🇮🇳📰 In her latest piece, journalist and Migrant Women Press managing editor Nikita Jain sheds light on the escalating gender-based violence in India, where justice continues to be denied to women—particularly those from oppressed communities.

After covering these stories for over eight years, Nikita says, "There’s no time to process. "We jump from one story to another.

⚖️ Violence against women in India is not new. Brutal cases of r**e, sexual harassment, and domestic violence have persisted for years. Yet, while some incidents, like the recent r**e and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in West Bengal, make headlines, countless others remain in the shadows, especially those involving women from marginalized communities.

📢 Despite mass protests and calls for justice, the media often overlooks the violence faced by Muslim women and other minorities. These crimes, both online and offline, are a reality that far too many women endure in silence. Nikita reminds us of the disturbing truth: "No matter our age, caste, or religion, women in India grow up knowing we can’t walk freely without fear."

🇱🇧🚨 The Israel attack has killed over 1000 people since September 23rd in Lebanon, and 1 million might be displaced.

Amidst this devastation, migrant and domestic workers, already marginalised by the Kafala system and systemic racism, face even greater danger.

REMAN, a group of African migrants in Lebanon, is stepping up to provide critical support to migrant women and their families in the face of this crisis. They are organising an emergency response to help those displaced by the bombing with basic necessities.

We are calling for your support to enable REMAN (Réseau des Migrant-e-s d'Afrique Noire) to continue their vital work, ensuring women and their families can access:

🚐 Transport to safe locations
🍲 Food, water, and a community kitchen for daily meals
💊 Medication and healthcare
🧴 Hygiene items
🛏️ Essential shelter needs like mattresses

REMAN has been creating community spaces for migrant women since 2021. Now, with the rapid escalation of this crisis, they’re refocusing on emergency relief. Migrants have already been turned away from shelters, and some left behind by their host families during evacuations.

💡 This fundraiser is coordinated by Bénédicte, a French-Lebanese woman in the UK, alongside a Cameroonian woman and one of REMAN's founders.

🤲 100% of your donations will directly support REMAN’s efforts to help migrant workers in Lebanon. Your solidarity is crucial in this time of need. Please donate and share. 🙏

🩸 Menstrual health is a right, not a privilege! 🩸

"Three years ago, when my daughters started school in Barcelona, I joined the school council. With my passion for equality, I put on my purple glasses and was shocked to see the lack of progress in menstrual health. Many thought the old taboos were gone, but schools in Catalonia still don’t have the resources or infrastructure to support safe and dignified menstruation."

This situation led Sandra Ruiz Moriana to dig deeper—uncovering the urgent need for change.

Migrant Women Press is launching a special project for the International 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, collaborating with organisations dedicated to ending gender-based violence and supporting migrant and ethnically diverse women.

We’re commissioning 16 powerful stories to be published daily during the campaign (Nov 25 - Dec 10).

These pieces will explore how class, race, nationality, disability, immigration status and others aspects of identity increase women and girls vulnerability to gender-based violence.

At the intersection of gendered and racialised violence, Black women endure brutality and see their lives devalued, with these stories often going underreported.

"We should then ask ourselves why Black women and girls fall into the category of most vulnerable amongst all women to governmental violence but simultaneously the least advocated for," questions Jamila Pereira in her investigation into the case of Cláudia Simões, a working-class Black woman from Angola and a mother, brutally assaulted by the police in Portugal.

Welcome to Migrant Women Press!

We are an independent non-profit journalism organization created to address the lack of media coverage of women’s experiences with migration. Journalism with gender, race and migration perspectives.

There are in the world around 258 million people residing in a country other than their country of birth. Of these, 48.8% are women (IOM Global Migration Trends)

During migration, all migrants are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse but female migrants face major risks including sexual exploitation, trafficking and violence. Women face the intersections of discrimination for being women, migrant and in the majority of cases for being non-white and poor.

On the other hand, migrant women generate opportunities and new possibilities. The positive impact many women are creating in in the countries they moved in benefit all the society.
