رسول اللہ ﷺ سے پوچھا گیا : غیبت کیا ہے ؟ آپ نے فرمایا :’’ تمہارا اپنے بھائی کا ایسے ذکر کرنا جسے وہ ناپسند کرتا ہو ۔‘‘ تو صحابی نے پوچھا : جو بات میں کہہ رہا ہوں اگر وہ بر ائی میرے بھائی میں ہو ( تو بھی وہ غیبت ہو گی ؟ ) آپ نے فرمایا :’’ ‘ تب ہی تو غیبت ہے ۔ اگر تم کوئی ایسی بات کہو جو اس میں نہ ہو ‘ تو تم نے اس پر بہتان لگایا ۔‘‘
