Hardcore friends and families! Just a friendly reminder that the recommended last day to send mail is 07 March 2024. “Mail cut-off” is the last day that we recommend people to send mail to Soldiers. Mail sent after this date will likely not reach your Soldier while they are still here at Fort Jackson. (It will follow them but take some time.)

Hardcore family; today is officially “Family Day”!! During Family Day, our Soldiers will have the opportunity to walk around Post and explore all it has to offer. On Fort Jackson, we have a Starbucks, a Burger King, and a Charleys Philly Steaks just to name a few (all of which they are able to eat at for the first time since arriving). Soldiers are not allowed to walk and talk on their phones at the same time (not just here at Fort Jackson, that is an Army-wide policy).
Prior to picking up your Soldier families will be given a brief by the Battalion Commander and Battalion Command Sergeant Major. In this brief you will be told what you can and cannot do with your Soldier while on Fort Jackson, as well as, where you can and cannot go. You will also be briefed the time that the Soldiers need to be back for final formation.
Today’s Recondo Report is titled, “Hurry-up and wait”. If you have not heard your Soldier use the phrase, we are confident you will soon. Before moving on to AIT we wanted to make sure you had perspective regarding schedules and military life. Change is a constant in military life. So, whether it is the return date from a deployment or when your Soldier will receive orders, be prepared for schedules to change and remember Operational Security (never post dates of movement or numbers of Soldiers involved online.)

Hardcore family! Did you know that we are already halfway through Basic Combat Training (BCT)? Early on, we talked about how BCT in many ways is like your first deployment. During deployments communication with your Soldier can be sporadic at best. Depending on the location of the deployment, you may not have good internet communication and may only have the US mail, very similar to the current situation.
Deployments can be challenging; so, make sure you’re taking care of yourself. From Army Community Services to Army Wellness Centers and the Chaplain to the Military Family Life Counselor, there are a variety of resources both virtual and in person to help with self-care. Check-out a summary below.
