Mabuhay MARILAO!

The Divine Mercy Statue in Marilao, Bulacan, is a 45.72 m (150.0 ft) Roman Catholic monument of Jesus Christ as the Divine Mercy. It is the tallest statue of the Divine Mercy in the Philippines.

The Divine Mercy Statue project in Marilao, Bulacan, was a concept by Filipino priest Prospero Tenorio, who is also the secretary general of the Asian office of the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM) and the shrine rector and parish priest of the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy.[1]

Construction of the statue began in January 2016[2] and was unveiled on January 19, 2017, as part of the 4th WACOM, the first edition of the congress held in Asia,[3] despite the project only being 70 percent complete with finishing touches to be done on the statue's neck and shoulders.[1]

A Mass was held as part of the inauguration, with Nigerian Bishop Martin Uzoukwu officiating in lieu of Malolos Bishop Jose Francisco Oliveros who is already too weak due to prostate cancer.[1] The Mass was attended by around 5,000 people.[4]

At the time of its inauguration, it was the tallest statue of the Divine Mercy in the Philippines.[4]

Architecture and design
Edit

The Divine Mercy Statue is situated within the grounds of the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy. The structure consists of a statue and a building which serves as its podium. The statue alone stands 30.48 meters (100.0 ft) high while the building it stands on is 15.24 meters (50.0 ft) high.[1] The whole structure has a height of 45.72 m (150.0 ft).[1] The building serves as a multi-purpose hall and a dormitory.[5] The design is based on the original painting of the divine mercy and interpreted and sculpted in 3d software. After the design process and 3d sculpting it is 3d printed part by part using the modern large format 3d printing and then coated by fiber glass to make the sculpture last long

Local construction, architectural, and engineering firm V.B. Columna was involved in the project.

Brief History of Marilao Bulacan

Mabuhay Marilao!

Marilao is a short for Maria de la O, or the Pregnant Virgin of Expectation, a devotion popularized by Franciscan missionaries throughout Spain's colonies, and also by Spaniards leaving Spain from the port of San Lucar de Barrameda, in Cadiz of the Andalucia region. The church of Santa Maria de la O in Cadiz was associated closely with the family of the Duke of Medina Sidonia, the oldest and highest dukedom title just under that of the royal family, and a supporter of the Franciscan order. Long before the establishment as an independent town, Marilao traces its origin as little as a barrio. It was initially a barrio of its neighboring town Meycauayan and the Franciscan missionaries from Meycauayan built a visita (chapel) dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel.

Marilao, just like Pangil, a town in Laguna, Philippines, was under the stewardship of the Franciscan order.

On April 21, 1796, the Barrio of Marilao was established as a pueblo as approved by the Alcalde Mayor of Bulacan and the Franciscan friars of Meycauayan, with the approval of Archbishop of Manila, the visita of San Miguel Arcangel became a town church where Padre Vicente de Talavera served as its parish priest. In 1913, Marilao completely became an independent town.
