📢 Announcement 📢

Good morning all. I have been on an emotional roller coaster for the past few years. A lot of things happening that have felt like they were out of my control. It’s made me sad, anxious, tired and at some points not want to be here. Its exhausting and as an introvert it has made it extremely difficult for me to show up for myself and others. It’s made me apathetic and disconnected. That’s a place I don’t want to be in. So, while I work on this, I’m going to need some time. I’m still going to be creating but without any pressure. Wish you all a happy and love filled day ❤️

Ep. 28: Why it’s hard to be an “awkward” black girl🎙

In this episode I discuss what it’s like to be an “awkward” black girl. Black woman are often stereotyped as “loud”, “aggressive” and “rude”. As a result, those who don’t fit this stereotype often feel othered or are tokenized and labeled as “model” black folk. In this episode I talk about how that can be harmful and the best way to combat these stereotypes. Hope you enjoy it!

✨ Friday Affirmation ✨

5️⃣ x out loud & 5️⃣ x in your head

Happy Friday everyone!

Those of us who live with social anxiety often look for validation instead of connection. We act in ways we think others around us will approve of, because we are so afraid of disapproval.

However, when your thoughts and actions don't align with your values, it can be mentally and emotionally draining.

Instead you should seek to connect, and find people with interest similar to yours. People who will accept you for who you are. Those who amplify your light, instead of dimming it.

✨ Detach from your thoughts ✨

Social Anxiety can be mentally, emotionally and even physically consuming. There are so many times when I plan to do something, but my socially anxious thoughts get the best of me.

I would tell myself that "I wasn't worthy" and "I couldn't do it". Part of the problem was having those thoughts, however the other problem was identifying with those thoughts.

It is very easy to believe that what we think is a reflection of who we are, but they a result of protective and repetitive patterns.

When you find yourself in the middle of a negative thought spiral, stop and take these steps:

1️⃣ Detach: I am having these thoughts, but that does not mean they are accurate or a reflection of who I am.

2️⃣ Reframe: This thought is not helpful, so I am going to reframe it in a way that is.

3️⃣ Release: This thought pattern does not serve me in this moment, so I release it and come back to the present moment.

😊 Happiness 😊

All of us want it, but only a few of us are able to attain it. Anxiety often has us caught up in thoughts of the past and thinking about what we want for our future. Thus we forget to be grateful for what we have in THIS moment and draw our happiness from that. There is a blessing in everything, you just have to train your brain to see them more often.

✨ Happy Monday All ✨

Part of dealing with Social Anxiety is learning to reframe negative thought patterns and self-beliefs. We often tell ourselves that we are unlikable and unworthy of the things we desire. As a result, we act in ways that reinforce those beliefs. Above I have listed some common negative self-beliefs those with SA often have, and thoughts to help combat them.

✨ Gratitude ✨

When you are low, and feel like a victim of your circumstances, remember to practice gratitude. No matter who you are, there is always something to be grateful for.

Those of us with Social Anxiety often feel like victims. We don't understand why we are the way we are. Why can't we just be "normal"? We feel as if we don't belong and often have a hard time practicing gratitude. It feels like the whole world is against us.

However, regardless of what our mind is telling us, we are here for a reason. You are alive, you do belong, and you have a purpose.

✨ Happy Hump Day ✨

A few fast facts about social anxiety. Affecting more than 1 in 10 people, it is more common than we think. However, it affects every person to varying degrees. Some people are able to function and lead relatively normal lives, while others are completely debilitated. It is important that we continue to talk about SA and share this information so that people can seek the help they need.

🚨 New Podcast Schedule 🚨

Hey everyone, hope you are enjoying your Monday! I wanted to let any fans of the show know that I will be changing the release schedule. I will now be realeasing the show tri-weekly instead of daily. The reasons being:

1.) Five 12 minute episodes per week is a lot to manage. I also honestly feel like that’s too much information for one week!
2.) The more hours your record and put out, the more money you have to pay in podcast hosting fees. I am almost at my cap and still have two weeks left. The next level up is too many hours, and doesn’t feel worth it.

Hope you guys understand, but you will still be getting three episodes a week! That means the next episode will be out Wednesday 2/4/22!
