BY LIZ THOMSON | In just a few days’ time, The Village Trip 2024 will open on West Fourth Street. The kickoff will be a block party celebrating the fabled history of “New York’s Left Bank” and the unique and storied institution that is the Music Inn, a gathering place for more than half a century for the likes of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, George Harrison and many others who are part of the history of our times....

BY LINCOLN ANDERSON | Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa says destroying the Elizabeth Street Garden would be a crime. In stark contrast to Mayor Adams, the crime-fighting Guardian Angels founder said the embattled Little Italy green oasis is a beautiful, natural and unique refuge that deserves to be saved. Dating back to Mayor Bloomberg's tenure, though, City Hill has been set on building a new affordable housing development, Haven Green, on the beloved spot....

BY CONNIE MURRAY | Dear Mayor Adams, have we, as a city, the greatest city in this world, really come to this moment? Is New York City actually about to destroy a rare and cherished green urban space in Downtown Manhattan? And for expiration-dated, “affordable” housing? As of this writing, more than 824,000 people have already penned letters to you…...

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | Part of East River Park that was bulldozed for the East Side Coastal Resiliency project — two ball fields at Delancey Street — was quietly reopened over Labor Day weekend. A spiffy new suspension bridge over the F.D.R. Driveway there was also opened. A formal opening event for this completed work will be held Tues., Sept....

The City of Yes. … eh, yeah, sure, it sounds positive. But you can’t judge a sweeping, citywide development program just on a catchy name. Specifically, the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity, COYHO for short, is Mayor Adams’s complex zoning reform proposal. One of its chief goals is “building a little more housing in every neighborhood.” In a sort of carrot, it’s hoped some of this housing will be affordable....

According to news reports, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump arrived at N.Y.U.'s Stern School of Business for his first day of classes on Wednesday. Photos showed the 6-foot-7-inch Barron being accompanied around the Greenwich Village campus by what appeared to be private security....

BY CHRIS RYAN | Workers recently dismantled Eleven B pizza restaurant’s outdoor dining setup in the East Village. Owner Vincent Sgarlato got a bit of leeway on the Department of Transportation's removal deadline, dodging a $500 fine, so he could bring in his “usual guys.” But, he said, “It had to go now.” Other crews were “price gouging,” he noted....

BY LINCOLN ANDERSON | The Adams administration has given the Elizabeth Street Garden until Wed., Sept. 11, to vacate its city-owned lot in Little Italy. From the sound of it, though, the garden won’t be leaving right away then — or hopefully ever, if the gardeners have their way. Joseph Reiver, the green oasis’s executive director, said while they expect to receive a notice telling them to clear out, it’s part of a process....

BY LINCOLN ANDERSON | Three Democratic candidates vying for City Council District 2 all recently touted their fundraising prowess. In what’s shaping up to be a competitive race — at least in terms of fundraising so far — Harvey Epstein, Andrea Gordillo and Sarah Batchu all reported securing around $200,000, most of it public matching funds. However, a closer look at their contributor lists is telling, showing veteran politician Epstein with much more in-district support....

BY THE VILLAGE SUN | If he's caught, will a judge throw the book at this guy? Police said that on Mon., Aug. 19, around 9:33 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was walking past 24 W. 25th Street, just west of Madison Square Park, when a shirtless man approached her. For reasons not immediately clear, the stranger hit the young woman in the face with a book, causing pain, bruising and swelling to her nose, then fled on foot, heading eastbound on 25th Street....
