✨Save For Later ✨ With the last three months of 2023 rapidly approaching, now is a great time to focus in on forming the habits necessary to help us achieve our year end goals. 📈
Here are 3 tips from habits expert James Clear to help us achieve the goals we set, but also continue to show up for them.
1. Ruthlessly eliminate your goals. Seriously. Some of us (🙋🏻♀️) have a tendency to try and fix everything all at once. We do the most because we think that will lead to exponential improvement. Unfortunately, the science does not back this up. Learn to hone focus on a few of the goals that are most important to you and make small but consistent improvements. It may take a bit more patience, but will produce consistent growth over a longer period of time.
2. Stack your goals. 🥞 I LOVE this one. Research shows that people who clearly define when, where, and how they will execute their new habit are more likely to keep it. For example, “I am going to mediate 5 min every morning” becomes “I will mediate 5 min every morning, on my patio, while listening to positive affirmations.” Now take that and add it to something you already do daily without having to think about it (definition of a habit) and use that as a trigger to do the new thing you want to do without thinking, you will be more likely to remember to do it. Now your habit becomes “I will meditate for 5 min every morning after I start the coffee pot, on my patio, while listening to positive affirmations.”
3. Set an upper bound. Consistency is key when forming a new habit especially in the beginning. More important than doing the most is actually showing up. If your goal is to bench press 200 lbs 🏋️♀️ but you struggle to find the motivation to actually go to the gym, trying to reach that goal too quickly can cause burn out or in this case even injury. Setting an upper bound can help you sustain your progress while encouraging you to continue showing up.
