Breaking: Peter Obi Escapes Plane Crash

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi was among the over 100 passengers reported to have escaped plane crash at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Tuesday.

Aviation sources confirmed that Obi who was in Economy Class was in the Airpeace plane with flight number P47123 when it took off from Abuja on Tuesday.

The take off was scheduled for 12:35 but it eventually took off by 12:59.

The Airpeace plane was to land 1:55 but landed 2:25 with approximately 30 minutes behind schedule, the report said.

Sources, according to the report, said for about 30 minutes the pilot lost control leaving the plane to hover instilling fear and trembling on passengers.

“It’s was a nasty experience. The plane made many attempts to land but had to retreat. The passengers were jolted. People were praying and casting out the devil as the plane’s destiny was uncertain.

“At a point it was as if the plane would crash on many houses,” one of the passengers who does not wish to be named said.

The passenger said the experience underlines the fragile nature of Nigeria and how the natural disaster could plunge the country into a major civil strive or even war.

“Nigerian Leaders need to fix the country and avoid potential causes of disasters like this, which has serious implications for national security, ”one of the passengers was quoted saying.

A mother of two said she almost gave up as the plane hovered aimlessly between ascending or descending into chaos, according to the report.

“Peter Obi was in the plane. Many lost hope. We thought the plane would crash. Obi was calm and resolute. He was telling people around him to be calm that all would be well.

“We thank God we survived. No one would have believed it was an accident if the plane had crashed with Peter Obi inside, ”another passenger was quoted saying.

He said while other passengers were in great confusion, Peter Obi was comforting them that they should trust in God.

A businessman in the plane, Dr Benson Onuwaje was said to have summoned courage by standing up to pray for everybody telling them all would be well.

“The man Dr Onuwaje is a man of courage. He is a man of God. He rose up and started praying. He was in the first class.

” He called the name of God and assured us that we would land safely. We thank God our prayer was answered, ”Mathew Adekunle who was on the plane said.

Obi who recently donated N20million to flood victims in Niger State had been visiting some communities in Northern Nigeria after which he returned to Abuja for a scheduled political meeting.

Obi was said to have left Lagos for Abuja that afternoon for another meeting.

“We thank God we all landed safely. God protected all of us including Peter Obi, ” one of the passengers was also quoted.

President Tinubu Meets Suspended Rivers Governor Fubara Amidst Ongoing Political Crisis |Ikoro 93.3 FM

In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu met with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on June 3, 2025, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to resolve the political crisis that has engulfed Rivers State since March.

Governor Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, following President Tinubu's declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The President cited political instability and governance challenges as reasons for the suspension, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the state's administrator for an initial period of six months .

The recent meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Fubara suggests a possible move towards resolving the political crisis in Rivers State. While details of their discussion have not been made public, the engagement indicates ongoing efforts to address the state's governance issues.

Previously, in April 2025, President Tinubu and Governor Fubara held a meeting in London to discuss the political situation in Rivers State .

The political crisis in Rivers State has drawn national attention, with various stakeholders expressing concern over the suspension of the state's elected officials. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has argued that President Tinubu lacks the constitutional power to remove Governor Fubara under the pretext of a state of emergency .

As discussions continue, the outcome of these high-level meetings remains to be seen. The people of Rivers State and the nation at large await resolutions that will restore democratic governance and stability in the state.

BREAKING: Isialangwa To Honour Immigration Officer Ugochukwu Orji for Exceptional Integrity| IKORO FM 93.3

In a remarkable show of community pride and recognition for integrity, the people of Isialangwa have resolved to honour Mr. Ugochukwu Orji, an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, during a grand civic reception being to held today, Saturday 31st May, 2025 in honour of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

The event, which had earlier been announced as a tribute to the Governor’s exemplary leadership, will now also celebrate the outstanding ethical conduct of Officer Orji, popularly known as Okeosisi Ugo. The immigration officer, who hails from Obikabia in Isialangwa North Local Government Area, is being praised for his unwavering integrity after he reportedly turned down a bribe of N10 million and expensive mobile phones offered by a native doctor from Enugu State, who was attempting to escape justice for a serious crime.

The lawmaker revealed that he personally reached out to the Immigration Department to request the officer’s release for the ceremony. He also confirmed that Orji’s flight and other logistics have been fully handled.

“This is the kind of honour we should be bestowing — not just to celebrate power, but to celebrate principle. Officer Ugochukwu Orji has made Isialangwa proud, and today we are showing the world that honesty is still alive in Nigeria,” Hon. Onwusibe said.

The dual honour event is expected to draw political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and the general public as Isialangwa celebrates two of its sons — one for transformational governance and the other for exemplary moral courage.

Additionally, a meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), which was originally scheduled to take place at the sealed secretariat, has been relocated to Legacy House, the party's presidential campaign office located in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory.

The sealing of the PDP headquarters follows rising tensions between the party and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Wike, a former PDP governor, declared on Sunday that he would “fight for justice” within the party.

Before the meeting began, journalists were asked to leave to ensure the privacy of the session.

Renewed Hope Food Outreach: Abia Government is Committed to the Success of the Program in the State – ABSOA D.G | IKORO FM 93.3

The Director-General of the Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA), Ure Abazie, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State government, under the leadership of Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, to collaborate with government entities, corporate organizations, and individuals whose programs aim to enhance the lives of the people of Abia and contribute to the state's development.

Abazie made these remarks while speaking at the sidelines of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Food Outreach Scheme, a project led by Nigeria's First Lady, H.E. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, which took place on May 23, 2025, at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State.

The ABSOA Director-General echoed Governor Otti's sentiments expressed in his speech at the event titled "Compassion in Difficult Times." He emphasized that the poverty and hunger faced by many Nigerians require comprehensive programs focused on job creation and entrepreneurship opportunities. He underscored that effective implementation of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) programs would provide long-term benefits that improve lives.

Abazie also expressed the Abia State government's strong commitment to ensuring the program's success within the state. He highlighted the dedication of the State Coordinator of the program and the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, who is fully committed to the program's success. As a demonstration of this commitment, the Abia First Lady provided an additional 3,000 bags of 10 kg rice, supplementing those already donated by the RHI.

She has also committed to distributing all food items to vulnerable groups and women across the state in the coming weeks.

The ABSOA Director-General reminded everyone that there is a new Abia under Governor Otti—an Abia that prioritizes the interests of its people first.

Nigeria Needs Compulsory Voting — But Is the Nation Ready? ~ Youth /Civic Right Advocate , Ekejiuba | # IKORO FM 93.3

As Nigeria continues to struggle with declining voter turnout and persistent election irregularities, civic advocate Daberechi Kingsley Ekejiuba has renewed his call for compulsory voting, asserting that it could be the game-changer the nation needs. But he also cautions that the system must be reformed first to make such a move feasible.

Ekejiuba, a youth civic engagement expert, draws inspiration from his late grandfather, Ekejiuba Nnubia, a principled subsistence farmer who was deeply interested in public affairs. “He would always remind me that there’s hardly any road no man has traveled,” Ekejiuba recalls. That wisdom, he says, is more relevant than ever as Nigeria faces the entrenched problem of voter apathy.

Despite electoral reforms such as the reduction of political parties to 18 and the introduction of electronic voting in the 2023 general elections, voter turnout remained abysmally low. With over 65% of registered voters staying away from the polls, billions of naira spent by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) effectively went to waste. Ekejiuba notes that more than 67 million ballot papers were unused, resulting in a financial loss of at least ₦670 million on paper alone.

“Democracy suffers most not from autocrats but from citizens who take their freedom for granted,” he said. “Silence is betrayal. When we refuse to participate, we hand over power to those who do not represent us.”

Countries like Australia, Belgium, and Brazil have made voting mandatory and seen dramatic increases in civic participation—often with turnout rates above 85%. Ekejiuba believes Nigeria could benefit similarly but acknowledges key structural challenges. With a GDP per capita of just $807, compared to Brazil’s $10,822 and Australia’s $64,547, Nigeria lacks both the economic and institutional frameworks these countries enjoy.

To address this, he is calling for a multi-pronged approach:

Launch a National Civic Education Program with support from civil society and youth organizations.

Amend the Constitution to remove presidential powers to appoint INEC’s leadership, thereby enhancing institutional independence.

Mandate electronic transmission of votes to improve transparency and reduce post-election disputes.

Pilot compulsory voting at local and state levels before nationwide adoption.

Use non-punitive disincentives rather than harsh fines to encourage participation, recognizing the economic realities facing most Nigerians.

Adapt global best practices to Nigeria’s unique cultural and political context.

“Compulsory voting should be a means to an end—not the end itself,” Ekejiuba emphasized. “If properly implemented, it can promote accountability, reduce election violence, and ultimately strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.”

With elections becoming increasingly expensive and public trust in decline, the policy advocate warns that the cost of doing nothing is far greater than the risks of bold reform.

“Nigeria must choose: remain stuck in the cycle of apathy and irregularities, or rise to build a democracy where every voice counts,” he said.
