Danzō Shimura was an elder of Konohagakure. As the founder and leader of Root, Danzō gained notoriety as The Darkness of the Shinobi because of his frequent unsanctioned actions and his often-suspected (but rarely proven) undermining of specific Konoha personnel. Despite his decades of suspicious deeds, Danzō only ever acted in what he believed were the village's best interests. He was appointed the Sixth Hokage Candidate after Pain's assault on the village. Prior to being inaugurated officially into this post, Danzō would flee the Five Kage Summit and died in battle against Sasuke Uchiha at the Samurai Bridge.

One of the most notable abilities an Avatar possesses is their ability to enter something called 'the Avatar State', to summon enormous cosmic power and the wisdom and skills of all previous Avatars. Whenever Aang does this throughout the series, his eyes glow, but so do his tattoos. The question is: why? Why do his tattoos glow, when he was very clearly born without them, and only acquired them later in life? Is this just something the animators decided to do for the sake of aesthetics, or is there an actual reason for it? To find out, we will have to take a dive into the history of Air Nomad tattoos, why they have them, and what they represent, and ultimately answer why they glow. Welcome to The Amagi. In today's video, we're going to start a new series, where we will take deep dives into frequently asked questions.

The Equalists are an organization of radical revolutionaries, formerly led by Amon, that operate within Republic City. They oppose the use of bending, which they see as inherently oppressive and inequitable and seek to "equalize" society through its elimination using terrorist and tactical methods. Because of this, the Equalist movement was occasionally referred to as the "Anti-bending Revolution" before Amon's death. Equalist fighters are known for utilizing chi blocking as a means to counteract bending and its advantages. Adept at using long-range weapons to restrain and immobilize their enemies, the Equalists utilize a selection of tools and equipment, including smoke grenades, electrified gloves, and motorcycles. The Equalists' most valuable asset was their leader, Amon, who told his followers that the spirits had granted him the ability to remove people's bending abilities. After he was eventually exposed as a waterbender who used bloodbending to sever the connection to one's bending art, the Equalists lost much power and many supporters, but remnants of the group kept a low profile in Republic City underground, rebuilding their strength. After Harmonic Convergence, the remaining Equalists came into contact with a mysterious man named Hundun, who promised them a new world order, free from bending. The revolutionaries decided to side with him, but were eventually defeated by Avatar Korra once again.

Earthbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the geokinetic ability to manipulate earth and rock in all their various forms, prevalent in the Earth Kingdom and the United Republic. Earth is the element of substance, while the people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse, strong, and enduring. Following the lion turtles' decision to relinquish their role as protectors of mankind, Oma and Shu were the first earthbenders to learn this art from the badgermoles. The key to earthbending is utilizing neutral jing, which involves waiting and listening for the right moment to strike and, when that moment comes, acting decisively. In other words, earthbenders generally endure their enemies' attacks until the right opportunity to counterattack reveals itself.

Ba Sing Se is the capital of the Earth Kingdom as well as one of its constituent states, encompassing a large portion of the nation's northeastern corner. After the Surrender of Omashu, the city became the last great Earth Kingdom stronghold during the Hundred Year War. The city is by far the largest in the World of Avatar, essentially being more of a small country than a mere city. As a testament to its grandeur, the Earth Kingdom's roadway network is centered on the city. Ba Sing Se means "Impenetrable City"; it is so named for its world-famous walls, the gates of which have no hinges or other hardware and are opened by the use of earthbending. Within the Outer Wall lies a large expanse of farmland, Lake Laogai, and several mountains. The Inner Wall encloses the city itself. The metropolis is also notable for having a unique system of walls dividing the populace into different parts of the city based on social status. Ba Sing Se was the safest place for refugees displaced by the Hundred Year War because of the Fire Nation's failure to penetrate its walls. However, it was eventually captured by the Fire Nation in the Coup of Ba Sing Se. The city was later liberated by the Order of the White Lotus in the final battle of the War. In 171 AG, however, Ba Sing Se fell again, this time to anarchy after the Red Lotus toppled the Earth Queen. A few weeks later, the situation in the metropolis had been stabilized by Kuvira and her army, which led to her being appointed by the world leaders as the provisional head of the kingdom. Wu was later reinstated as the Earth King after the failed invasion of the United Republic of Nations and Kuvira's surrender.

Waterbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the hydrokinetic ability to control water in all of its various forms. This type of bending is used by the people of the Water Tribe, who are divided into the Southern, Northern, and lesser-known Foggy Swamp tribes, as well as those of the United Republic, each with their own unique bending style. Water is the element of change. The moon is the source of power in waterbending, and the original waterbenders learned to bend by observing how the moon pushed and pulled the tides. The Water Tribes are the only people who did not learn to bend from an animal, though the Moon and Ocean Spirits took the form of koi fish in the mortal world near the beginning of the Avatar world. The fighting style of waterbending is mostly fluid and graceful, acting in concert with the environment. Foggy Swamp style waterbending, however, is more rigid and straight. Waterbenders deal with the flow of energy; they let their defense become their offense, turning their opponents' own forces against them. Even when waterbenders do take an attack stance, their moves always appear to flow from one to the other.

The Northern Water Tribe is an independent state located within the realms of the North Pole, ruled by a hereditary monarchic chiefdom. As the oldest division of the three Water Tribes, the Northern Water Tribe dominated both the North Pole as well as the South Pole for centuries. Its capital city, Agna Qel'a, is notable for being made almost entirely out of ice. Even though much of its territory encompasses largely inhospitable tundra terrain, the Northern Water Tribe always thrived in its isolation, and grew into a major political and economical power after the Hundred Year War. Unlike its counterpart, the Southern Water Tribe, the North never succumbed to foreign invasions like the massive Siege of the North by the Fire Nation. The people of the Northern Water Tribe are traditionally conservative and very spiritual, but still open to change and reform. The Northern waterbending style is the most widespread form, practiced by waterbenders at both poles and in the United Republic of Nations, as raids on the Southern Water Tribe led to the southern style becoming nearly extinct during the Hundred Year War.

Firebending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the pyrokinetic ability to control fire. It is unique among the bending arts, as it is the only one in which the performer can generate the element. The first human firebenders lived in a city atop a lion turtle during the era of Raava and the art later spread to the Sun Warriors, the Fire Nation, and the United Republic of Nations. The Earth Kingdom also has a small firebending minority.

The Air Nomad Genocide was a mass slaughter committed by the Fire Nation that resulted in the near eradication of the Air Nomads and the fauna that lived in the air temples. The only human survivor of the initial attack and its aftermath was Avatar Aang, who was ironically the prime target. The outrage over this cultural destruction compelled the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribe to take up arms and declare war on the Fire Nation, leading to the large-scale war that continued for one hundred years.

Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly problems and concerns; finding peace and freedom was the key to solving their difficulties in life. Airbenders continually sought spiritual enlightenment, and, as a result, all children born into the Air Nomads were benders. The first airbenders learned their art from the flying bison.
