Minister Mthethwa wishes Banyana Banyana well on their participation in the 14th Edition of The Africa Women Cup of Nations

Banyana Banyana, South African. Senior National Women’s’ Football team are the country most successful National football team in recent times.

We have celebrated with pride their various achievements: as COSAFA champions, their participation in 2 Olympic Games in London 2012 and Rio 2016, their participation in the FIFA Women’s’ World Cup in 2019 and their recognition and accolades as a team, a player, and a coach at the CAF awards in 2018.

It is time for our team to bring home the continental Cup as they embark on this journey to represent South Africa at the Africa Women’s’ Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco from 2 -22 July 2022. This is their 12th showing at this prestigious event and the team assembled is a mix of experienced players some of whom ply their trade abroad and young players.

As our athletes perform well on the playing field it is important to recognise good performance and SAFA needs to be applauded for committing to incentives for the team.

“Indeed, the investment in the Women’s’ League has created opportunities for players to hone their talent, participate in international tournaments and provide access to professional clubs around the world. We want to express our gratitude to all the players and coaches for their dedication, diligence, and consistency throughout the league. We are so proud of you and wish you well as you take on Nigeria, Burundi, and Botswana in the first round. We are confident that you will proceed further in the tournament. Remember a passionate football loving nation will be watching and supporting you back home. We are confident that you will give of your best in this tournament and take your most deserved place in the FIFA World Cup in 2023” said Minister Nathi Mthethwa

Today Russia commemorates national holiday - Russia Day.

On June 12, 1990, the First Congress of People’s Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, which proclaimed the equality of political parties and public associations, approved the principle of the separation of powers, and determined the supremacy of the RSFSR’s Constitution and laws on its entire territory.

On December 25, 1991, the RSFSR Law On Changing the Name of the State of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was approved and came into force, establishing the country’s new name, the Russian Federation (Russia).

The Declaration of State Sovereignty signified the beginning of a new stage in the Russian state’s history. Since 2002, this holiday has been officially called Russia Day. On June 12, this country and its civil society, aware of its common responsibility for the present and future of our homeland, celebrate the national unity of all peoples of Russia.
