How the First Christians Were Weird, Dangerous and Compelling.

In this episode, Nijay K Gupta and I go back to the first century. In the Greco-Roman culture there were gods everywhere, blood and smoke from their sacrifices filled the air, icons of gods were on every corner.

And here come the Christians – believers in the unseen, in the supremacy of Jesus, in the finished sacrifice of Jesus, meeting in homes instead of temples and the culture around them thought they were weird. They were dangerous. They were compelling. We talk about their different beliefs and practices.

Join us as we discover how the first Christians were weird, dangerous and compelling.

It's time to put Jesus back at the head where He belongs!

In a must-listen episode, Lance Ford challenges us to reimagine Christian leadership. He shows how modern concepts like "the leader" and "management theory" have distorted our view of what the Bible teaches.

Jesus promised His yoke would be easy and burden light. But too often we've put all the pressure on just a few overworked individuals. Ford urges us to stop and consider - is this really what Jesus had in mind?

He traces the history of how business models infiltrated the church. And he shares powerful insights from Paul on finding strength in weakness rather than human power plays.

You'll be challenged but also inspired by Ford's vision of each part of Christ's body freely sharing its unique gifts. It's time to stop shouldering the weight alone and let the true Head direct us once more.

Tune in to the Shifting Culture Podcast now to get your perspective shifted on what leadership in the church was always meant to look like!

As you start your Lenten journey, join me and guest Brian Zahnd on the Shifting Culture Podcast as we reflect on a kaleidoscopic view of the cross.

Lent is a time of reflection on Jesus' suffering and death on the cross. Standing in the light of the cross acknowledges the difficult truths it reveals about suffering in the world.

The cross challenges our tendency to seek power over others. During Lent, we are called to examine how we can relinquish power and pride, instead embracing humility and service as Jesus modeled.

Allowing the truth of the cross to emanate within us means grappling with how it confronts our own pursuit of power and comfort. This type of introspection is at the heart of the Lenten journey.

Facing the cross' challenging message courageously, as this quote encourages, can spark spiritual transformation as we draw closer to Christ's example of sacrificial love.

Lent provides an opportunity to meditate on how the cross subverts worldly systems of power and calls us to live according to the higher power of God's love and forgiveness.
