Covid almost killed gyms — SweatCycle founder Mimi Benz explains why they need $30 billion to come back.
With so many other industries, like theaters, restaurants and bars receiving specialized Covid relief funds, gym owners are looking for help, too. The Global Health & Fitness Association, an industry group for gyms, has been pushing for a federal aid package. The GYMS Act, a bipartisan bill under consideration in Congress, would dedicate $30 billion to affected businesses.

Mimi Benz, a certified Pilates and cycling instructor, and founder of the Los Angeles-based Sweat Cycle, is one person who has been advocating for the bill. Although her business is hanging on, she’s faced considerable challenges as she has tried to stay on top of public health concerns in the pandemic.

What about this story? 💡🚀 Tito's Handmade Vodka

Tito's Vodka was founded in 1997. His license for a micro distillery was the first issued in the United States since Prohibition.

In 1993, there wasn't a single distiller in the state of Texas. Bert "Tito" Beveridge, his real name, was inspired to launch Tito's Handmade Vodka after a late-night infomercial.

The company is now the best-selling vodka in the U.S., and the second-best-selling distilled spirit. Sales of Tito's have almost doubled in the last five years. Though the company’s financials are not public, it’s been reported that Tito’s sells more than 10.35 million cases a year, has an estimated revenue of $1.4 billion dollars, and has made Beveridge a billionaire many times over. The company is said to have a valuation of $2.5 billion. 🍸💰

So the experts say that "Revolution doesn't happen when society adopts new technology, it happens when society adopts new behaviors", and Apple just announced that shops will be able to accept contactless payments using an iPhone. So is this new tech or new social behavior at this point?

Insights overview:
❗️In 2020, the global market for self-checkout systems was valued at $3.1 billion, and by 2026, it is predicted to nearly double to $5.9 billion.
❗️Contactless checkouts are expected to rise in popularity in 2022, according to the Forrester analyst organization.
❗️Self- checkout is becoming more popular as a way to make in-store shopping as quick and convenient as buying anything online.
❗️The clothing tags have a dual purpose: they provide security while also allowing customers to scan and make transactions.
❗️Consumers are increasingly opting for hybrid shopping, which involves ordering things online and picking them up afterwards.
❗️Smartshelf, Skip, Mishipay, AiFi, and Signpost are some of the IT companies that are assisting businesses in getting on board.-Scandit is collaborating with retailers such as Levi's, Aldo, and Sephora to offer self- service checkouts via mobile devices.
❗️Customers can scan purchases and check out through smartphone app, eliminating the need to wait in lines (on average, this takes a total of 12 seconds).
