8 beauty tips every woman must know

Women love beauty tips and are always on the lookout for get-gorgeous tricks that will make your hair shinier and skin flawless. We have the round up of some of the best beauty tricks every woman must know.

1) Use green tea for beauty

Besides being a miraculous detox drink, green tea can be miraculous for your skin too. Green tea bags help in reducing swelling and stiffening the skin. When placed over closed eyes, the cooled tea bags can act wonders in getting rid of those disappointing dark circles. Try it and you will know.

2) Sweet almond oil to remove lipstick

A long lasting lipstick is a bliss for a long working day, but the simple idea of removing it, hassles us. Take this simple tip for getting rid of it by simply drizzling some sweet almond oil over a cotton ball and dabbing it over your lips. Super cheap when compared to those expensive make up removers, this tip is a win-win for sure.

3) Buy non-condogenic products

There are a lot of things associated with teenage, which makes us nostalgic, acne is certainly not amongst that. Those tiny spots on your face are very disappointing and demoralizes you. Hiding and concealing them by makeup is the only recourse left. This temporary coping strategy can be disastrous in the long run. While buying makeup, especially when you have an oily skin, make sure you use a product which is non-condogenic. Non-condogenic products are less likely to irritate the skin or clog your pores. These products won’t cause blocked pores and prevent you from those irritating acne.

4) Vaseline for better eyebrow shaping

Eyebrows can sometimes behave awkwardly. You can tame your unruly eyebrows by just applying some Vaseline over it and then using your eyebrow brush for further shaping. And you are done!

5) Coconut hair massage before washing

Hair is one of the most appealing and at the same time experimented parts of a woman’s body. Curls, straightening and hair colour, our hair handles it all. With all that damage we cause them, nourishment of your hair becomes of paramount importance. A gentle massage with some coconut oil ten minutes prior to shampooing can add wonders to your hair. Make your hair enviable and lustrous by this simple effort.

6) Conduct patch test for hair colour

Hair colour contains a chemical substance called Paraphenylenediamine, which can cause allergy to some. For preventing yourself from that unnecessary reaction, it's advised to conduct a patch test. Apply a patch of colour behind your ear and leave it for 24 hours to check if your skin is allergic to that product. Afterall, prevention is better than cure.

7) Don't cut cuticles

While manicuring your hands, don’t ever cut those thin slivers called cuticles. Why? Those cuticles act as a seal of protection and if cut, it’ll leave you unfortified to bacteria or even infection. To prevent yourself from infection, push back your cuticles after taking bath, apply lotion and you are done.

8) Cleanse with cold water

Having a flawless skin is something every girl aspires for. For achieving that, hydrating your body from the inside out is indispensible. Cleanse your face at least twice every day with cold water. Avoid warn water as it opens the pores allowing dirt to enter into them. And don’t forget to drink at least eight glasses of water for keeping your skin smooth and radiant.

Last but not the least, always carry that curve called smile down your nose. Afterall, it’s the best make up a girl can wear.

How to prepare delicious Nigerian Efo Riro

You know that situation where the efo sits on one side of the bowl and the water migrates to the other side? that isn’t efo riro, If efo riro is made right, you shouldn’t have that situation. I cook watery efo every now and again; I crave the saucy stuff especially for rice. This is my authentic efo recipe. The unique taste of efo riro comes from the use of Locust beans, Bleaching of palm oil and the absence of tomatoes.

Ingredients:

Part A
4 Red bell peppers (Tatashe)
1 medium onion bulb
2-3 Scotch Bonnet (Ata Rodo)

Preparation: Chop all listed ingredients. Combine in a blender and pulse to a rough coarse consistency. Pour mixture into a strainer and rest to remove excess fluid.

Part B
1 cup of palm oil
1 medium onion bulb (thinly sliced)
2 Tablespoon blended crayfish
½ cup red prawns (head removed)
2 cups shredded fish (smoked Catfish preferably) Washed and de-boned
Parboiled meat (Goat meat or beef and/or Ponmon ) 6-8 pieces
2 tablespoons whole locust beans (Iru)
Salt- to taste
2-3cube maggi

Part C
15 Cups chopped fresh spinach (Efo tete) ~3 bunches OR 3 packs chopped frozen spinach (9oz packs) – Defrosted

Preparation: If using fresh spinach, place the spinach in a bowl, add ½ teaspoon of salt, cover with boiling water and place a lid over the bowl. Allow to rest for 15-20mins. Rinse out the spinach and squeeze out all excess water.

Directions:

Place a large pot over medium heat, add in the palm oil. Heat oil until a little smoky.

Add in the sliced onions and fry until lightly browned

Add in the end result of part A and the left over ingredients in part B. Cover and leave to simmer for 20-25 minutes (The palm oil will float to the top when the sauce is ready).

Add in the spinach, combine. Taste and adjust for seasoning, leave to simmer for another 3- 5 more minutes.

How to prepare a perfect Nigerian coconut rice
https://www.entcrunch.com/2020/04/how-to-prepare-coconut-rice.html

Ingredients

3 cups rice (long grain or basmati rice)
1 tbspn Coconut oil
One 400ml can coconut milk (preferably Thai premium) .
1.5 cups water
1 medium onion
2-3 medium tomatoes
Spices: 2 bay leaves
1 tspn white pepper
1 tspn minced chili
4 sprigs fresh thyme (or 1 tspn dried)
salt – to taste
2 heaped tbspns crayfish powder
1-2 stock cubes.

Direction

Finely chop onion – set aside cut tomatoes into large chunks – set aside.
Mince chili pepper – set aside .

Place a wide cooking pot on medium heat. Add in 1 tbsp of coconut oil (sub vegetable oil). Add in onion. Cook until translucent and fragrant.

Add in tomato, minced pepper and spices. Stir. Cover and leave to simmer on low-medium heat for 10 minutes .

Add in coconut milk and one and a half (1.5) cups of water into the tomato mix. Stir. Cover and bring to a rolling boil. Stir. Taste and adjust for seasoning.

Add in washed rice. Stir. Reduce heat to low-medium (4 on a marked cooker) .

Place a sheet of foil over the pot. Place the lid over it and properly seal the edges with foil (this is a very important step).

Set a timer for 30 minutes and let it go! You have done all you can 😂, let Jesus take the wheel hen. Leave it alone! Don’t open the pot until time is up

By covering the pot with foil & then a lid, you are able to get away with using less liquid. The rice grains are gently steamed & infused instead of being boiled. End result is perfectly separate & delicious grains.

Serve coconut rice with Peppered meat or chicken

How to bake Nigeria plain cake

Ingredients
Flour -1500g
1000 g Margarine-
800 g Sugar -
Eggs- 1 1/2 crates
5 tbsp Baking powder-
3 tbsp Powdered preservative-
4 tbsp Powdered milk flavour-
Vanilla essence -1tbsp
2 tbsp Exotic flavour-
2 tbsp Condensed milk

Remember, you can either double or divide this recipe

Steps
Cream unsalted butter and sugar together using a wooden spatula and a mixing bowl. While creaming, move spatula in a particular direction. If you are creaming in a clockwise direction, use that till you are done creaming. Do not change to an anticlockwise direction. Cream till the sugar crystals are melted and the batter I creamy enough to drop from the spatula

Next, whisk egg using an egg whisk or an electric whisk. Whisk till it becomes very fluffy. This is done to incorporate air bubbles that enables the cake to rise during the baking process. See image below,

Sieve flour in a separate bowl. Do not assume there are no impurities in your flour as an excuse to avoid sieving the flour.

Now, pour the whisked egg into the creamed butter and. Add the vanilla essence, exotic flavor and condensed milk flavor into the mixture.

Turn your attention now to the sieved flour. Add baking powder, powdered preserve and the milk flavour. Cream the baking pan with margarine and flour. Set aside.

Gently fold the flour into the batter till you get a desired consistency. Pour the batter into the creamed pan. Preheat the oven for 5mins.

Bake for 1hr at least before opening the oven. This is to prevent air flow into the oven which stops the cake from rising very well. So allow to bake for 1hr at least before checking on the 🍰 cake.Of course the baking time of the cake depends on the size of the cake.

Enjoy your your delicious cake

How to prepare the delicious Nigerian Fried rice
https://www.entcrunch.com/2020/04/how-to-prepare-delicious-nigerian-fried.html?m=1

Complete Ingredients for Fried Rice
Serving: 8 Persons
4 cups of rice.
5 cups of sliced Cabbage.
2 cups of sliced Carrot.
2 cups of sliced Green beans.
Half cup of peas.
1 cup of sliced Green pepper.
Cow Liver {300g}.
2kg of Chicken.
Vegetable oil.{200ml}
1 cup of sliced Onions.
Curry powder (coloring spice) {2 Tablespoons}.
Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation
Most Nigerian foods start with you parboiling the meat to be used, Most Naija foods including fried rice goes along with fried or cooked meat. The most popular meat in Nigeria is chicken.
So we are making fried rice and chicken.

Step 1
Parboil chicken and liver (both together) with all the spices (a teaspoon of salt, half cup of sliced onions, a teaspoon of thyme spice, a teaspoon of curry, two seasoning cubes teaspoon each of powdered ginger and garlic).

Allow the meat to cook for ten to fifteen minutes, taste for salt, then pick out and deep fry. Be sure to reserve the stock (meat water)

Step 2
Chop the cabbage, green beans, carrot, liver and set aside in a wide tray as you can find in the video below or the image above.

This process is easy, I normally use just a knife and chopping board or a tray.

The sample image below shows you some of the ingredients in small quantities.

Chopped cow liver(1), chicken stock (meat water)(2), green peas(3) Chopped cabbage(4) chopped carrot(5), green beans(6), and sweet corn (7).

Remove the white center seeds from the green pepper and also slice and set aside.

Step 3
Parboil the 4 cups of rice also and cook with half of the meat stock (water from the meat) and two cups of water, cook until it is about 70% done.

You have to observe the rice closely. It doesn’t need to be too soft or too hard, just almost done.

How to Cook Fried rice Step By Step

Step 1
Set your cooking pot on heat, allow to dry, then pour in about 200ml of vegetable oil.
Note: It is better to continue with the same oil you used while frying the meat (that is only if you fried the meats), you can reduce it to 200ml.

Step 2
Allow heating then add the sliced onions stir for 1-2 minutes.

Step 3
Then add the chopped carrot and green beans, any of these two can actually go first.

Add the chopped liver and sweet corn, stir.
Meat stock (water from the meat) should follow, add ground pepper (optional), add a teaspoon of salt and, add 1 seasoning cube then stir and taste, you may add more salt.

Add the green peas.

Stir for 1-2 minutes then add cabbage and the curry powder (Curry is a yellowish spice that actually adds the yellowish color to fried rice, add and stir till you are satisfied with the color.)

You would have a yellowish mixture that would often taste overly spiced, don’t worry the rice would balance the taste.

If you are satisfied with the taste then add the green pepper, stir.

Step 4
Add the almost-done white rice.

Stir all together, cover your pot and allow to simmer for 5-7 minutes.

That is how to make fried rice.

Step 5
Serve with the fried or fried meat (chicken), I fried my chicken as you can see above.

You can also grill the chicken.

I think grilled chicken is way better than fried chicken, for one, you will be avoiding the oil and accompanying cholesterol

How to prepare the delicious Nigerian Jollof rice (with photos)

Ingredients for Jollof Rice

4 cups of rice
1kg beef
1000ml of Ground Fresh tomatoes.
50ml Ground Fresh peppers
1 Teaspoon Curry powder
1 teaspoon Thyme
1 teaspoon Nutmeg powder
3 seasoning cubes
2 cups of sliced onions
300ml vegetable or groundnut oil
salt to taste.
2 cloves of garlic
2 fingers of ginger

Fresh Tomatoes for jollof

These are some fresh ripe tomatoes and pepper (scotch bonnet). I think any species of tomato would serve the same purpose, just wash, squeeze out water inside the tomatoes, blend as is and set aside.

You need around 1000ml for 4 cups of rice.

Alternatively, you could use canned tomatoes or a combination of both canned and fresh (ground tomatoes)

Step by Step Preparation

Step 1
Parboil the beef (or any meat of your choice) with the spices listed above. I like to use lots of them so as to end up with very tasty beef. And then prepare the main food with the meat stock (meat water).

Step 2
Add water so that more than half of the entire beef is submerged, then add 2 seasoning cubes, a teaspoon of beef seasoning spice, 1 cup of sliced onions, one teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon each of curry/thyme.

Peel of the outer back of the ginger/garlic, pound or grind.

Step 3
Parboil rice the normal way, boil about 7 cups of water in a pot, add the four cups of rice and allow to boil for 3 minutes. Then pour out and wash thoroughly with clean water then set aside in a bowl or plastic sieve.

Step 4
Pick out the parboiled tasty beef and deep fry, this wouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.

Cooked beef on the left side and the stock on the right side. This beef stock is very important in Nigerian cooking.

beef stock
Once you are done with frying the beef, reduce the oil to 250ml (1 cup) just add the remaining one cup of sliced onions, stir for 1-2 minutes and add the ground tomatoes. I like to commence cooking jollof rice with the same oil I used while frying the meat.

Using a fresh oil is just the same as cooking without the beef stock (meat water) which actually holds over 70 percent of the ingredient that is used in making most Nigerian foods, the end result is not the same.

How to Make Nigerian Jollof Rice.
Step 5
Frying the tomatoes would take about 20 minutes.

Fry until when you lift a portion with your frying spoon you will notice the oil continues to boil in the spoon.

You also notice the tomatoes turning dark.

tomato frying

Step 6
Once the tomato is well fried, remove half and set aside. add the meat water to the remaining fried tomato in the pot, the ground ginger/garlic, a teaspoon each of curry and thyme, two teaspoons of salt then add 3 cups of water.

750ml (Please use the recommended cups), add another seasoning cube. Stir and taste, it should taste overly spiced. Don’t worry, once the rice is added the taste would balance.

Step 7
Then add the rice and cover to cook.

rice cooking

Add the fried tomatoes you initially removed, (I do this so my rice doesn’t start burning before it is properly cooked.

cooking jollof rice

Then just cook till the rice is soft for consumption, Remember that you can add water occasionally.

pot of jollof rice

Voila!!!

Turn and serve with the fried meat.

Indigenous Nigerian Wedding Attires And Bridal Looks
https://www.entcrunch.com/2020/04/indigenous-nigerian-wedding-attires-and.html?m=1

Whoever said Nigeria is the happiest country in the world was not far from the truth. In Nigeria, there is absolutely a reason to be merry. One of such is Marriage. Wedding in Nigeria is one of the most ceremonious occasions everybody looks forward to. Unlike what we have in the west where marriages are not a big deal and can happen at any time, anywhere or with anybody, for Nigerians, it takes a whole lot to plan and prepare for either one’s traditional marriage or what we call “the white wedding”. In all, the wedding dress is the most paramount issue of all the preparations. I guess it will be right to say that in Nigeria, there is no wedding without a ‘proper ghen ghen’ wedding dress. To prove this point is the fact that wedding dresses are what most Nigerian ladies look out for in any wedding. Well, like earlier said, Nigerian weddings come in two major ways – the traditional wedding and the white wedding and for each, different wedding dresses are worn. Here are some of the indigenous wedding dresses worn in Nigerian Weddings.

The Yoruba Wedding Attire

The Yoruba traditional marriage ceremony even though a serious affair, is full of rich contemporary Nigerian music, graceful colours, sumptuous meals and above all somewhat funny banter. The dress of both the bride and the groom is selected with the utmost care. A*o-Oke is the Yoruba cultural attire that cannot be missing in couple’s ensemble. Other fabrics such as cotton, damask, lace or even wax fabric (Ankara) can be worn on such occasions too but mostly in combination with the A*o-Oke.

The bride has a five-piece outfit made of the same colour and fabrics as the groom’s. The lady wears a wide, long-sleeved blouse known as the Buba made mostly from a lace material, a wrap-around garment to be worn at the waist known as the Iro made of her prefered selected A*o-oke, a shawl or shoulder sash called the Ipele or Iborun made from the same A*o-oke as the Iro which she must drape over one shoulder as tradition demands of a bride, Gele – a scarf and finally a veil of very sheer and light material with which she will be covered until its time to unveil the bride and lets not forget matching shoes, a clutch and the glamorous feferiti

This is how the bride should Look when she first comes out. This is mostly her first look out of the many that will follow.

After her first look with which she is unveiled and greets the in-laws, the bride would then change into another dress which may or may not be the same with that of her husband, depending on how many changes of clothes she has planned. The minimum for most people is two.

Other parts of her outfit include a Necklace which can be either beads or gold chain and earrings. The colours she chooses reflect the colour theme her family has chosen which also complements the groom’s outfit. The groom, on the other hand, will have a complete four-piece outfit of Yoruba wedding attires consisting of the Agbada (a two-layered material of heavy dimensions), Sokoto (loose-fitting trousers), Buba (a short loose top) and Fula (the cap).

The Igbo Wedding Attire

The Igbo traditional wedding ceremony is usually placed higher than any contemporary weddings like church or registry weddings. In fact, it is the most important marriage rites any Igbo couple should perform. Usually, the bride and groom choose to wear the same fabric (though this is not compulsory) which is usually combined with heavy embroidery, beads and bangles.

For the bride’s first outing where she greets her in-laws and welcomes them with a dance, she is required to do the Ada Igbo dressing which signifies that she is yet to be married. She can choose to wear either a Nigerian wax fabric tank top, matching skirt, bold wrist bangle, large necklaces, waist beads (jigida), leg beads and an elegant bead crown on her hair. Alternatively, she can wear a blouse and wrappers accompanied with similar adornments around the neck, waist, ankles and wrists.

The body is adorned with white clay, waist beads (jigida), bangles, feet and wrist chains, gold, coral beads, earrings, necklace, wristlets. She can also wear brass leg rings with the toes painted in traditional hues depending on the colour scheme, and her hair braided or woven with a beaded crown beautifying the head. The groom’s outfit can be made from brocade material, top quality lace or a fabric called jacquard or silk, it should complement the fabric chosen by his bride, and the groom usually puts on a large shirt which could be sown having elaborate embroidery and animal symbolism. Some brides do the wine giving in a separate attire before changing into the colour the groom is wearing.

The Hausa Wedding Attire

Hausa people are known for rich their cultures and traditions especially in the way they conduct their weddings and dress their brides. Aside from the fabrics, they are known to adorn their brides with beautiful traditional tattoos using what is called Lalli. Her art is done mostly on the hands and feet. The bride who is the centre of attraction for the special occasion is also not complete until her hands and legs are painted in flowery designs with locally made darkening liquid fluid known as Henna.

Looking at the attire for the day, the bride ties a wrapper called Abiah made with a colourful cloth in addition to a matching blouse and shawl. She is also allowed to sew any other style she desires so long as it does not expose her body parts. On the other hand, the Groom wears a large flowing gown known as Babban Riga and a robe called a Jalabiya and Juanni. Some men also wear colourful embroidered caps known as Fullah. For the Hausa Bride and Groom, modesty is the watchword.

Wedding Attire in Edo

Edo State of South South Nigeria has from time immemorial been a home to many ethnic groups, including Bini, Akoko-Edo and Esan. The Edo wedding attire is largely known to be one decorated with lots of beads. The Edo wedding attire worn by brides during their traditional wedding ceremony is so rich and regal. They look like true African queens in their beaded coral attires. The brides have their hair made into a unique hairstyle known as Eto-Okuku. Coral beads are then sewn into the hair or extensions in the form of a crown, called Okuku. Many brides buy wigs ready-made with the hair and crown.

They also tie beautiful wrappers made from a variety of fabrics including velvet, lace and George. Over the wrapper tied at their waist, some Edo brides wear the Ewu-ivie, a beaded cape or blouse. They also put on their necks with coral beads known as Ivie-uru and wear the Ivie-obo on their hands. To complete the regal traditional Edo wedding look, brides wear beaded earring. The man had a loin cloth for ordinary wear and three pieces sewn together known as igbu or male coverlet. This would give a total of four pieces on the minimum of loin cloth needed by every male.

Effik Wedding Attire

One thing you will love to know about the Efik traditional attire is its distinct cultural mix. It’s quite easy to mistake an Igbo bride for an Edo bride, but when you see an Efik bride and groom, you know without a doubt. The bride wears a fancy attire known as Ofong Ukod Anwang which includes a blouse (covering only the bust) a knee-length skirt, and fancy beaded body adornment or a long flowing gown called the Onyonyo. There is also the hair pins and a decorated staff which is carried by the bride. She also wears her hand and leg gears know as Ekpa ku kwa, with her neck adorned with coral beads. The groom wears white or sometimes gold color shirts with colorful wrappers known as the Usobo. Added to this is a beaded jacket, beaded shoes and a top hat with a long piece of cloth (Okpomkpomon) which they hang around their necks.

The Ijaw/ Kalabari Wedding

The Ijaw, Kalabari bridal attire is simply breathtaking! They love to wear coral accessories, the crown and chunky coral beads. The dressing of an Ijaw man will not be complete without the bowler now better known as ‘resource control’ a hat and a walking stick. Both men and women like to complement their very rich tunics and expressive feather hats with expensive coral beads and gold.

We have several other traditions and marriage attires but I think these are the most worn in Nigerian marriages. Marriages they say are made in Heaven but celebrated here on earth. In Nigeria, marriages are sacred and should be celebrated in a more sacred manner which is the traditional way. This does not in any way negate the efficacy of the white wedding. So why not try some of these attires for your wedding?
