My Norfolk Pine.
Shes getting to be too big for my house.😅 She has been through a lot that is certain. If she struggles over winter, I will have no other choice but to cut the tops off and hopefully be able to sprout roots and she takes off.

Once her branches fall off, they don’t grow back. Also, when you cut the tops off, that’s all she wrote. She doesn’t regrow a top. But if I let her go how she is, she’ll continue to get new growth at the top.

We’ll see what happens over winter. I plan on buying some grow lights this coming payday. Not that I have all this extra money 😅 but unfortunately you got to do what you got to do.

This is my second Elephant Ear plant!
She is not as big as the first but she also has babies coming off of her, 3 to be exact!

I am still looking for a permanent pot for her, she’s not giving me a hard time until then so I appreciate her being respectful 😅😂 but I’d like a pot similar if not the same as the pot my first plant is in.. anyway,

Regardless, she’s living her best life. She gave off a new leaf and some smaller baby leaves. I also would like to separate at least one baby from her but not just yet.

I’ve come to love my Elephant Ears and I am so happy I didn’t pass up the opportunity to get them both!!

I brought my elephant ears out on the sidewalk so you guys can see her full beauty!!
I put her in that flower pot and she has been thriving ever since!!!

There is 2 separate babies on her which I would like to eventually break apart to create new plants. I may raise them to sell or have a giveaway of some sort, this coming Spring.
There is a new leaf on both baby plants.

She was pretty big when I first brought her home. She did catch spider mites.. but I caught it just in time and treated her and decided to keep her outside and she has been the happiest elephant ear ever! This is my first time owning an elephant ear plant also so this really excites me!

I hope to one day to get her so big she takes up a big portion of my room 😂🤣

I created a plant gift basket to donate towards a benefit dinner and I had SOO much fun making it. It was a flowerpot with a cute trellis with 6 different plants mixed together! I had a handful of items that went with the plant theme and some Fall decor, cute items I came across to add in with the house plant! So they had more than just the plant!

I had no idea how it was going to turn out beings I only had some ideas of what I wanted to do, but I had no idea what it was going to look like when it was finished.. but I just went with it and came across the perfect items for it and it turned out SO cute! I seriously felt like my mom was guiding me throughout the whole project, call me crazy.

I had so much fun making it.. and I was in a great place mentally throughout the whole thing, it was comforting. I have been talking about releasing small plant bouquets sometime this month but beings I had so much fun with the gift basket, I was thinking of making maybe 2 or 3 small plant baskets to raffle off for those who follow my page!
I will work out the details within the next day or so, but I was thinking $5 a spot, 10-15 spots, maybe 20. I would go live here on Facebook and enter everyone’s name on an online/google spin wheel to choose the winner, where everyone can watch live….

…OR…

Would you guys prefer me to continue with my original plan and create my plant bouquets instead. It will just be a plant with multiple plant clippings like I did with my giftbasket but just not as big of a flower pot. (I can include a picture of the one I made for those who haven’t seen) I will try to make them as affordable as possible. The money that’s raised, since my original plan, was going towards my plant room, mainly to get rid of my orange walls so I can start getting somewhere with my room.
I know the raffle would be more affordable but not everyone will win one, on the other hand the small bouquets, I would hope to be able to sell them at a price that’s fair for the both of us, I’m just not quite sure on the price yet but I don’t think it will be more than $20 per bouquet.

Anyway, lol I know it’s a lot to read, but what do you guys think?

I wanted to run it by everyone to see what you all think! Let me know! 🪴💚

I have been dealing with Spider Mites for the last week and a half.

Definitely making huge progress with these spider mites! I wasn’t playing around with this situation. I barely have enough time as it is, I can’t have this issue turn into a disaster.

First and most importantly.. in order to gain control of any pest situation, it’s helpful to understand what the pest needs in order to thrive. Once you start hindering their environment, you’re already gaining a step ahead of them.

Spider Mites can go from an egg to an adult in as little as one week under the absolute perfect temperature and humidity. Under normal conditions, like a typical household temperature and humidity, about 2 weeks give or take.

A few signs of spider mites, the leaves of the plant appear to be pale in color, yellowing, browning, and may I add if it “out of no where” starts happening, please don’t shove it off to it just being an old leaf, or because you forgot to water a few times, or something along them lines.. physically look over your plant. THAT was my first big mistake I made.
If the leaves have a dusty look to them, feel gritty, and/or you see tiny webs forming on or under the plant leaves and stems, which usually if you see webs that’s a sign of it starting to be a big problem if left unattended too much longer.

For indoor plants, they are likely to become a problem on under watered plants.
Over applying plant nutrients can also make your plant more susceptible.
On larger plants or areas/rooms with high number of plants and especially the ones close together or touching..
**May I add, this was a huge factor in my situation which I am correcting now that I understand what’s going on.
Spider Mites can be more difficult to spot and detect when they have more plant tissue and area to live and feed on which can cause them to reproduce faster.

They are able to crawl from one plant to another if the plants are close together. They also can travel from one plant to another by using their silky web which are delicate strands that are so feather light they easily sail on the winds outside OR air currents moving INDOORS. You also inadvertently help them travel as well in many different ways.

They prefer low humidity, dry conditions and warm temperatures.

To help rid an infected plant, before taking the chemical route, (which is what I have been doing on the plants I am ABLE to do this with) rinse the infected plant under running water making sure you get direct water contact on the underside of the leaves where they usually hang out at and lay their eggs. Make sure to RINSE THROUGHLY!
I rubbed my plant all over with my fingers to help ensure they were off. I also decided to change the soil and clean the flower pot they were in. I took neem oil and diluted it a bit and wiped the entire plant down with a dipped cotton ball.

To help prevent,
Make sure to form a habit to dust your plants and their leaves. Spider Mites like dusty leaves on plants that are suffering from water stress.
Wiping them periodically and try to keep a good watering schedule.
If possible keep humidity up around your plants. Periodically spray a fine mist on your plants or leave a container of water nearby to evaporate.
Keep your plant out of direct sunlight if possible by using a sheer curtain.

This is just what I have learned over the last 2 weeks of dealing with this mess. 😅 there is a lot more to learn about. I could of went in a more detailed explanation but I tried to sum it up the best I could with the most important points.

Anyway, I hope this helps a little for those who aren’t too familiar with Spider Mites. I did the hard work for you! 😂🤗

I think I might make another post with a bite more detail surrounding their stages of life and what not… yay or nay? What do you guys think?🫡
