. They are gaining momentum and support from neighboring states. However, they must tread this with a holistic approach envisioning the future.

The Indian government and the Indian Army are not likely to move an inch. And so, their attitude towards the Nagas will remain the same. They will continue to argue that AFSPA is needed to combat militants in the Northeast when it has failed miserably.

AFSPA is not for real men with balls. It exists only to harass and kill civilians and get impunity. However, this killing trend may lead to a mass uprising in the Northeast giving the best opportunity for China to strike India's chicken neck.

You see the future of the Northeast lies in uncertainty. But one thing is certain, Nagas will never live happily within the failed Indian system. Moreover, the Nagas and Indians are historically, culturally, and racially world apart.

Freedom has a price. Most people aren't willing to pay it. The Nagas fought against the British for freedom. The Nagas are fighting against India for freedom, and the Nagas will have to fight against Myanmar for freedom. Of course, if freedom is what they are looking for.
