MPs battle in House of Commons for Doncaster Airport
Yesterday in the House of Commons Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher gave a passionate speech about the ongoing fight to save Doncaster Sheffield airport.
Ahead of the Adjournment Debate, Mr Fletcher addressed the commons and asked why members of the opposition had only taken an interest in the airport over the last fortnight rather than in the last three years when it was struggling.
He also asked that if the combined authority had done its job sooner, the airport would not be in the position it is in now.
The airport owners Peel Group have agreed to meet with potential investors but said it will continue its plan to wind down the airport from 31 October.
Over the weekend, hundreds of protesters marched in solidarity after their petition gained over 100,000 signatures to keep the airport open.

Hundreds protest against Doncaster Sheffield closure
GMB organiser Sarah Barnes said there was a chance the airport could be saved if "Peel did the right thing".
Owners Peel have agreed to meet with potential investors but said it will continue its plan to wind down the airport from 31 October. MP Nick Fletcher will today, deliver a speech to Parliament in the latest effort to save the site.
Workers, union officials, Doncaster MPs and members of the public were involved in the rally outside the airport.
Ms Barnes said to the BBC: "There's a genuine chance we can save our amazing airport, if Peel decides to do the right thing.
"If they won't, we need the Government to step in and use the powers and influence they have."
Last week, airport workers went Parliament to hand in a 100,00 strong petition in their fight to save the site.
"The only reason they've turned it down is they think they can make more cash closing their airport and flogging the site for housing.
"That is not good for the people of South Yorkshire and we cannot let them get away with it."
Peel has previously said it has worked "tirelessly" to secure the airport's future.
Mayor Ros Jones stated previous that after writing to Prime Minister Liz Truss potential buyers have been found, with the Peel Group confirming they would consider 'any tangible offers' and 'several interested investors who want to negotiate on the purchase.'
The announcement that Doncaster Sheffield airport would close was met with widespread anger and disappointment, but now their luck could be turning for the better.
The Mayor stated: "We are now urging the Prime Minister, her Secretary of State for Transport and indeed all of her Cabinet to halt the closure of DSA and compel Peel to accept our offer of financial support and negotiate with those parties interested in buying DSA."

MPs call fracking vote 'absolute disgrace'
Last night in the House of Commons Conservative MPs were reportedly bullied and manhandled into backing Liz Truss in a vote on fracking.
Cabinet ministers, believed to include Jacob Rees-Mogg and Thérèse Coffey, reportedly manhandled and physically dragged MPs, with some being left in tears.
Roughly 40 MPs didn't vote as none could decide if it was a test of confidence vote in Ms Truss or a vote on fracking.
Speaking to the BBC, backbencher Charles Walker called the situation an "absolute disgrace", adding that there was "no coming back" for the government.
He also shared his intent to leave parliament voluntarily, telling BBC's World Tonight: "I expect the prime minister to resign very soon because she's not up to her job."

Protester compares himself to Martin Luther King
Morgan Trowland, 39, is one of two Just Stop Oil demonstrators who attached themselves to the Queen Elizabeth II bridge in London.
The incident which has now come to an end is the latest in a string of disruptive demonstrations staged by the organisation.
The closure of the M25 at the crossing caused delays of two hours and six miles of congestion.
Now, Trowland has compared himself and others in the group to activists such as Dr Martin Luther King and the Suffragettes.
Speaking to Sky News he said: "Many people will get angry about this and I understand that anger.
“But in other times in history the Suffragettes were widely hated by most of the population. For decades they did much more extreme acts of disobedience.
"Martin Luther King was reviled in America in the early 1960s - sometimes people hate the thing that needs to come next."
Just Stop Oil says it has no plans to end its demonstrations anytime soon.

Plans for injunction to stop oil protesters
Protesters from the campaign group Just Stop Oil caused havoc in London yesterday as the blocked access to Park Lane and spray painted the Aston Martin showroom windows orange.
The demonstrators, who glued themselves to the tarmac, are calling for the government to halt all new oil and gas licences.
It comes after Home Secretary Suella Braverman outlined plans to crack down on such protests as part of the Public Order Bill.
Ms Braverman, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Nadhim Zahawi have reportedly met to apply for a new injunction against Just Stop Oil causing disruption on London's roads.
Transport for London already has an order against Insulate Britain, which engages in similar activities, but a separate one needs to be taken out for Just Stop Oil.
Many members of the public are calling for stronger action to target protesters who block busy road, what do you think is the right course of action?
