Yesterday we took food and supplies for women and babies over the border. It was taken further into Ukraine by two pastors who are feeding and caring for people near to their churches there.

The children here were targeted with gunfire but escaped from their underground shelter.

A brave grandmother, two daughters and ten grandchildren were trapped in an underground shelter in Eastern Ukraine as Russian forces bombarded their town. After many days enduring gunfire and the sounds of artillery, they knew they must make their escape.
The exit roads had been under fire too, so no route out of the city was safe to travel. As they tried to board their escape bus soldiers began to fire at the children and the bus. The grandmother told them all to pray if they were going to make it out alive, so of course they all prayed earnestly.

Our team met them at the safety of this Polish train station, stinking after so many days underground, but thankful for their lives.

One of our team, Johann is from Finland. They were helped to go together to Finland where they were welcomed and able to remain together as a family.

Thousands of people continue to flee Ukraine every day. Yesterday the train station at Przemsyl was busy all day. Some get to the border tired and hungry after many days travel. A plethora of nations are there to help people, feeding the hungry, tending the injured, encouraging the downcast, watching over the vulnerable, funding financial needs, or transporting people to a safe place. Thank you to all of you who play your part in this demonstration of solidarity.

I met several ladies today who were travelling back into Ukraine, braving the very real dangers of travel in a war zone.
Some were going back to be with injured husbands, taking their children, women with no better options, caught with impossible choices. Some were going to help relatives to get to safety, risking themselves for others.
This is Lesija who lives in London with her husband. She was travelling to Lviv today to help various relatives (and her family cat) to make it out of this dangerous situation.
Whatever difficult situations you are facing or decisions you have to make, remember, there is always a solution, even if it is one which requires bravery and risk.

This is Natasha, who rescued a girl this weekend from trafficking, and this is how it happened:

Natasha lives in Germany, in the south west, and she came to the Poland/Ukraine border after she had a vision from God and knew that she had a specific job to do here which she could not do back home helping the refugees there in Germany.

Natasha was on the Ukraine side of the border caring for the scared yet relieved people arriving sometimes hungry, often after days of nerve wracking travel across Ukraine. Some people approached her, shouting her name. There were two girls there who only spoke German. One was just thirteen years old. How did they come to be in a war zone? The young girl had been taken on a trip over into Poland to visit a market, but had been drugged and abducted, and hidden in a box as she was smuggled over the width of Poland and across into Ukraine. The girls had managed to escape in Lviv, but spoke no Ukrainian and had no documents, so were unable to explain their plight. They were taken with so many others fleeing their own horrors, of war, loss, and fear, and ended up at the border.

Natasha was the only one there who could understand them as they told their story. She was able to contact authorities directly in Germany who confirmed the girl had been reported missing and arrange for her to be returned to her mother.

Sometimes we don’t know what great things our simple actions of care will achieve. Keep your hearts open and full of love, and who knows where it will lead.

Today I had the privilege of helping to make 2000 burgers. A group of guys from Erfurt in Germany who have a company vacuum packing meat decided to come here to the Ukraine/Polish border. Local companies donated bread buns, and the other fillings, plus barbecues and they drove here with a refrigerated trailer. For three days they will make food for people and then return home. Other ordinary people, like me, came and helped, people from Holland, France, the UK and USA. You don’t need special skills to help people, just the willingness. You could come here or you can make a difference wherever you are.

Each day I am here I will share what’s happening with the people coming into Poland from Ukraine and let you know about one of the relief efforts
