In this short film, shot on location in the spring of 2021, Dej, a teenager goes through the grief of losing her Brother during the pandemic. With the new rules and regulations in place, Dej’s brother wasn’t given a traditional three day Hmong funeral. Uncertain if her Brother’s spirit will be able to pass over, Dej seeks for answers through memories and self reflection. Starring:

It's been one year since we filmed "The Wind Always Strikes the Highest Mountain." Forever grateful for the entire cast and crew of this film.

Last year, "The Wind Always Strikes the Highest Mountain" was chosen and funded as one of many amazing projects for Northern Spark 2021. Well, it's happening again for 2022!

“The Wind Always Strikes the Highest Mountain” was one of six films shown at “Hmong Films for a Social Cause” on September 10. All proceeds went to “Project Tshav Ntuj” to support their mission of aiding the Hmong Community in Mental Health and Su***de Awareness.

First and foremost, I want to thank the amazing cast/crew/musicians who were a part of this project. I want to also thank Northern Lights.MN / Northern Spark for believing in this short film. We are officially three weeks away from the release of "The Wind Always Strikes the Highest Mountain." We will be premiering through Northern Spark on June 24th, 25th and 26th (the festival starts June 12 with a lot of other amazing projects).

There's the people in front of the camera, the ones behind the camera and then there's the ones behind the music! Meet Alicia Thao, Shawn Mouacheupao and Joy Yang.
The writing process of this film was manifested through a lot of tears and a lot music. It only made sense that "The Wind Always Strikes the Highest Mountain" had an original song of its own.
"The best part about directing this film was watching Shina Xiong and Keivin Vang embrace and embody their characters."

We wrapped on Mom (Phasoua) + Dad (Wa) yesterday. One more scene today with Dej (Shina) + Skye (Keivin) and then we wrap on production.
This is by far one of my favorite pretend Family to work with. The chemistry and the care for one another was so genuine.
